I saw Daniel Kolitz at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Danny Trejo's son came out and said that Trejo had no clue who Ben Shapiro was and that his manager marketed it to him as a film where he would be play a hard working Mexican pawn shop owner who advocates for peace in a morally corrupt world. He had no idea that Ben Shapiro or the Daily Wire were involved until 2 weeks into filming and by then he was already trapped in a contract. I think Daily Wire is trying to trick actors who maybe dont have as much work coming in as they used to and are kinda jumping at the opportunity into acting in anything. It kinda shows that the Daily Wire is so desperate for star power that they're literally attempting to scam actors to be in their films.

The ones that are good (especially Trilobites) are very good. I’m a union gaffer . Have to throw my hat in the ring and say that whenever I hear true anon talk about working in film from an experiential perspective it’s often very wrong. Especially from the crew perspective It’s too superlative or the facts are off. Even John Early who obviously has industry experience as an actor doesn’t really understand what it’s like for the crew (just like many of us don’t understand the cast perspective) Brace is wrong to mention seniority because the Hollywood unions don’t have a seniority system with the exception of the teamsters who drive our trucks. This is also irrelevant because micro dramas are all non union because our unions in general are infamous for sleeping on digital media. So the people who organize the shows don’t want to bother. It’s not a lot of older more experienced people doing micro dramas, it is over whelming young people or people from the non union indie world . Maybe sometimes it is an older owner op because proportionally it is more work than it’s been before. It’s not that no skills picked up transfer , that’s not true. In all low budget indie projects department lines get a little blurry . It’s usually a slapped together mess. It’s the same shit that straight to video movies or tv network movie of the week bullshit was a decade ago. It can be a starting point for people or it could be that people never leave that space. I’m sure they will continue to get things about the industry wrong as the episode goes on but these stand out for now.

Also spoke to a coworker's filipina girlfriend who said her mom and grandma are addicted to the homeless billionaire ones. I think they appeal to a, let's say "global" audience, who are already used to insane telenovelas and high melodrama. I think the real rub is that microdramas cant punish me for caring about the show. I still think about how I only watched 2 seasons of Breaking Bad and 1 season of Saul. I know it’s not particularly that sort of podcast, but I’d love to have them interview someone who actually is/was heavily involved in “fandom culture”, or at least adjacent (I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to find at least a few erudite New York-based ones lol). It’s a big big thing for millennials and younger of all types, including self-proclaimed “leftists”, so I think getting an insider view would be educational. For example, I think most fanfic is total junk and not a good use of time as a reader, but it should be said that a lot of it is written by very young people who use it as a way to process their thoughts on romance/etc. There’s lots of anecdotes along the lines of “writing fanfic is where I felt safe” and that sort of thing.
