Liz it is very normal for the mother to guide or catch the baby as it comes out herself. Many would say it is actually preferred. It would not be normal for anyone to ~yank~ a baby out in any fashion, doctors used to pull that shit a long time ago and were literally ripping babies in half, don't look it up. Once you get past the shoulders though that thing just slides right out. My wife caught our second one by herself completely. When you watch it happen it becomes obvious that the mother just has the most control over the little slime ball in the moment and is probably actually the least likely to drop and/or flop it.

Liz nailed the whole """""""data driven"""" problem. Just because you can measure something doesn't make it intrinsically meaningful. Just because your data shows you a road doesn't make it the best one to drive down to fulfill your ends. I've noticed this in the facts n logic and now woke reddit crowd. That because 2 situations are comparable in some facile way, that comparison must be meaningful, as opposed to one of many possible observations. In that way people are more like robots. Instead of using intuition to understand that just because an observation might be accurate that doesn't make it complete or useful, they are satisfied to conclude once they have enough information to make a first solution. The interrogation of the solution is totally abandoned, but the assumption is retained until all distinction collapses, because similarities and correlation can always be drawn. Something meaningless can be imbued with real value by the observer and this happens all the time with investment. Wells Fargo abused this by dumbying up account numbers. Certainly it is done with race. We are limited by what we can see, but also have the ability to know we don't see everything. You have to make predictions and actually be wrong. If you can't be wrong it's just a belief. The basis of data is measurement is perception and we are limited, do not be too quick to abandon intuition. I would go so far to say ai is closer now to artificial intuition, the machine cannot fully explain itself and the human must dimly explain their observation of the machine by calculation, but a human is always the inferior calculator, yet it's a simpler life I guess if there is only what you can measure.

One thing I wanted to raise about genetic testing is that the wide applications of this are mostly in these very messy and hard-ish to things to define and relate to genetics like height, iq, poverty, etc. But pre-natal screening for sickle cell disease or trait which is very established and concretely genetic is non existent in West Africa where the incidence is highest.

Just to support what Liz was saying about this predictive genetics stuff, anyone claiming to be able to predict cognitive characteristics in humans is completely full of shit (outside of stuff like having a genetic cognitive disorder). I work "adjacent" to academic genetics/genomics (a programmer for a scientific web tool used by a pretty small community of mostly mouse/rat geneticists) and there's no way to reliably predict phenotypes as complex as "intelligence" (which is hard/impossible to define to begin with). There's also a lot of pressure in academia to produce "important-sounding research," so people will deliberately seek out favorable results showing a link between Gene A and Cognitive Trait X (etc). The one upside to this stuff is that rich people are constantly being sold a ton of bullshit when it comes to tech/science topics, because there's a huge incentive for "investor storytime" on the part of the people claiming to create the tech in question. No amount of money is going to magically make some of this stuff possible any time in the remotely foreseeable future.
