Mungo Franczak

Brace’s instagram stories this weekend were some of the most out of pocket shit I’ve ever seen in my entire life

Kelley

Tom Sexton extremely offended right now

Thomb Thumb

Wishing Terrance Ray a speedy recovery from tuberculosis.

Grace

#ludditecomradeslay

This episode couldn’t come out at a better time. Time to plug into the revolutionary mesh net and listen to the interview

Donnie Ka

Trebor

Bring me Xi or bring me death, holy fuck, that’s an opening!!

malfeasance

"Skibidi scam" gave me a stroke, I am now listening to the episode in the hospital 👍

Legal-AC-Repair

40 mins in hoping this one is unlocked to share, then remembered the first 5 mins ☠️ Anybody know a solid starter ep?

Morgan

Mr Young Chomsky can you please put braces jar jar speech over the scene of jar jar speaking to the galactic senate from episode 2

Hana

Fuck. I'm listening to this while surrounded by those exact hashtaggirl girls. Quote "Ohmygod I haven't used my new walking boots yet!" "OHMYGOD hikegirrrrl. I wanna." Chk chk.

Adrienne Graf

Omg fuck you guys I started listening to this during my morning MILF workout and I laughed so hard at Brace’s Jar Jar impression I dropped my weights

Tartinesmeloves

The NATO series still holds up, I think parts 1 and 3 are free. If its more conspiracy and less history, may be episode 1 of the Utah series (232)

danny

jesus christ the zoomer speak hurts so badly

danny

ouchy

Dakota

I think iheart is based out of Atlanta, so there’s your southern podcasters

Mike

that intro made me want to die so much that eventually it started feeling like catharsis, like I was the Shawshank Redemption guy and at the end of the intro all of those words were washed from me like sewage and I was truly reborn into a post woke world

Madeleine Peterson

maybe the interview was good but i'll never ever listen to it and probably think less of your guest subconsciously; i didn't really need 20 minutes of my time wasted regurgitating slop onto microphones

mimi

love Brace's Jamaican I mean Jar Jar accent

Sam

Bought the book. Thanks for having him on for us!

Chas Padunski

Uncritical support to Liz. The wind recently pulled the awning off my house (located in beautiful New Jersey). The wind is too damn strong.

Dom Gina

Generalized Intelligence is kind of an oxymoron, right? All intelligence is contextual. And there’s no erasing context (even if you erase people). Even in the contexts it currently operates, AI fails. Loved this convo, and the intro.

Rachel

I really want to show this episode to my mom but brace keeps saying a “dingo ate your pussy”

sauteed

Hope to hear more of the book soon, brace.

j

I am a simple man. I see a machine? I put a shoe in it.

Blank

Brace for the love of god keep the installments of your romantasy novel coming 🥹

Blank

At a very antisemitic age

Tim O'

It's windy because it's springtime. You may have become too accustomed to the dullness of California weather.

Jime Time

“Deep-fried value” ❤️

Jime Time

You’re a darsh.

Joey Fazzoli

Gonna read this book, anyone else?

Jime Time

Or I am a darsh for not recognizing this as sarcasm? 🤔

Tea for the Tillerman

Brace as a rockabilly you’ve gotta do a 🕋 to Tupelo and Clarksdale, Mississippi

Mountain Dew Or Crab Juice

The wind in Jersey has been something else recently, along with 50-60 degree swings in temperature in 24-48 hour periods. Really looking forward to the handful of tornadoes we get every year now too.

drewb

Every B2B SAAS joke brings us closer to the timeline where Brace is the keynote speaker at a Salesforce conference

GoyBulletStopper

Run the audio thru ChatGPT and make it mom acceptable.

Nick

Going to the Bay Area in a couple months and will be making b2b saas jokes that no one will get

Catewaxes

intersectional feminist jarjar is INSANE 😭😭😭😭

——

This guy sounds eerily like super producer and Albanian oaf, Eldis sula

Tyler

I’m in physical pain from the brainrot section

Nothingburger

Patiently waiting for them to drop an episode about Uncle Marc

Throw Away

I’m tired of Woke Grok

Ian H

If you hit the three dots button in the top right corner there's a download button, you can get the file and cut it down to share.

Stevie Nicks

Just put the bugs in your belly, bro

tapwaterskeptic

Brace has come out against the algos now that we have seen his IG reals and its scientifically proven that he’s a fucking FREAK

Stevie Nicks

Ep 310... The Plane Truth. Brace and Liz state it is likely the most normiecore episode they will ever do.

