in college i did a work-study abroad in Argentina (2013) and the job i was linked with was an education non-profit founded and run by a member of Opus Dei. he was the strangest guy i ever met; super religious and personally conservative (totally abstinent but wore a wedding ring to symbolize he was married to God, highly repressed, lived in a compound with a bunch of other Opus Dei members) but he also was a huge supporter of President Kirchner (he named his car “Cristina” because he respected her and saw an affinity between her and what his org did which was “take from the rich and give to the poor”). this was also a few months after Francis became Pope, i think he was excited but i get the feeling that wasn’t the Opus Dei official stance

I'm not upset at Trueanon (opus dei are a great subject, though I do worry about the extent to which they're being used as an excuse by people for what are fundamental problems in a 2,000 year old organization that is fundamentally reactionary). Just really, really tired of the current fad of Catholic revivalism on both the left and right simultaneously (HOW??) going on. I had occasion once to go to catholic mass in New Zealand in a private chapel at a large private house that was a boarding hostel for young lady catholic university students and also a youth club for Catholic girls. His article attacking Chapo has already aged VERY badly. It's obvious now with the exact problem he's talking about with reaching young men that marginalizing the 'Bernie Bros' was a huge mistake. There should have been offshoots and copycats of Chapo all over. Witness how Hasan is now so important in being one of the only left voices in that kind of space. He was the one offshoot that succeeded from that world, and it was only because his obvious built-in advantages and connections, but also massive determination.
