2026-09-05 07:00 The best version of Sanji is finally here. As someone who dislikes the anime/manga Sanji I love live action Sanji because he doesn't have the weird Japan extreme pervertedness that they seem to love.

As someone who dislikes the anime/manga Sanji I love live action Sanji because he doesn't have the weird Japan extreme pervertedness that they seem to love. Hawkeye's actor is just perfect casting again. Nami and Zoro are definitely a couple I ship, not obnoxiously, but even in the anime they have so much chemistry and an interesting dynamic that they pair well together. He's always saving her, she's always telling him what to do, he listens to her and does what she tells him to.

You're so right. The casting was amazing. But Usopp? Man they really found him.

Alexandre LE

What a cast! Taz Skylar as Sanji is the best choice. I love his accent. And Zeff... so Zeff he is!

Traf

I believe the reason for early Garp and the Koby focus is to have more world building at the start of the show. East Blue saga in the manga does have a bit of worldbuilding, but overall it has a "villain of the week" vibe that might not work as well for a live action format.

Caro

i’m pretty sure zoro was on the wrong side of the ship LMAO 😭

Zoodinger

You can see Pearl's still body on the ground in a couple of the shots, including the last one where Don Krieg is also down.

Alex Hencher

The zoro nami chemistry in this is crazy. I can totally see why the show writers wanted to ship them, but Oda nixed it.

KevinsLunchbox

I love how when Don Krieg walks up to face Mihawk you can see Pearl dead on the sand near him

Alex Hudson

Waiting for don kraig bro that man is dead 😂😂 you can’t relate this to the anime with characters surviving they straight up off characters in this show happens a lot

FlexiejayAnime

NO WAY? I gotta go back and look at that lol Can't miss Pearl....

Sukramus

Many of the outfits are actually from the mangs's cover pages

Zero_1371

Awesome to see they still put garp in the Hawaiian style shirts in the flashbacks. And garp doing the meteor fist with the cannon balls is still cool in love action.

FissionMailed

I’m not sure if anyone’s pointed it out but all the wardrobe changes are all canon outfits, either from concept art or from cover stories. So it’s all accurate!

juniorviana

I do like that zoro carries 3 swords and 3 dreams with him(his, Kuina and Luffy's)

manija5059

zoro speech hit harder in anime

Benjamin Sones

"In the anime, Garp is really OP." Garp: immediately grabs a cannonball.

Void

I can definitely see they were trying to go for it in the live action and I don't hate it, but Oda says no. Oh well, I enjoy the chemistry between the entire crew a lot, especially in season 2

Keylara

When Zoro and Ussop tease Nami about Sanji's flirting you can really see how Luffy doesn't get it at all, but smiles because he enjoys his friends having fun. It's such a good moment and so telling for our boy!

Void

Sanji's here! While I love Sanji as a character in the anime/manga, I like him much more in the live action. Sanji in the live action is much more "lover boy", more subdued in his love for all women which I think Taz's acting helps. While anime Sanji is very over the top but that's very anime. Not a trope I'm in love with but it doesn't bother me

Rodney Coverdale

yes Mihawk is here and so is Craig with a slight smirk LOL Flexie you are priceless!

100Rainy

I think the live action actor for Mihawk took some cues from the eng dub. Mihawk's English va for the anime kinda speaks in a similar manner.

100Rainy

I appreciate how Usopp was able to read Baratie's name before anyone else, without needing to use binoculars or anything. It's a small way of showing just how incredible his eyesight is even from that distance.

hoobity

luffy's nose walked so chopper's nose can run DON CRAIG!!! OH THE MEMORIES 😭

JF

Most of the outfits are either from the cover stories or from the One piece color walks

elenian

The fight with Mihawk is probably the best part of the adaption. Everything about it was so well done. The casting and costumes and everything about Mihawk was just so utterly perfect. I will admit, though, that this is one of the places where I really miss manga/anime Luffy, and his much stronger conviction. To me, live action Luffy never quite shows off the 'or die trying' outlook that is so central to Luffy. He is a lot more uncertain and... naive about dreams. It's a choice they made to make his character more relatable and conflicted about leadership, I think. I also really missed Zoro ending his pledge with "Is that okay, King of the Pirates?!" I say "missed" but I watched the live action first, haha. But the moment Zoro said that in the manga/anime, I loved it so much.