Ian H

On the AI tools collapsing people's understanding of process point, a good friend of mine is a grad student in life science at a Southern city university. On multiple recent occasions, they've had students show up for a lab class with the lab results worksheet already filled out, which is obviously impossible since the in-class experiment to generate that data hadn't yet happened. When they point this out and offer the student a new worksheet, they're met with anger and confusion, like the student can't conceptualize that the answer doesn't exist till you go through the process.

Pigeon

What if a gay guy was Chinese? Used to be three men could live comfortably crafting answers to this. We’ve lost so much to the machines

Ant koz

Right… but what if my dick is also small?

Doom Hermit

This is a great interview and topic to address. Immediately one of my top favorite episodes of the podcast. Going to order Jathan’s book this week.

MCL

The P is for poached, the style of egg that is Marc’s head

DarylBarenziah

Brace definitely has TDS as he is sounding like DJT at the Bernadette intro.

Madi

I got my degrees in Geography/GIS and my stupid startup boss has me doing the EXACT thing Jathan talked about where I just copy/paste ChatGPT code… death to B2B SASS. Wish people paid more for in-depth analysis/research. Hmu if y’all ever need maps or spatial analysis🌎

Adrienne Graf

Hours later I’m still not ok lmao

Kenny Allums

I hope Jathen writes how he talks and 20% of the book is the word yo.

will michel

damn guys i literally just got in an argument with my wife about her using chatgpt can yall talk to her

Lara Sea

Love Jathan!

Ellen Grace

Pope Francis took the forever nap

jay alan

Great ep folks! 🫡

Dunc

This guy rocks. Have to note though that he sounds *exactly* like Eldis. Very distracting

Devin

Brace asking if there are any southern podcasters ... to think, he's already forgotten about Talk Tuah smdh

Carter Mize

Recognize Tom Sexton as one of our greatest southern regional podcasters with an accent

Sam Krider

The woke grok voice reads like those shitty spotify roundups

Michael Ouderkirk

Southern podcasting died late last year with the abrupt cancelation of Talk Tuah

Kirstwb

Always love a Jathan ep

sweetiepie

Damn im buying this book

Penelope

brace can't imagine southern podcasters, he's sleeping on the Trillbilly Worker's Party! 🎉

Nicole

That AI intro made me feel nauseous 😂 is there a phobia of this defined yet?

buttface

Every time Liz says "undergird" I smile to myself for no reason in particular 🙂

Victoria

What about “the intelligence which judges context” 👀 Is that context-independent

Brendan Garcia

Liz is right it’s been crazy windy

Sam Krider

De Poopst ass dout😭😭😭

Dom Gina

Ima think on this one.

raychilldolezal

LIZ THANK YOU I HAVE BEEN WONDERING WHAT IS UP WITH THE FUCKING WIND SINCE LIKE LAST SUMMER IT'S FUCKING WEIRD

Gabby S

Wow that intro made me want to commit sewer slide

Rev. Dallas Dupont

dam, i miss the Joma brace, the before forever mag brace

Evan Scott

It has been crazy windy liz don't let those MEN gaslight you

Tranche Devereaux

This ep is Brat. Roll tide. Anybody got eyes on Baby Grok and Livvy?

Sean Dickey

Nothing has made me want to embrace antiquity more than working a tech job I really need to spend more time in nature and less time in front of these screens.

Tranche Devereaux

It’s called Dreamforce 😎 When I hear SAAS all I can see is granny shoes (SAS)

Michael Xin

The Luddites, who were so famously successful in resisting the alienating consequences of industrialization.

Gul Dukat

They need to get together, chemistry would be great and it’s basically the same audience

Madi

No…. even worse, its SASS applications for businesses (real estate/commercial/ some government (fire departments), weather/etc). Basically just a dashboard with an AI enabled chatbot that moves shit/does the analysis for you. I only do like 40% GIS work and the rest is dealing with AI/developer guys that have no idea how to deal with spatial data.

OtherRussert

What the tech bourgeoisie produces, above all, are its own gravediggers.

