I’ve never read anything from him that comes close to being nearly as effusive as this. Half of it is just stacked adjectives. Man, the whole “I wish Epstein was still alive so we could get his hot takes!” jokes just do not land for me, sorry. The veneer of irony really starts to wear thin when the whole episode feels like gossip about soap opera characters. The reality that this is a cabal of monsters who hurt and sell children is treated as an afterthought to the goss’. It pains me to say that I get the same feeling of seeing all those grinning freaks holding up their “Epstein Files” binders at the white house. “Conspiracy fan” content. It doesn’t help that as soon as the news dropped, there were legions of Patreon commenters baying for more Epstein slop for their commute. I guess I don’t hold it against Liz and Brace that audience capture is a real thing, especially when it’s tied to your livelihood. My two cents: Consider giving it an extra day or two (or longer!) to process the deluge of information here into something with some kind of meaningful point of view, or thesis, or heart. This episode was basically a Youtube react video in podcast form. No throughline. Half the runtime was spent reading the full text of individual emails in a silly voice, and the other half was aimlessly riffing on whether Epstein’s hangers-on were cringe or boomer. Not to mention a ton of Twitter-brained, “I miss Trump’s riffs so bad” ironic fanboying over Epstein and Michael Wolff while reading the emails where they workshop Jeffrey’s sex abuse PR (“such a gossip, I love it”). They spent the bare minimum of time on the disturbing political and cultural fallout from the release of these documents. I think they dedicated maybe 2 half-hearted minutes on Megyn Kelly and other right-wingers’ batshit insane defense of “ephebophilia.” Then, they quickly got back to an hour of reading sex trafficker emails verbatim in goofy voices. But wait! They also took the opportunity to plan out their future live tour, where they’ll… read sex trafficker emails in goofy voices. These mfs used to talk about Adorno. This episode was indistinguishable from stand-up comic truecrime slop, and replies like this are absolutely not refuting the audience capture allegations. Their planned-out interviews and investigative series are still quite solid when it’s a topic they care about. This one and the birthday book episode (“That’s a great outfit for Jeffrey. I have to say, he looks iconic in this photo”) are the first ones that I got a distinct sense that the Epstein case—the central subject matter of the show—has largely become meaningless fodder that they can use to let out their inner theater kid. Sorry if this makes me a woke lib! That level of complete ironic detachment is unsettling to me. I guess I’ll never really be completely desensitized to the reality of this stuff. I’m glad not to be. Hope they turn it around.

While I like almost every episode they do, I agree with you on this. It’s hard to get through their Epstein episodes sometimes. It’s interesting to me which subjects they take more seriously than others. Although, I felt their interview with Annie Farmer was appropriate.