FlexiejayAnime

I don't think I've ever seen someone say this before!

Seryth

omg not me screaming Ghostbusters in sync with Flex

MaumaDark

I rarely like the anime Sanji. I love the live-action iteration.

Monsieur Sanji

All the OG Sanji haters in the comments :'(. I love Taz a lot and he is one of the best actors and characters on the show but still, can't say Sanji up to the point Flexie is at is unlikable in the anime.

Alex Hencher

I think Oda was right. Sometimes the pay off for romantic tension that never goes anywhere can be better then predictable outcomes. Its way more realistic, I've known lots of friends who have that kind of flirtatious relationship who wouldn't dream of acting on it. They would tell you it would be like getting involved with a family member.

Mirana

Steven John Ward was phenomenal as Mihawk. It felt like he leaped off the manga pages.

GenetheBook

We all know a dude that looks and acts like anime patty.... what a shame.

Christopher (Achro)

I appreciate how I get a little busy and I come back to so many new uploads for me to binge. You're the GOAT.

Thebigbadmajinbootydaddy

The outfits throughout the show are based off of cover story attire from the manga

juniorviana

Honestly, I only saw one other person point this out years back. But that really stuck with me and makes a lot of sense

Revanchist

Nah, pre-timeskip anime Sanji is just simply better, no shades to Taz. Only you think its weird, meanwhile anime Sanji is always in the top 5 beloved worldwide.

ichigo

If you don't think it's weird that Sanji constantly sexually harasses his friends and worse later on (spoilers) then don't reply to me because you aren't worth talking to.

Monsieur Sanji

"constantly sexually harasses" getting heart eyes, serving a drink and asking to be the prince of a woman he finds pretty is not sexual harassment, it's simping. I can only think of 2 (spoilery) canon times that crossed a line but 99% of the times its simple heart eyes simping, NOT harassment.

ichigo

Not only are there many times after Water 7 where he's disgusting, many of which I can't say here because of spoilers (the fact you can only think of two if you're up to date is mind boggling) but theres also several instances up until now, not including that he only wants to be the "prince" of "beautiful" women and if they're ugly he doesn't treat them the same way as beautiful women. I'm also pretty sure you don't understand what sexual harassment is because something as simple as peeping on is harassment, not to mention constantly get in their face, trying to hug them etc. Hell, he's also the type of character that will sacrifice his crew and let himself be defeated like he did against Kalifa where he didn't even try to defend himself.

Monsieur Sanji

if a few attempted hugs are too much for a character in a fictional anime pirate world filled with murderers then stop watching One Piece, anime or fiction in general. Maybe learn to take a step back and realize most of it is just jokes, the same as when we see Robin snap a neck. She is murdering plenty of people there, so should we judge her by the same standards we do Sanji? (he may not be attracted to older ladies but he NEVER mistreats them or lets them get in harms way if he can help it, so I dunno what you’re smoking there) You’re really desperate to justify your dislike for the character. I can definitely agree he had a bad few arcs after the spoilery events we both know about but if you only see the same behavior before and after that point then you’re just intentionally looking for issues with the character, and also accept to ignore the message Oda made very clear about Sanji’s character and how the crew complement each other.

jinsinca

oooh neat the elephant fish easter egg is cute for a small moment brought to the live action

DevilWearsAdidas

As far as casting is concerned, they nailed Usopp probably the best out of all others. He's a very complex character and takes a lot of subtlety to accurately perform. I just can't emphasize how much better of a fit he is than literally everyone on the cast. Taz obviously did the most work to fit his role, mackenyu nailed the one-dimensional aspect of 'body guard with sword', nami nailed the distressed 'feel' to the character, and inaki nailed the absentminded puppy dog, but there's just so much more to usopp's character of a liar, but confident and sheepish, and a complete coward that's brilliant and always calculated. Cant wait for more from season 2 and then the release of season 3.