Andrew

Every kind of weather is tolerable without wind. Wind makes any weather bad.

cl

Totally

Jordan

Communism is the perpetual value machine 😊

Major Pisano

I love braceenomics. Professor Belden explains it all. He’s really relying upon franczakism. Really happy jathen was there to have this chi building conversation. Thanks yc for getting this down for the ages. Kids need to be educated. Schools in season. Prof Beldens class is revolutionizing economics internationally, one smooth brain at a time. I’m just a pupil and I thank you.

nina

came here to say this!

elizabethonline

This summer I’m trying to increase my screen time by one hour weekly until it reaches 24 hrs / day. Expand

DoctorShields

It has sincerely been crazy windy

Tammy

Lmfao sounds like the Witch Doctor from Diablo 3

Tammy

No offense to Brace or Grok

Khemith

Great episode. Gonna get the book asap. I realized that I was in the "vibes" based critique of technology. Been reading Georges Bataille's "General economy" and this new book will really get in them guts.

Zak K

You can tell when yung Chomsky gives the ig login credentials to Brace (in a good way)

Tranche Devereaux

Liz was right- Talk Tuah is a 🔥 podcast name. Welp, I’m goin to bed

Tranche Devereaux

You can’t just say MILF workout without further comment, mama 😁

JZA

Great episode but that 15 min intro will prevent me from sending this to anyone 😔

Maya

This ep aside they’ve been a lot tamer lately for instance il polpo or the zizian stuff are pretty cleaned up versions of previous series imo… Elon episodes (lamest show on earth) are also ok too I think, I sent those to my mom👍

Maya

thanks for leaving these episodes behind the paywall guys, my mom is an unpaid listener and she must be protected from this type of intro♥️

io blanchett

"do they have southern podcasters" girl the trillbillies

CJ

Liz had a strong echo in this one, for sure around the 1hr mark, or is it just my headphones? Threw me off 😭

Frida

Im listening @work rn and when brace started talking like Jar-Jar after Liz woke brain melt I probably bursted a few blood vessels holding back laughter

Kadoken

Trillbillies

David Haigh

Nice to have a phrase for 'vibe coding' but tbf the AI do explain everything to you as you go, so a basic knowledge goes a long way. It's just whether you bother to read the output (you don't).

henry3000

Talking talk tuah southern podcast erasure

Tone

Two date solution goes crazy

rutjake

this woke me up and i can't wait to read the book

Petrorenminbi

It gets so fucking windy all winter even in BK. So much wind it moves furniture on the roof of my building

cogandbal

You may be a women I hate to tell you

Siena

we have the fugly sketchers ad in chicago too lol…just awful

Peter Flynn

Liz’s AI intro sounds like Jamie Peck’s cringiest moments.

Dame

Trillbillies erasure to start the episode. I know Brace said something about them not getting along with people from Kentucky at some point in another episode but I wasn’t sure if it was borne out of something specific

Eric Neilson

Yeah... if you haven't taken the specific classes on software design and on specific syntax, your options are to ask a colleague who knows, or to try to mine stackoverflow. The AI just does that for you (answers your simple questions). Actually building effective programs still requires deep knowledge of software design, etc (I don't even know) which chatGPT ain't gonna get you there.

August Spencer

"Everybody wanna be a Gungan, but nobody wanna BE a Gungan" - Brace Belden

Tim McGovern

Loved this. It's all about asset stripping until there is nothing left, and devil take the hindmost.

AT

Anyone want two tickets to the screening tmrw for free? Please let me know!!!!!!!

SHANOV23

Never thought I'd hear Marxist analysis on my favourite liberal podcast

boop

the bay area has been hella windy all year!

be nice to each other

Damn! Deep cuts from Jathan the TrueAnon head. But also and awesome topic! Thanks for bringing him on.

Shiv

did y’all just invent The Trillbillies podcast from first principles?

Shiv

What if Tom Sexton had an accent

Greg

Enjoyed this one a lot! No notes.

Tom Hallaran

you need to unlock this one please so i can share with various b2b saas bros.

K Barlas

Jeeeeeeesus Christ the first 18 minutes was really tough

Jaime

Grok intros gave me a brain tumor

BeanCurd

ChatGPT is fostering an "allergy to thinking" that is so pervasive among my students it is causing an actual depression in me

Matt Jolo

The mechanic is a guy who sees no use for the new tool. The Luddite is the one who cusses out the salesperson.

K H

Grok so wok (In fonetic Chinese)

K H

From what I remember that is pretty normal from 6th grade until the 4ever nap. A significant proportion of the population isn't built to think about anything they don't immediately find interesting, and a significant proportion don't find anything interesting. Kids are just waiting to be old enough to binge drink.

K H

Can ai commit a hate crime?

