Sam Krider

Does anyone know what episode they're talking about when they reference Jia Tolentino and indentured servitude?

David Corgard

Automation in the workplace needs to be pushed into everything possible, but then we'd need Socialism to take over so we work reduced days & hours and paid more, instead of this Financial Capitalism that just steals the efficiency profits due to automation from the workers and pushes us to work even harder for them... we could have to only work something around 15 hours a week with higher wages than we currently get... We must demand turning over the control of the Means of Production to the workers..!

bangoduck

listen to episode 71 of TrueAnon, Jia's parents have an interesting rap sheet.

Shfifty_five

Ideologically, Noah is pretty far to the right of Stewart, who himself is still a liberal mostly, not exactly leftist. This is due to pre-apartheid politics in South Africa. Noah identifies as part of the "colored" racial-political class there (their wording, not mine). Because of the intense racial hierarchy, people of this class do not identify with black Africans, while many identify more with the interests of the white bourgeoisie, often against their own economic interests. Post apartheid SA still has an extremely racialized class structure and political structure. Though Noah may identify as liberal there, he's about as liberal as the Labour Party in Israel, ie fascist lite. This is not to defend what the ANC has become but the other traditional political blocks in that country are atrocious.

Meh

Skimmed briefly & no one said it - lots of queers still use “gender bend,” just be vaguely mindful that not every trans person (or queer) is tryna do that. But it’s fine to use

Speaking as a former welding T/A, Efficiency does not equal more work. That's the opposite of what efficiency is. Efficiency is literally about the relationship between input and output. If you increase work in order to increase the quantity produced, that means there's no increase efficiency. Producing more for the same amount of work And/Or working less while keeping the output the same are how you improve efficiency. E.g. Storing required materials and tools closer to where they are used, using economic order quantities, reducing double handling and reducing any involved paperwork are common ways to improve efficiency without leading to workers being exploited. Don't equate being pro-efficiency to being pro-worker exploitation. Where do you think the phrase "work smart not hard" comes from?

Josh

Wow you’ve embarrassingly misunderstood what Liz and Brace were saying. I don’t think this is the right podcast for you, buddy. The hosts here assume you’re not entirely stupid, so I don’t think you’ll get much out of this. I’d recommend something a bit more beginner friendly for you.

Franz

hi brace

Conner O'neill

Movie recommendation for those who haven’t seen it: The Year of Living Dangerously, about the Indonesian communist genocide of 1964. Just saw it for the first time, very very Trueanon. Also great shows last month guys. Thanks for the show.

Johnny B

I’m transforming into a submarine!

Colin Helpio

Brace had read 2 Years Before The Mast??

Tragedy

William

Just reminded your friends and family - this is the system working as intended

Grimmu

a-10 is based fuck the f-35

Androh

love that y’all discuss this stuff. also, i think i get what “i talked to a few sailors for this” means 😘

Mike Penix

Brace "the Human Fly" Belden

BruceInAdelaide

well noted, comrade, and also check out the more recent work by greg poulgrain. a brisbane academic who has brilliantly syncronised how the massacres of millions in indonesia fitted into the dulles, cia plans and served as a template across the planet. check out kennedys and king website, covert action magazine and black op radio podcasts!

BruceInAdelaide

the F35 represents the dysfunctional, corrupt military industrial and political acquisition process as the US dies. this is how empires die. if the UK had proceeded with such a waste to prepare and to prosecute the "battle of britain", things would have gone very differently in europe. it brings to mind mike hudson's views in "killing the host"

Graham Hoese

What's up fellas, just had my first child, a beautiful healthy boy. The pod is gonna be my friend late at night trying to calm down this screamer

Irvin de la Rosa

I knew the Black Tar Ashkenazi was secretly Brace.

Karl Childers

comrade f-35 is embarrassing the US military while ensuring the empire never gets a next-gen fighter that works. class traitor a-10 is an imperialist dog ravaging the 3rd world for its capitalist masters. you tell me whos doing the real praxis here

Svid

Pfft Liz dont even no bout da Beast Wars

kmd

All this time I thought shipment containers were a natural phenomenon that'd been a part of this world since the beginning

K

Yeah it's crazy how the yield curves inverted *before* covid in 2019.. When i saw that on FRED data I had to do a double take 'cause it was so sus how convenient the timing of covid was. Then take into account the market getting absolutely pumped until late February 2020, and you've got some weird behavior from big money. They're really loving the money printer right now.

