We’re joined by authors and educators Aaron Leonard and Connor Gallagher, coauthors of Heavy Radicals, A Threat of the First Magnitude, and the Folksinger and the Bureau. We take a closer examination on the assassination of Fred Hampton, operational differences between the FBI & the police, and what we can learn from it.

TrueAnonPod

all good Carly Wack...you're first in my book

TrueAnonPod

thanks Kevin for being the first comment :)

Michael S. Judge

I would dare guess that the Bureau is dead set against any mass release of documentation because it might reveal that Daniel Groth, the FBI informant and CIA-plant Chicago cop who coordinated Hampton's murder, was also in charge of the first (abortive) CIA attempt to assassinate John F. Kennedy on November 2, 1963. If it were made broadly public that this first attempt was almost identical to the Dallas shooting (open car on a motorcade route, patsy with a warehouse job overlooking the motorcade, professional shooters all around), it would be pretty goddamn hard to pretend the Warren Commission was worth the bullshit it was written in.

They haven’t made a JFK episode yet right?

Jack Nancy

I don't believe so, but Michael S. Judge (above commenter) has made the most fantastic series on JFK on his radio show 'Death Is Just Around The Corner' - check it out if you haven't already!

danny

the movie was really great though every performance was stellar

George Honig

I think you should put Flint Taylor on your program. He would be a fantastic guest to follow up on this episode. He was the attorney suing the CPD on behalf of Fred Hampton's family. He also sued the CPD for torturing black suspects, led by officer John Burge. Here is the book. I have heard Flint Taylor on This is Hell, and The Tightrope and he is fantastic.https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1151-the-torture-machine

I'm a baby and can't read. could someone call me a read all these comments aloud to me?

Quinten Monson

How much would I have to pay y'all to compile an official TrueAnon reading list

Mark Owen

Glad Agents of Repression gets a shoutout. COINTELPRO was a type of op, not just one overarching op.

Frank Cold

In the TrueAnon discord server we have our own list for that and one of our members sells those books on their website

hanfjob

I am deeply offended by your down syndrome guy impression

Sarah Rea

Speed reading is fake guys. Micro sleeping, on the other hand, is the path to success, thanks b-bum

Chris Ryan

Literally the most fantastic podcast. Would have never heard of MJ if it weren’t for TrueAnon. The greatest class I’ve ever taken in my life, bar none.

Lulu

This is what I subscribe for!!!

MDW

It would’ve been super cool if you could’ve had an actual black person on to talk about this

Bess C

chicago police are still like this (duh), last year in april 2 prominent chicago husband and wife lawyers, who helped convict cop jason van dyke in the murder of laquan mcdonald, were murdered in their home in oak park and absolutely nothing has come of the investigation. lol

Danielle Larmore

I'm going to need an emotional labor attorney after all of this is said and done.

Erin

Wow thanks for sharing. I'm Canadian and had never heard of this.

babyvoice brace just sounds like babyvoice adam sandler

Nigel Redd

“nothing good ever comes out of chicago” do y’all just not hear yourselves when you talk?? Also, you ppl need actual Black people on these interviews and engaging in these conversations. Have y’all ever had a Black person on that wasn’t Azaelia Banks?????

a clash of purple

Why do you keep saying "y'all?" Anyway, Brace converted to Islam, and that's like being half-Arab, and Arabs are half-black, therefore Brace is one-quarter black, therefore every four episodes they have the equivalent of one black person on.

Nigel Redd

lmaoooo and the fact that they have fans like you is just icing on the cake. Just plain crackerish and nasty 🙃

rutjake

Yay glad to see Aaron Leonard coming back. Such a great, disorienting combo of incredibly fucked up stuff coming from a comforting kind of “okydoke” voice and presence lol.

CT

imagine actually getting mad at an obviously satirical statement like " nothing good ever comes out of Chicago" and then using it as a tool to spin the narrative you obviously were angling for in the first place. amazing.

Sidney Carlson White

Yeah im probably gonna skip this one. I trust Brace and Liz to have good politics in the grand scheme of things, but perhaps they should stick to adrenochrome and not the nuances of black radicalism in the sixties.

Dan Greene

That statement was obviously a joke about the Chicago PD

Daniel Robert Carapezzi

I’m curious about the connection between the opening of cointelpro’s in different groups after they’d been neutered on account of establishing international connections. Clearly the government took that as a major concern for them - was that because the existence or possibility of that sort of connection merely gave the ‘legal excuse’ to open a cointelpro that hadn’t been available before? Did they take it as a sign the group could be rebuilding/regaining legitimacy? Was it merely a faction of the state making themselves believe Communist countries were infiltrating America through these groups the same way some in the DHS believe the YPG trains Antifa?

hannah

Oof COINTELamateur, I'm stealing that!