K H

Wind is like a force of nature. We should harness it with the power of ai to power ai.

K H

File this phrase with raw dogging...anything.

K H

Wrong. It's fun and quirky. Got ur cap. Poof. Swoosh. Watcha readin? Yippeeee

K H

Try a fun desktop of a forest and a custom cursor that looks like a tree 🌳

MirrorOooMirror

We need a true anon deep dive on data centers episode (series?). Like some seriously shady and destructive shit going down in that space. Namoi Klein puts it best with AI and AI data centers as a “vampire technology”, a parasite depleting Earth’s natural resources especially water—literally destroying our planet—in order to make a fucking artificial mirror/copy of it. Like, what the fuck? Why are we allowing this to happen? And why the fuck do so many people act like AI is just hunky dory? Arrrggg, pull the fucking plug! Pop this god damn vampiric bubble! One more fuck, fuck now thats two more! Captured by Robots! Great band (or is it considered a solo act)? Mind now fritzn, bzzzzzzzzz….

Gideon Weinerth

A dealt with a communications master's degree holder who wrote "There are three versions: One with a zipper and one without."

R

Southern podcasts are known as AM radio

dibeb

This is a really great episode but that intro is abysmal

Leonora Calzogna

jathan is a top five guest imo, his laugh is so beautiful. brace i will buy your romantasy book...

elizabethonline

Wow. Agree with you both in different ways

Anomalie

I almost had to turn it off

OG Cracker Barrel

Glad someone else said it because i can’t get that out of my head (Kylie style)

OG Cracker Barrel

Not the first to say it, but that southern pod comment was lazer focused at Trillbillies and these two shows will never converge like a woke asymptote.

John Harwood

Yes, because just the very idea of AI, let alone the material reality of it, is giving me a brain aneurysm daily.

John Harwood

I teach a couple of huge university classes, and the abuse of AI by students (on even the simplest of assignments) is so wide-reaching that we cannot even implement the standard punishment (academic probation or expulsion) because the bureaucracy involved is so onerous that we can't even go through with the process because we'd be in arbitration for *years*. So all we have left as teachers is to implore them to think on their own, redo the assignment when they are caught red-handed, and then threaten them with that process, which is the weakest levee imaginable. The future is one in which university study is not *mostly* meaningless (as it has been for the past 100 years) but rather *entirely* meaningless.

TrueAnonPod

Ok I have to say something...that joke was not directed at the Trillbillies at all! Plus Kentucky is in the midwest

OG Cracker Barrel

Technically Appalachia because they’re eastern Kentuck. They’re holler people.

jrab

I was told that Louisville is the Midwest but the rest of Kentucky is the south

jrab

That part made me fucking insane. Do we all know that Michael Jackson was originally supposed to play Jar Jar

Eggie

As a Palestinian American I think Rich Hanania might be a weapon devised by Mossad to make me die of embarrassment.

——

The south starts where it rarely snows.

Mackenzie

why is it so windy now though

skalapdrums

Reciting the grok intros like they're the ending monologue of lady bird

Khemith

It's a reconciliation with your environment and each other; all you need is the sun.

J.P. McD.

idk, in my experience in my areas of the city it’s a lot less windy than it has been at times over the last 5 years

J.P. McD.

“Wahhh I can’t share this episode to educate my mom because the intro is so ‘abysmal’ waahh” you sound like a guy posting on Facebook asking for a “well-researched anti-Trump book I can send my uncle” in 2018

The Master

Maybe a dingo ate your pussy ?

JV

Just with my own anecdotal experience on the 'vibe coding' thing, I have zero coding experience and decided to see what I could actually do with ChatGPT with some free time over christmas. I was able to build a simple website and also made a simple word matching flashcard game in Godot, and it was mostly a fun experience. In both cases what I found was that ChatGPT was able to approximately produce discrete, straightforward bits of code that mostly worked, but then it would really stumbled with the regular errors it would produce. About half the time trying to simply brute force the error repeatedly through ChatGPT would eventually get it to arrive at something that worked, and half the time it wouldn't and I'd need to fix it myself or make it build the function from a different angle. All of that work troubleshooting and debugging those cases then meant that I did gradually start to get some understanding of how the code actually works etc. So I can sort of understand how in some contexts it *could* be *sort of* useful as a kind of extremely inefficient learning tool. But as you say, so many people who actually have some knowledge of different disciplines are just using it now as a shortcut and deskilling themselves in the process. It all reminds me of a guardian long read from a few years back about how automated systems like autopilot in planes can improve things most of the time, but then when the systems fail in an emergency, humans have lost the ability to even properly assess what is happening and respond appropriately, and the results are catastrophic. Then goes on to talk about this in the context of self-driving cars etc: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/oct/11/crash-how-computers-are-setting-us-up-disaster

Ben

Brace might be interested to know they have made a second season of No Man’s Land, the 2020 French TV show that has a Brace character.

