Gotta set the record straight for my 4 year old self who loved Xena : Lucy Lawless is cool and definitely not crazy. HOWEVER the Xena tv series was a spin off of the 90s Hercules show feat. Kevin Sorbo, who DID go crazy right wing, and posted a bunch of stuff after Jan 6 about how the people who stormed the capital were leftist agitators. Lawless publicly went off at him. Xena was cool for its time (super dated & has not aged well, full of problems now). It featured the first lesbian kiss on network TV and also apparently the first interracial relationship on New Zealand* television (in the 90s, which is crazy to me & maybe not accurate?), even though the show was not overly about romance. Very cool plot arcs about the complexities of making amends for being a total scumbag. The story is kind of like her 12 step recovery from being an evil warlord. *edit: New Zealand not Australia. Also the props and costumes were by Weta pre-LOTR, and you can see them gearing up towards making those films so idk how that slipped my mind.

Why was it so hard for Liz to say Lipstick Alley is exclusively black women? That’s literally the entire point of the website and the reason why it’s been around for two decades. Instead she said it was about basketball and celebrities when two of the main forums are called The Culture - the African Diaspora Forum and The Front Porch! I’ve always suspected she had a chip on her shoulder over bw but this confirmed it for me. She’s funky for that and I hope she’s not a font.

Haven’t fully listened to the episode yet so I don’t know if they mention this. A major gag of the Roman Polanski cameo in rush hour 3 is that he digitally anal cavity searches Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker as a form of like punishment.

Rush Hour 2 is the best Rush hour. I have always loved the boldness and laziness of having Chris Tucker (Detective Carter) reveal the plot mechanic behind all three films by having him say the line, “Follow the rich white man,” as a way to get the characters to solve the case and get them to the last act of the movie.
