Both Pope Francis, and the more conservative JP2, said that non-Christians and atheist can go to heaven as long as they follow their conscience and find salvation in their own personal way. In retrospect, the rapid unravelling of the post-war order and the fading role of the US in shaping it seems fairly obvious, especially given that one of the first things the Trump administration did was scrap USAID. Yet if you listened to last year’s Davos episode, you’d have come away thinking that whatever turmoil lay ahead, the US would still end up on top by forcing subordinate countries back into line. Europe did turn out to be as spineless and pathetic as Brace said it would be, trying to stay the course as a “happy vassal” and preserve the status quo for as long as it could. Now that this is no longer viable, it’s slowly being forced into making real economic moves that acknowledge the situation. Mercosur agreement will likely go through soon, a major FTA with India has gone through, and it’s starting to look like the EU will begrudgingly start reorienting itself when it comes to China. Anyway, that lady from that last Davos episode is the least vindicated woman of all time seeing how newsworthy it was this year.

I'm late to the party but want to say, congratulations Liz! I am so excited for you. I had my second recently and I'm catching up on episodes. There is a lot of info around preparing for birth but my best advice is to minimize that and maximize preparation for postpartum. Get all the stuff you might need, sitz bath, butt balm etc. Force everyone to make you food. Try not to get out of bed afterwards!!! We don't talk enough about the after, about what it takes to heal in body and mind. Although the birth itself can feel so daunting it will be just a brief part of your matrescence. I wish everyone had more support in the days and weeks after! I've had one in a hospital and one at home, and although hospital care is so valuable it can feel a little shocking when they send you home with this new creature and an appointment in 6 weeks. I hope you have so much love and support!!!!

Idk about Vance specifically, since he's some kind of convert freak, but it is not accurate in general that Catholics automatically assume that everyone who isn't a Catholic is "going to Hell." In fact it would be heretical, I think, to presume to know the dispensation of someone else's soul in that way. Not all Christians approach theology the same way. The whole "everyone who doesn't believe exactly what I believe is definitely condemned to Hell" thing is pretty specific to fundamentalist evangelical protestants.