Shiv

“clutching at the fibers of my fuck-me sundress” has destroyed me

Praise the Omnissaiah

Nothingburger

You can’t convince me that they didn’t use b roll from Dreamforce on Silicon Valley

Carp

Yeah I thought this was a great episode and really interested in the book, but odd not to address the elephant in the room that the Luddites famously did not win much. Particularly given that later UK labour movements won quite a bit more without the focus on machine smashing.

Ethan Schulz

"dey fumblin the cryptosaber" jfc

Liam

Fascinating episode that I want to share with my father but which requires me to warn him about Brace’s dingo centered comments at the start

Tranche Devereaux

That’s absurd. I distinctly recall the douchey computer conference they went to was called “TechCrunch Disrupt” (cringe factor on par with the ChatGPT buzzwords in the intro)

Leanders

Brace’s Jar Jar absolutely sounds like Apu from simpsons

J.P. McD.

Is this one parody?

Eric Neilson

intro is the highlight of the episode.

Benphish

This one physically hurt to listen to.

Bmac

Trillbillies erasure

S. Walker

Damn dog Kabir had me soakin in my fuckme gorpcore

Madison Perry

Jathan is a great guest. He’s funny and a good communicator. “Deep fried value” was a good coinage.

canyon

Episode so good I listened three times and bought the book

Aaaaaaaaaaaron1

Jathan is such a great guest. His breakdown of the state of the moment is so clearheaded and well articulated.

Mike B

Two date solution hahahahaha

Ryan Riggs

Favorite episode in a while. This dude is phenomenally articulate.

wolfgang

Yanis Varoufakis talks about how in capitalism the common misconception is that wealth is created by private enterprise and the state then comes in and taxes that wealth. In reality, wealth is created collectively and private enterprise extracts or capitalizes on that collective wealth.

K H

Please go into this private market eclipsing the public market. I think it may have been touched on previously.

Marco von Ballmoos

At around 40m, Jathan discussed Vibe Coding and properly credited Karpathy for it. He also described Karpathy's background accurately. However, he led us to believe that Karpathy was promoting vibe coding as the future of coding. He was not. See the original tweet > "It's not too bad for throwaway weekend projects, but still quite amusing." He was playing around on the weekend and discovered that it was possible to build something that kind of works using this technique, which is pretty amazing. Even a recent tweet from April 25 contained the clarification > "AI-assisted coding (i.e. code I actually and professionally care about, contrast to vibe code)." Just don't get or give the impression that Karpathy is part of the problem. He published a 3.5-hour video about how these things work. He knows their limitations and isn't a hype/scam guy. Please don't give people the impression that he is.

Isabella Ulate

Amazing episode, love Jathan as a guest, book purchased! :)

Sam de Waele

I have personally witnessed one of my grade 8 students flirting with ChatGPT in class. Close to the most awkward phone call home I’ve ever had to make.

Sam de Waele

Dude the fucking car horns at the start had me freaking the fuck out while driving.

Sam de Waele

Do you have a morning MILF workout newsletter I could read

Honora Beirne

How quickly you forget Talk Tuah.

Nothingburger Burgerreich

I’ll be real I never buy the guest’s book I just look it up on the library’s website and if it isn’t there then tough

Isaac

This Trillbilly Workers Party erasure in the intro will not stand!

This is the roughest first 20 minutes

K H

"I'd rather make out with my Monroebot"

Darren Kennedy

You’ve never hear James Carville speak on a podcast?

Abbas Araghchi

That Jar Jar intro gotta be racist 😭

bruce

100x more sober and necessary than ABOONDANCE

Arno Noack

The Marxist critique of the luddites was always that it wasn't that the luddites were wrong to be upset it's that their alienation had caused them to direct their anger at the wrong Target, the proper Target being the capitalists who owned the machines and not the machines themselves so let's not forget that it's not that everyone came with this pro Capital critique of the luddites. The left critique of the luddites was a critique of alienation and fetishism.
