hi I purchased your model, does it need supports ?

Blonde_Siren

The settings that import with the file are the exact ones I use, and I have flawless prints.

gabe capobianchi

hi, can I add pictures in here to show you what's going on with this print. Having a difficult time with the print

Blonde_Siren

Sure! I've printed over 30 of these without issue but definitely let me know what's going on

gabe capobianchi

im so glad you've made 30 without any issue, great.... how do I add photos or be able to show you what is going on, there isn't a link to add photos

Blonde_Siren

I'm not sure if you're on mobile, but I have an option on my phone

gabe capobianchi

You must have different setting because I’ve tried 3 times and it’s virtually impossible to get a quality result without supports and with supports it’s not much better

Blonde_Siren

Do you have supports enabled? The supports are there to hold up that fur

Blonde_Siren

The ones that are part of the print are the settings I use and I get clean crisp lines, but I also use supports and they pop right off.

gabe capobianchi

I mean, it's pretty clear I have supports enabled, the entire model is supported , which is another problem where removing the supports even after adjusting z height does not leave a clean model.

gabe capobianchi

with all due respect, you initially told me that you do not need supports, but you do use supports? may I ask what machine you are using ?

Blonde_Siren

I just went back through our comments and I never once stated that it did not need supports. It's very obvious this needs supports. I am honestly not sure what to tell you as I have reached out to others as well that have bought this file and they sent me photos of their prints and their prints are fine as well. It could be the filament you're using, if it's too wet, your nozzle type, how old your nozzle is, there's so many other factors that could be going into your failed prints but other users including myself are having no issues and so I'm not sure what to tell you. I use the FlashForge Creator 5 and FlashForge AD5X, one of the other users uses a Snapmaker U1. Another user uses a P1S without issue, so I'm not sure how to help you past this point. It could be a small minor setting even in your start G-Code that could be causing failure, but I'm a file designer not an IT tech on every single printer out there, so I'm not sure what more to do at this point.

Blonde_Siren

Also, unless you took them off for photos, I don't see a single support in any of your photos. Just where your printer is printing spaghetti, which will happen if supports aren't enabled.

Nick Cortez

Could you incorporate a dowel for the candle plate? To make easier alignment for gluing?

Nick Cortez

Turned out fantastic by the way. Thank you.

Blonde_Siren

I thought about that, but there's not anyway to do that without putting a ton of supports into a tiny hole for the dowel to slip into. Right now the tray can print flat on a build plate. If I put a hole in the bottom for the dowel, now the printer wants to print a ton of supports to support that hole and getting all of those out would be a nightmare, not to mention, you risk not being able to get the supports all the way out and it not sitting flush and secure. Trust me, I did think of that though!

Nick Cortez

No worries, just a thought. I had to look at it 50 different times before hitting the commit button. 😂

I think we may be talking past each other here. My original question was very specifically whether the model needed supports. Your response was that the settings imported with the file were the exact settings you use and that you get flawless prints. I took that to mean I should use the file with those imported settings. You never actually said, “Yes, this model requires supports.” That’s why I asked again after having problems. I understand that you’ve printed 30+ successfully and that other people have printed it successfully as well. I’m not questioning that, and I’m also not new to 3D printing. But repeatedly telling me that it prints perfectly for you and others doesn’t really help identify what is different about my setup. What I was hoping to get from you was simply something like: “Yes, supports are required. Here is the support type, threshold/angle, interface settings and Z distance I use to get them to release cleanly.” If those settings are already embedded in the file, then something clearly isn’t translating correctly when I import it, because I’m not getting the same result you are. I’m not asking you to troubleshoot every printer or be an IT technician. I’m simply trying to determine the specific support settings you use successfully for this particular model so I can compare them directly with mine.

Blonde_Siren

I understand what you're saying, the settings should have imported automatically with the file. If they did not, then you could have mentioned the supports didn't transfer over. The file was saved using supports, as all of my files require them. I'm actually not sure of a single print that isn't low poly that does not require supports. My second comment to you was asking you if you had supports enabled and you said you did and that the whole thing was supported. Then you proceeded to tell me that I told you that this model did not require supports, which was incorrect. I don't think the issue is whether we're talking past each other, it's because you are telling me information that isn't correct. You specifically stated you had supports enabled, but your photos show no supports. My second comment to you was asking you if you had the supports enabled and you responded saying this whole thing was supported. I am try to help you as best as I can, but your information you're giving me simply is not accurate to help you. "I’m simply trying to determine the specific support settings you use successfully for this particular model so I can compare them directly with mine." Then please just say that instead of telling me you have supports and then telling me I said something that I didn't. Support settings are as follows: ENABLED tree (auto) Default only check the Remove small overhangs or ignore (depending on printer Top Z Distance 0.275 Bottom Z Distance 0.275 Top and bottom interface layers are both at 4 Happy Printing

gabe capobianchi

This photo must’ve not come thru when I said that the whole model was supported. And that I did print it with all the supports and it did come out still like the photo I will add another photo after I’ve removed the supports

Blonde_Siren

It came through now, are you leaving it at 30 degrees?

gabe capobianchi

Thanks. Now that I know the photo showing all the supports didn’t initially come through, that explains why you thought I wasn’t using supports, so we can put that part aside. And you’re correct that you never specifically said the model did not require supports. My point was simply that my original question was “Does it need support?” and when you responded that the settings imported with the file were exactly what you use, I assumed everything necessary was included. My difficulty has been that even with extensive supports, and after experimenting with the Top Z distance and interface settings, I’m still getting significant imperfections after support removal, particularly around the fur, fingers, nose and other detailed overhangs. The rest of the model is printing quite cleanly, which is why I’ve been focused on the support settings rather than assuming it’s a general printer, nozzle or filament issue. I wasn’t questioning whether you’ve successfully printed the model or whether others have. I was simply trying to understand what was different between those successful prints and mine. Now that you’ve clarified that you use tree auto/default supports, I have the information I was originally looking for and something concrete to compare against my settings. Thank you for taking the time to clarify it.

Blonde_Siren

Also make sure you have a prime tower enabled, that will help with cleaner prints too

Nick Cortez

This is what I’m referring to in the message I sent you
