Awesome to get Frieren and Bebop ep 5 on the same day! It's been years since I've watched it, but ep 5 plays like a movie, in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, there's an opera scene that's kinda similar, the score was epic with the organs and it felt like angels were singing to the audience. Also cutting to Jet mis-cutting the bonsai tree cuz he was worried, so good.

It’s one of like a handful of anime where the dub is genuinely better 🤷🏽‍♂️

Ballad of Fallen Angels is one of my favorite episodes of anime of all time. Probably favorite episode of tv in general. So glad this is when you tried out the Dub.

FlexiejayAnime

It was beautiful!! I was quite surprised I was suddenly getting something so artistic and gorgeous. Definitely one I’ll go back to in the future to enjoy.

This episode features two standouts from the OST as well. I’m sure you can guess which two I’m gonna say, but they’re “Rain” (the one with the organ) and “Green Bird” (when Spike’s falling out the window). Absolutely brilliant pieces.

Man, I was enjoying the Sub so much, I hope going forward you don't stick with the (in my opinion) inferior Dub. So much rushed dialogue... *edit: Ah well, looks like the Dub keeps going in the next episodes, it was nice while it lasted.

FlexiejayAnime

Don’t worry I’ll be going back to the Sub. I wanted to experience both.

:)

The Sub is better but the Dub is nostalgic.

Kenneth Harris

"Green Bird" the song while he's falling, has been one of my playlist staples for a couple decades.

I just have to say that I'll never forgive the live action for ruining the characters in episode 5

Changing to dub after a few episodes is not cool. I got the 50$ pack and now I regret it.

I much prefer Faye's eng dub!

I'm a bit shocked to see the people here who wanted it to stay with the sub. Seems like the best dub I've ever heard in anime. I'm not talking about spike, or jet, or faye.. but everything. They just suite the setting, the theme, the vibe.. like you wouldn't even notice it, because it just fits. It's extremely hard to find a dub of this quality imo. And for the record, I've watched it in both over 10 times each... and I respect the sub. I just know that this dub is by and large favored even among hardcore sub loyalists. I'm glad we're getting a taste of both here, but I'm also grateful we got my favorite episode in all of anime in the dub version. Really enjoying your reactions Flexie!

You're starting to get the flow now Flexie. Each episode features a new bounty... and somehow, someway, they never get paid in the end xD It's not like any episode is a throwaway, even if it's very episodic and focused on a little mini short story, even if they're not like episode 5 going deep into a main characters history. Each one has a theme, and it is building the characters, the world and the story upon that theme. If you pay attention, each episodes title includes a music genre, and the theme song for that episode features that genre. Not only is the music incredible, but every episode revolves around a music genre, and this character and world building aligns with that vibe. Pretty incredible right? There's a reason this anime is legendary, and my comments barely have touched the surface. Just each characters backstory and their stories progression is leagues beyond what you see in most stories... and I wont get into that, because it's better to discover it on your own... even if it takes re-watching several times. As I mentioned in a past comment.. every episode has a tremendous amount of little details buried in it. You're going to miss most of it the first time through. Things will make sense in further reveals, but you'll never keep track of all the details, the foreshadowing, and the complete picture when those reveals come. It will hit you.. but every time you re-watch you will catch more and it will hit you deeper. Once you know a characters story... seeing how they react in every scene when you go back makes a world of difference. You can feel that character and their history in every word and action. Here I am, watching for the hundredsomethingth time... and I'm still seeing and feeling new things.
