Fan-favorite Tom Fowler returns to update us on Britain’s undercover policing inquiry. Since 1968, the Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) and the National Public Order Intelligence Unit (NOPIU) targeted over one thousand political campaigns and activist groups, with undercover officers tasked with abusing and manipulating members of the public all in the name of undermining political participation.

You can check out more from Tom’s work at spycops.info, where he has been detailing the national inquiry into the SDS’ activities, the lives that were forever altered and details on just who these officers were and how they operated.

These episodes are always great. Speaking of British spooks, have you guys considered doing an episode about Paul Mason…? 👁

I got arrested at the same time as Andy dick at Coachella in 2004. He was crying, said the pants that had the weed weren't his. I had 20 hits of molly onme, hadn't slept for 3 days, thought I was going to prison forever. I fucking hated that dude.

Considering Brace's hatred of the comments about the "conversational tuning" that makes this podcast great, I think he should reconsider his attitude toward Garrison Keillor. A Prairie Home Companion was a series of "tuning" a dialogue in a humorous way, just like Brace & Liz are able to accomplish in their openings. I'm just saying that Garrison Keillor may have aesthetic merits that influence this show.

The lil passing sectarian swipes at Trotskyists are annoying. I know it’s a bit, but it doesn’t work especially in the British context when the Militant was incredibly influential in mass politics particularly with the Liverpool city council and in the leadership of the Anti-Poll Tax Campaign that took down the Thatcher government.

Doug Cartel

who gives a shit when nobody talks about trotsky outside of dorks who get pissed if you don't agree with 100% of what he said oh also im not a stalinist so you cant use that against me

Adam B

You’re the one that’s getting upset. I’ve got more chill than anyone here.

Titivilis

Everyone knows A Prairie Home Companion was also a CIA op.

The AWL is probably the most rancid political org in Britain and most of the other trot splinters aren’t much better.

Evan Scott

I'm pretty sure I've never met or organized with someone who self- identifies as a Trotskyist who isn't extremely annoying

Boggs

I am here for the intros.

Interview starts at 12:40. The preliminary comedic stylings are better than last ep but still just mildly witty. Nothing truly revolting like last ep. But first, Brace is a dumdum. You don't go to the symphony to listen to the Nuckcracker. You go to the opera. Completely different kind of auditorium. Second, I can't skip over the orchestra tuning at the symphony. But we can skip ahead in a podcast. Third, sure, you do what you want in your podcast. Ofc. I'm just trying to help people get to the good stuff if they so choose. Fourth, "get your own podcast" says Liz, eh? I did. It's awesome. People should check it out. Not you two though. You're not cool enough :p

justdave

Fifth, no. But first, my ass-'thbpbppbpt'

Tom

That's right. That's what makes your scenario that imagines me harassing orchestral musicians for tuning up instead of playing The Nutcracker at The Symphony so silly.

Tom

I'm here for the comments. The comedy, such as it is, is in the podcasts.

justdave

No, it's a children's book that got turned into music, that got turned into a ballet, that got turned into an opera, why is everyone so smuggly superior these days?

Tom

That's a good one! I like it.

justdave

I think Tchaikovsky wrote something about the vitriol and bullshit in the hearts of those trying to become or maintain their fame- he hated the nutcracker, said it was just more fuel for the fire or some shit

2026-09-09 19:00 The sexual tension between Brace and Liz is so weird. It’s simultaneously the most platonic and the most flirtatious relationship I’ve ever seen between a man and woman.
