W REFRESH PULL 🔥 Such a great episode

Gustav

When she saw scar working out 👀 lol you probably forgot or it just seemed easy to look over but yes if you tattoo or place the transmutation circle on your hands it more convenient. With roy and armstrong they have their circles engraved on their gloves/gauntlets

The plot thickens! Greed is one of my favourite characters introduced in the series, and I always find myself excitedly counting down the episodes to his introduction whenever I do another rewatch. He's so interesting in his villainy, seeking to gather all the men, power and information he could. The translation is a little unusual again, he actually explains to Ed that he's had a "falling out" with the rest of his homunculi family in Central. So, he's been running his own little underground operation in the South, and his henchman are former chimera test subjects. Their mere existence also spits in the face of the research Tucker was performing. That the military already had a successful program presents some interesting questions. Going back to Izumi, I do like how the teacher-pupil relationship ending immediately allows them to speak as equals. She's angry, but ultimately, she just wants what's best for HER BOYS. Combining their knowledge to seek an answer is so satisfying. Speaking to that again, I must stress once more how every time an alchemist performs a transmutation on the fly, they must analyze and understand the chemical composition before they can change it. Ed attempting to bring their mother back inadvertently gives him the know-how to get the drop on Greed, and it is so satisfying. Unrelated, but Roy's specifically is interesting, in that to create his flames, he must split the H2O composition in the air. Not only that, but also create a path with those split elements, then ignite them with his gloves. FMA is a series where to compete, you have to be a genius, and it's incredible.

Izumi, just a normal housewife 😁

FlexiejayAnime

I was wondering but wasn't really sure if thats what he did or not.

Plushxi

I was surprised Greed and Gojo was voiced by the same VA but then I remembered I watched this in English. It’s fun learning new things rewatching this in Japanese with you. I was definitely looking forward to you getting to Greed though!

Dominik

I was thinking about how I remember Creed saying something along the lines of not being on bad terms with those Homunguls from headquarters, or not getting along with them, or something like that, and I felt like that was missing here. Anyway, I really like his character.

Paweł Kapusta

You just gotta love how greedy Greed is, and how humane his immense Greed makes him look

Dominik

In my opinion, it's a real shame that, unlike the manga and the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, this version doesn't show Yoki's origin or explain why he hates Ed. Here, he's basically just thrown into the story, even though he was briefly mentioned in passing in an earlier episode. So, for Flexie and as an interesting bit of trivia about what we missed: In both the manga and the original anime, we meet Yoki fairly early on. During their travels, Ed and Al arrive in Youswell, where they discover that Yoki practically rules the town. He imposes absurd taxes, extorts the miners, and abuses both his military authority and his position. In the end, Ed cleverly tricks him by getting Yoki to transfer the ownership papers for the mine into Ed's name in exchange for a huge amount of gold. Since Yoki is greedy, he agrees. To make sure it wouldn't be considered a bribe, Yoki officially "gifts" the mine to Ed for free as part of the contract. At first, Yoki is delighted because he now has a fortune in gold. However, after some time, the gold turns back into ordinary stones. Ed hadn't actually given him real gold, but only stones that had been temporarily transformed. He then goes to Ed to complain, saying that this wasn't the deal and that he was supposed to receive gold. Ed laughs at him, shows him the document proving that he now owns the mine, and says something along the lines of, "What deal? You kindly gave me the mine as a gift." As a result, Yoki loses the entire mine, loses his position, is thrown out of the military, and the people of the town gain their freedom. The residents of Youswell then beat him up for everything he had done to them. After his downfall, Yoki ends up living on the streets, blames Ed for everything, and is eventually taken in by the Ishvalans, which is what we see here. From that point onward, the story continues the same way as it does in the manga. It was a really enjoyable story in both the manga and the original anime. I personally prefer Brotherhood over the original anime, but they unnecessarily cut out a lot of material here and move through the story far too quickly.

Alex Hencher

Its really weird that that didn't make it into here. It certainly happened in this world, but they just skipped over it.

Dominik

I read somewhere that they cut a lot of scenes because the previous version of Fullmetal Alchemist had already covered most of the material sufficiently, and the creators assumed that the audience for Brotherhood would consist of people who had seen the original series or read the manga and were therefore already familiar with the story. So the first part of Brotherhood moves at a faster pace, and later on, when we get to the part that the original anime didn’t cover, they’ll focus more on the story and won’t rush through it as much.

ReyMed

Best boy Greed enters the show

AttackRunRepeat

I love the introduction of this GOAT (greediest of all time) 🤣🤣

JojoJack

This is where the OG 2003 FMA anime starts to deviate from the manga by introducing its own plot and reveal.

Paul Montgomery

Ed with the flying head scissors on Greed! Very effective!

Maxter of puppets

Anyone know when she’ll react to the OP? Been waiting for that

DonnyBoxcars

GREED IS HERE! BEST BOY GREED!

