I am so genuinely devastated about Virginia. This felt inevitable, if not statistically probable. When she talked about her husband and family, she sounded so genuinely happy. I am sad for her family, I am sad for the other survivors who called her sister, and I am frustrated with the systems that failed her. Out of all of the survivors, Virginia was the most press-facing voice. She was the one going through courts most often. She was the one being dragged through the press internationally. She was the one who was most often being forced to relive some of the most crazy ass trauma known to man over and over again, only to be told she was making it up. I'd have lost my shit too. I think its natural for mommy bloggers, or even the very listeners of this podcast, to struggle with accepting suicide. We want to think a conspiracy will free the victim of "guilt" of suicide, or leave us the heroes of solving the "crime." It is human nature to want to be helpful. However, how much of a difference is there between killing someone and driving them to suicide? How much of a difference does it make if someone shot Gary Webb, or that we as a society drove him to shoot himself? Someone is culpable, and at least with accepting probable truths, grieving families are not harassed for years about things they know aren't true. Families, after all, have to clean up the bodies.
