It's not really called that, it was just the chapter title when it was introduced. From what Kudo has revealed, he's calling it "demi-hollowfied ichigo" but people like horn of salvation more. No, he haven't used bankai yet. You haven't seen nothing yet, but this cour will break you 😂

Yes yachiru is his zanputko spirit!! Do you remember when they first met she crawled up to him and touched his sword after he asked what her name was…also she vanished out of her clothes the exact moment zaraki said nozarashi for the first time!! Crazy kubo sensei!!😂

Also I think you were slightly overwhelmed by the hype but Yachiru IS Kenny's zanpakuto! That's why she says "if you use me properly, there's nothing you can't cut," and why we haven't seen her since Kenpachi unlocked his shikai!

a couple of things for this episode: we are now officially 10 chapters of manga away from the end but we have 6 episodes left so tons of new material should be coming. yes that is shoto's va and he has a tweet out there talking about how he was honored to voice adult Toshiro but felt weird since he felt the OG va (Rumi Park) could have pulled it off. but once he got into the booth both kubo and Rumi Park were there to help coach him. and lastly next episode is the first time in the thousand year blood war, possibly the whole series (excluding fiiller) that does not have a manga chapter as a title. "Defend you" is a anime original title. cant wait for next week!

Especially this episode with the duo poem, having the OP start with Ichigo’s breath and the ED start with Orihime is great. All these little bits of connective thematic artistry are making this super fun for someone who has been shaped by the manga the way you have been shaped by this anime.

For the Yachiru thing. Notice she originally disappeared after the fights with Unohana and Gremmy. Mostly Gremmy, where Kenpachi uses Shikai for the first time. I've personally heard theories that instead of his Shikai, she's the Soul of his Banaki, as you can hear both her and Nozorashi say it in unison. Also, for a fun fact: If memory serves me right, we haven't seen a Gran Rey Cero used since it was originally introduced by Grimmjow in the Hueco Mundo arc. It was dope seeing Ichigo use more Hollow like abilities, and a wonder to see animated finally. Another fun fact: "Defend You" is not the name of any of the remaining manga chapters. Bleach Chapter 676 - Horn of Salvation (and Chapter 677 - Horn of Salvation 2) is the Chapter name in which this form was first introduced in the manga.

Kubo had to explain Yachiru and Nozarashi relationship in his Club Outside questions from fans because it is not clearly explained in Manga or Anime. Basically what Kubo says is Nozarashi is his Zanpaktou, Yachiru is a manifestation of its bankai form and she got shinigami powers after Zaraki gave her a name (Yachiru after 1st kenpachi Yachiru Unohana (later known as Unohana Retsu). She never was a true shinigami. She was his bankai manifested in real world all the time. It is said that his bankai properly manifested is Yachiru as a grown up woman, most likely the owner of the voice that talked to him the first time he released Shikai form during his fight against Gremmy. When Yachiru used her abilities to protect herself and Nanao against one of Gremmy's creations, she did in fact mimic shinigami by acting like she is using her own zanpaktou when in reality she was using a portion of Zaraki's bankai abilities (ability to cut through everything and always hit). As we know already, Gremmy kind of destroyed Yachiru's physical form by turning her bones into cookies. After those events Nozarashi finally reached Zaraki and there was no longer a reason for it to manifest itself in a form of Yachiru no longer

Now that we have seen all of these fights, you should go back and look at Senjumaru of Squad Zero’s Bankai! Her Bankai showed the future of what was going to happen to the Royal Guard: -Lillie Barro shot at mirrors that reflected his power back on himself, just like how he died vs Shunsui and Nanao -Pernida was swallowed by a pit of black sand. Kurotsuchi means black soil. Kurotsuchi defeated him. -Jugram was surrounded by flames. He goes on to defeat Bazz B and his flames. -Askin was enclosed and pierced by a metal coffin. Grimmjow using the hollows Hierro(iron) skin to stab Askin and break his heart. -Gerard was frozen by cold bed linens. Toshiro froze him -Uryu wait and see Yes Yachiru is a PORTION of Zaraki’s zanpakuto spirit. Episode 20 of TYBW there is a flashback as Kenny releases his Shikai for the first time and calls out Nozarashi. In that flashback Kenny meets Yachiru and ask her “Where are you from?” and she crawls up and touches his blade. There has been some other foreshadowing as well in OG Bleach. If Kenny cut the Quincy Star Cross that formed around Gerard’s heart he would have defeated him. Unfortunately Kenny’s Bankai is brand new so his body couldn’t handle its full potential. Toshiro’s Bankai is a little more OP than just an Ice power up. By freezing opponents and objects he also freezes the concept of their power!

The getsuga-cero forming between his horn and sword is amazing because his sword is essentially his other hollow horn when white is awake. It's a nice touch calling back to the cero forming between his horns in Vasto Lorde form but now it's complete mixed with getsuga as his shinigami power

Idk if this was the intention, but I love the implication that Kenpachi's inner world takes the shape of the forest where he "met" Yachiru. Iirc, it wasn't like that in the manga.

All the female reactors I've seen react to mature Toshiro (Michelle from Rice and Ginger, AliAnimus, and now, Flexie) have had the same reaction lol. Makes me wonder if Rangiku has seen Toshiro in that form lol. With Yachiru and Kenpachi, notice that he's the only one who can see her in this episode, which is why it looks so fuzzy and otherworldly in that scene. So, as others have mentioned, she is indeed his zanpakutou spirit. Like others have mentioned, Horn of Salvation is what fans call Ichigo's new hollow form because that's the name of the chapter it first appears in. Ichigo's combined Getsuga Tensho/Gran Rey Cero attack looks absolutely gorgeous animated. Also, Gerard's "Miracle" ability annoys me

The Zanpakuto are technically people. Kinda. They are an extension of the Shinigami's soul and have souls and names of their own. They're almost separate people because of that but connected to the Shinigami. Kenpachi found that sword off of a random Shingami so a common theory is that Yachiru was the original Zanpakuto spirit of that Shinigami, mixed with Kenpachi's own Shinigami powers. When Yachiru said Bankai there were two voices. Yachiru also has her own Zanpakuto and Shikai so those might be the remnants of the original sword's power. The training for Bankai requires the manifestation of the Zanpakuto spirit in the real world so Kenpachi's been unconsciously doing that by manifesting Yachiru. When Kenpachi first met Yachiru he asked her where did she come from and Yachiru answered it by touching the Zanpakuto. Yachiru is Nozarashi, the Weather-Beaten One (the translation of its name). Referencing the rough life Kenpachi led in the Rukongai and the state of his sword. Chipped, damaged and unheard by its master. When he hears the sword, he unlocks Shikai and Yachiru disappears. When he sees her again, he unlocks Bankai. Also when Kenpachi saw Yachiru again, the background was the same place where he saw her the first time.

The name "Horn of Salvation" comes from the manga chapter where the form is revealed. That's the chapter's name and it clearly references Ichigo. Has biblical connotations as well, namely Samuel 22:3.