Jessica S

I love when you guys talk about this kind of stuff, I know next to nothing about it. Looking forward to the next episode!

orc

Sus to be buying juice in the first place

TrueAnonPod

F 35 rocks dude think of al the losers who hate it then ask yourself why they do…

Svid

Damn, Liz is pissed at CD Projekt. The lack of penis customization options in Cyberpunk must've been the straw that broke her back

BruceInAdelaide

yes Karl, the A10 wreaks havoc on the unarmed and barely armed,

pulled a muscle yearning

It's wild that y'all have never driven a car. Probably dangerous to let brace drive a car, he'd have too much fun. I almost exclusively listen while working on cars.

Jordan J

Black tar ashkenazi is my sugarman

saaffie

Thank you for an insightful episode again. I feel like it's been a while. Matt Stoller wrote a good article on supply chain and the focus on efficiency over resiliency.

CC

Nice one for going in on Noah, bizzare that he is "progressive" comedian. Everytime I see him doing a skit about Trump or whatever Im like dude even Thatcher didnt shoot miners.

saaffie

Will you dedicate an ep to cop26 and not the mainstream points but the structures being put in place to "govern" the global commons? Whitney Webb did an amazing episode on this in unlimited hangout on Rokfin. You talked a bit about the natural asset class over the summer but this really needs to be examined and shared further.

gen~

the sloppy chain 😍🔥❤️

Jack

Does anyone else spit on toilet paper before wiping when you’re away from your bidet?

ClownBabee24

Incredibly good, incredibly depressing episode about the state of the global market. The whole thing needs to be destroyed

Gavin Farrell

Also The Act of Killing. And Vincent Bevan's 'The Jakarta Method'

Gavin Farrell

Yep, nailed it. COVID and a stuck ship are pretty good cover for a real recession and another financial sector bailout on par with the 2008 bailout. NY Fed started the money printer in Sept 2019, well before COVID hit.

Gavin Farrell

Holy shit that Trevor Noah clip.

K

Right!? So true Gavin. And then the COVID response was laughably, almost suspiciously bungled. There was a practical media blackout until March 2020, even as the virus was ravaging China. I am an expert at nothing. I work in a fucking warehouse. But in late January 2020, when there were only a few thousand confirmed cases I decided to guesstimate how many people might die globally. I landed at 20-80 million no matter the timeframe. And then the virus hits and news media are telling people not to wear masks? And somehow there’s a supply shortage? Why couldn’t Nike or whatever other fucking SOE Fed-bankrolled company start making a bunch of masks in the two months when no one was doing jack shit? And then you have these Big Tech companies, who are more than doubling in market capitalization this whole time, spreading disinformation that encourages the virus to continually ravage the country. I think it’s likely that the powerful interests of the West *wanted* this virus to ravage the world. Who cares if it came from a Wuhan lab, Fort Dietrich, or some guy sodomizing a bat in a cave. The powerful made a lot of money sure, but was it a good strategy for a declining civilization? Who knows…

vermouth

Thanks for explaining factories liz

D.K. Wilson

Conspiracy-Pushing Tip: blame the Suez incident on the fact that previous to this, a ship “accidentally” dumped hundreds of containers into the Pacific Ocean - lost Nikes, laptops, Wal-Mart offerings and musical instruments (especially guitars and basses!), and pretty much no one batted an eye.

Azianjeezus

Of course it's impossible to strike on a ship, because it's called a mutiny dummy lol

Char Kelly

“Only queer at the pier” brace once again bringing us our gay culture fix

Char Kelly

Also plz say more about how this came u

Miss Lourdes

Also the spit needs to make certain shape with the correct consistency

D.K. Wilson

Not sure if anyone else pointed this out… but with over 1100 containers sitting on California docks (just LA or throughout the state?), and similar circumstances - lesser in number - in just about every port city, the issue is far deeper (and, as usual, more nefarious) than supply and demand - or anything related to it.