CuttyFlam

My dad had one of those cement dumbbells when I was a kid lol. Haven’t had that memory in my head for a very long time.

Gpinko

GREED my favorite Humunculous! I've watched this show countless times but only recentyl discovered this was Gojos VA....I love him even more

inkfinit

Greed is our goat, flexie. And the next episode is one of the best in the series imho. Come prepared.

James B

We get pretty much this whole story, just not right now.

ODOGG

I think its a little more than just tattooing. Cant remember

Russ Tan

I'll say it here because they never touch upon it in either the shows or manga, but Mustang's commander, General Grumman, is Hawkeye's grandfather. I always thought it was a bit weird the shows never even talk about it given both of their connections to Roy

Alex Hencher

I always kinda assumed that, but it makes me really sad, because its almost impossible now to introduce new people to fullmetal the way I did. I don't even think the OG is easily found these days. But I distinctly feel like I had a different relationship with characters because of the OG, that people that only experience Brotherhood will never understand. Yoki certainly meant something to me that no one just watching brotherhood can understand.

AnonX

Tbh I much prefer having his story shortened in FMAB. I don't like the guy and his beef with Ed is very quickly explained later on, and it's all you need to know. His arc in the manga was a bit of a pain to read through. That's me though, I get where you're coming from.

AA

I liked the conversation between Ed/Al with Greed. It made me think of ‘what is human being’ kind of question. And what is more is that Hiromu sensei was giving these with humorous expression. Also, how ‘greed’ means to a characteristic of human being really makes this encounter interesting.

Volele

So you probably missed it in a previous episode but Ed explained what Scar is doing. Basically there are 2 parts to alchemy. First, deconstruction and then second reconstruction. You have to deconstruct something to re-shape it. So basically, Scar is simply stopping halfway. He grab stuff and deconstructs it and that's it. Something any alchemist can do.

dthorizon

Curious if this is in spoiler territory for this version. I was just thinking about how in some ways I liked the original anime a bit more or in its own way because of how it told the story but I forget if we learn more about what you're talking about in future episodes of here, Brotherhood.

Zhentarhn

Really, dude? They give his entire story later. Sure, it's very condensed because it was literally just a small passing bit in the manga, but the first series had to fill full episodes with stuff when they were making the show because they kept catching up to the manga. We don't really need the full episode, because Yoki himself summarizes it quickly much later! Mods, any chance we can remove this comment section?

Zhentarhn

My own personal opinion, FMAB is a philosophical Anime. They dive into some serious mental exercises that make you ponder so much about the world. It's also highly educational. We just got a HUGE lesson in different forms of Carbon!

Daniel Drew

Dang, the moment she slipped inside I was like oh yeah, her, and then immediately like, OH. RIGHT.

Benjamin Sones

I love that Greed takes off his glasses right before he gets his head bashed off, so that they don't get broken.

EstebanEsquivel1994

It's not surprising that the Military would do things like this. Who knows in real life the unexplained we see that can't be explained, it might just be the Military conducting experiment we have never seen.

LocoTacoKing

We can finally talk about it! The price of committing the taboo. Izumi tried to bring back the baby she made internally, cost: internal organs. Al, tried to bring back is mother, the light of this life, cost: everything. Ed, Was using alchemy as a foundation, cost: 1 leg to stand on. Bound his brother's soul, his right hand man, cost: his right arm.

nezo

As I read the og comment, I was wondering how I already knew the whole story when I've only seen FMA:B. Thanks for clearing that up.

Kyle Taggart

I loved how you just sat through the outro here and were just enjoying every second of what you just saw. To me, this anime stands the test of time. I saw this when it came out, and watching ppl’s reactions to it now so many years later, is so so fun. Greed, is so badass, Izumi is the ultimate baddy, and this isn’t even the half of it!! So stoked for you to continue this journey. A small comment, you commented maybe an episode or so ago, that the show is too abrupt with the switch between drama and humor sometimes, which is understandable, I’ll say your pausing and going back multiple times is jarring too. Just a small nitpick, I overall enjoy your reactions. But there’s some all time moments coming, and I think sitting with the moments at times, and just reacting, is the better way to go about it. Anyways, cannot wait for you to see what is in store!

warlockbavs

Yeah I was surprised cuz FMAB is one of those Dub only shows for me xD

Evan Fortune

I love hearing Bon-chan's voice in all anime

Alibey Bal

I read the manga first mate, you ain't special.

Alibey Bal

It was 40 pages of well paced story that's exactly like any other side quest in this story. I have to assume you don't like FMA in general if you don't like that story.

Dominik

Good for you? Or what is your point?

Giulia Beonio

Honestly I think the structure of this episode it’s kind of interesting, because here it looks like Izumi came to Ed’s rescue… while in the manga is the opposite, Izumi arrives first, and then Ed…😅 no idea why they changed it…
