Version 0.4 Spoiler 24/10 (Patreon)
Content
As planned, yesterday's spoiler was supposed to showcase the Achievement system, but I buried myself under code and haven't even started on the graphical representation yet (aka the Achievement screen where you can look up your achievements, etc.). I guess we’ll just talk about it for now! At this point, the backend system seems to be working, but I still need to add a few triggers all over the game. The point of Achievements in my game is to make certain mechanics easier, especially if you ever have to start a new playthrough. For example, let's look at the Menagerie. Normally, you have to deliver 5 monsters to recruit a specific type. However, there’s an achievement that decreases the required delivery amount by 1 if you’ve already done it once on any of your save files. So in future playthroughs, you'll only need to catch 4! On top of that, if you manage to deliver all types within a specific Family, the requirement for all of them drops again down to just 3 monsters needed for recruitment. I have similar plans for Storage. If a player expands to, say, 9 columns, they’ll get a permanent +1 column from the achievement, with a similar bonus for rows. That means you could end up with a 10x10 storage capacity and start new games with 2x2. I plan to apply similar effects to monster catching, which I touched on previously. I also want to add some unlockables to Crafting, but I’ll tie that into the long overdue crafting rework planned for the next version (0.5).
As you might have noticed, there seems to be a new wolf variant. That's our 1st Elite enemy! For this version, I had only planned the Elite Wolf, but if time allows, I might add an Elite Slime as well. Elites spawn when you deliver enough monsters from a specific family (you essentially make the entire species angry!). They spawn somewhere on the world map and will track down the player from an infinite distance and they won't despawn when the world resets. In the meantime, other monsters can pick a fight with an Elite enemy, but they’ll always lose feeding Elite in process. Elite will change its behaviour if player is in save zone, into hunting mode to get stronger. Up next, I still need to do the graphics for the Demon girls who won the Patreon vote, and some code adjustments. I’m planning to release v0.4 around November 7th (the same week as the public/free release of v0.3) to stay on track with the goal of releasing a new version monthly!
And have some sprites i done for now. Only Elite wolf is done fully, while its 1st draft for one of Demon transformations