Miss Lourdes

Can we get another celebrity episode at some point and can it be that same guest from the britney episode

TrueAnonPod

Ships do this all the time unfortunately

TrueAnonPod

I have had one in a smoothie but I couldn’t really tell what it was tastin like. I asked the lady what a goji berry is and she told me it was a superfood which didn’t really clear anything up

Brendan Garcia

I tried them when I worked at Whole Foods years ago, snuck them out of the bulk containers. You’re probably not supposed to just eat the dried berries raw like that, but they were chewy, bitter, astringent. For some reason customers at Whole Foods always felt the need to tell me, their stoned and disinterested cashier, all about whatever weird fucking diet they were on. I guess they knew a cornered audience when they found one. But yea I definitely laughed at “people say it’s a superfood when they don’t know what it is,” because that totally rings true. That and, “it’s an anti-oxidant.”

BruceInAdelaide

crank diets by unscientific enthusiasts are just this century's astrology and crystal gazing

Brendan Garcia

There was always something pathetic about it too though. Like they weren’t evangelizing, they were looking to me for validation.

Isaac

Bryce stop saying baby doll, every time i hear you say it i get this gros feeling that slithers to the back of my skull and slowly drips down my spine.

BonBon

Welcome to the jungle sweetheart

Karl Childers

people don't know this but the ocean will absolutely fuck your shit up. 60 foot waves are not uncommon.

theedevilsfire

Thank you for drawing attention to the important issues surrounding all things "retro" and zoot suit, from me, a survivor of the great third wave of psychobilly/neorockabilly explosion of the 2000s.

Lauren Cabral

I was actually reading the original book written by the former CEO of Toyota which was basically the manual for just in time, and there was a part in it that was like "actually just in time respects workers, because when I visited a GM plant, there were just a bunch of assembly line workers board out of their minds doing nothing waiting for someone else to finish their task."

Daniel Martínez González

Of course, they are japanese, they have been indoctrinated since birth to the martial factory work mindset.

AC

I love hate that you're better at describing this then my fancy business school professors

Axel Otto

Who do I talk to about getting unbanned from the discord

BROTHER TO BROTHER

giving a compliment but also telling them you don't think they have been doing a good job is a weird way to give a compliment.

BROTHER TO BROTHER

Just drove from Montana to the Bay Area with my pops last week, through less than safe weather. 50 mph wind and sideways rain, through mountain passes - the truckers were absolutely flying. It made me extremely sad. Prescient episode, thanks ya freaks.

D.K. Wilson

(..was being facetious.) True. That one, oddly, was given media coverage. But the coverage was super short lived and it didn't gain traction.

Aaron Harrison

Not sure I appreciate the episode starting with my favorite first date icebreaker 😔

Sam Langmann

Braces male vocal fry has been out of control lately

Axel Otto

How tf do I get unbanned from the discord

Kate Baldwin

I love 'What's up with the Boats?' Best new pod in town.

Luccia

no idea that's rough and I hate the mod team

Smizmar

Such a great episode!! Thanks you guys!

r b

Probably my fav episode in a long time.

Sparrow

One element you missed in trucking is that it’s one of very few industries that hires a ton of formerly incarcerated people (and their contracts are often practically debt slavery).

laurem_ipsum

It's so crazy to me that I'd never have heard anything about what those sailors are going through if it wasn't for this pod. Such a great episode.

calvin kilby

cry laugh emoji'd hard at this episode

Timothy Massar

Why does brace say the "no ethical consumption" line is cringe, but then goes on to agree with it? Did I miss something?

Ian H

I think what he's saying is that it's over-invoked by people who just want to self-soothe over their own consumption habits, but that the essential point is true; i.e. all the truly destructive and harmful decisions are made further up in the chain of production and distribution, and you can't significantly effect that by consumer choice.

Doug Cartel

why would calling it cringe mean you disagree with it?

Doug Cartel

Zoolander was a marxist deconstruction of the fashion industry
