I just finished watching Episode 7, and you’re already posting Episode 8. Thank you so much! The Yachi and Tsukishima mini-arcs are my favorites; I’m so glad you’re enjoying them!

How on Earth does this show nail characterization so well across so many characters??

Eric Eoff

Love all your reactions, especially Haikyuu I started playing volleyball watching this show when it came out and still play today, can’t wait to see you get to experience this amazing show!! P.S. this episode is called Illusionary Hero, vs Umbrella is EP 9

Avanah

i watching haikyuu like 20 times . now is 21th with ya reaction :"D

Duris

Hey hey hey! It's all about that one moment! - Thank you Bokuto! Thank you Nekomata sensei for bringing us to this training arc!

Avanah

yeee "that moment!" can't wait

The long awaited name drop for Fukurodani's Bokuto Kotaro. I mentioned last episode that Fukurodani means "Owl Valley." Well, the kanji characters for Bokuto literally mean "Tree Rabbit" but it actually means "Horned Owl" because of how its horns make it look like a rabbit. Kotaro means "Light First Son" and we've seen glimpses of his bright/fiery personality which we'll be graced with more of later on.

i lost count on how much i rewatch haikyuu, but i think this episode is the one that i watch the least, not because it is bad, but because it hurts so much

Vincent Huang

Love this episode so so much, the characterization and the storytelling, the metaphorical imageries (great juxtaposition) and the foreshadowing are all so great😭

I can't imagine how disheartening arriving at Karasuno would have been for Tsukki. He sees his brother, who he *idolizes*, be "replaced" by the Little Giant. Then, when he shows up to the same school, he not only ends up on a team with another "Little Giant" in Hinata, but he is also competing for the same position as him. I fully agree that things don't have to be the same for Tsukki as his brother, but I also totally understand Tsukki being like "Why try? I've already seen how this plays out."

Tsukki is the best, eu sempre prefiro a lua ao invés do sol

fahmi tammam

Tsukki actually means "a moon" in japanese name.

this episode has to be my favourite one from haikyuu (maybe bc i love yamaguchi sm and by extension tsukki too) and omg loves ur reaction to it!

This season is where I really started liking Tsukki more and more. Honestly there's no one in Haikyuu I don't like. The main reason he ticked me off was him antagonizing Kageyama about something that legit bothered him, and being so condescending to Hinata when they first met. Like if that were me, I'd also be like "tf is your problem bro" 😂 But he's gotten better since then. AND....you can really see why he feels specific resentment/fear/jealousy toward Hinata. Tsukki's brother, who was the ace in middle school, got beaten out by the Little Giant in highschool. (I love that you did recognize he was still on the team though, most reactors don't notice that and think he totally lied about being on the team in general. No, the team was too big at that time, those who weren't regulars or subs had to be in the stands.) Now Tsukki comes to Karosuno and meets another potential Little Giant, who's aiming for the title of ace, and who has that hunger, drive, and always goes 100%. It's like some cruel irony. I love how Yamaguchi brought this up directly too, and at the end Tsukki was silently challenging Hinata for the first time. The sun vs the moon, indeed. Huge shoutout to Yamaguchi too, it takes courage to stand up to your friends and call them out. I love how he's come into his own more, and even he and Hinata are becoming good friends now! "Once that moment arrives for you, that's when you'll be hooked on volleyball" Bokuto-san speaking BARS. Love you speaking on your experience at the end. PLEASE yap about it I love yap sessions 😂 Seeing athletes watch this show is probably my favorite thing, because it's so relatable in many different ways. I actually relate very heavily with Kenma's character, I did swimming since I was 10, for fun, but wasn't ever so serious about it that I was going to do more after highschool. But I gave it my all while I was doing it, for my own pride and accomplishment. I actually felt that "moment" and drive when I did music in college, because I was part of a team who was talented, hungry, and aimed for the top. And it feels so good to be part of something like that, it makes you want to be better.

I get so hyped for the next episode that I think I've watched ahead now like a dozen times, through the same episodes...and I have no regrets lol.

Alex Hencher

Tsukki saved yamaguchi from some bullies, but when Tsukki was being destroyed, yamaguchi stood up for him too. That is literally all dudes need to be best friends for life. Also, Kuro is a born captain, he makes friends with everyone, regardless of what team they're on. He's as competitive as the best, but at the same time he never stops nurturing and pushing those people under him, simply out of love for the game. His couch has to be so proud of him.

Alex Hencher

Tsukki made a comment, I think in the last episode, that Hinata is the sun, and shines brightly, or is the driving force. But Tsukki is the moon, and his job to hold down the fort when Hinata gets shifted to the back, or out of the rotation. That's still a key position to play, and its a way for Tsukki to be essential without being the ace. Scoring points is arguably the most important thing, but you also need to stop points from being scored on you.

jinsinca

Gymnasium 1 is just a bunch of sharks LOL. whaddya mean 3 for 3 oh ya oh ya when tsukki walks in

hellog

It’s so sweet that we know tsukki had his heartbreak with his older brother but part of him working to get past that is him reaching out to bokuto/kurro/akaashi who are his sports senpais like potential older brother/mentor figures 🥹🫶

This episode is where Bokuto became an awesome character for me

That Guy

Top 5 favorite scenes! bokuto speach gets me everytime

TheRealNemesis

"It is important to learn something by starting with the joy of doing it" is a sentence that fits very well here. Until now Tsukki was basically going through the motions in the club, because his past told him that it is better to stay isolated from the fun part of being in a team and being a player. I don't think it was wrong but I think he realized that he is missing out on a big part of this sport by playing the way he does. I'm still in the middle of the episode and already cannot wait for the next one...

Avanah

Same same

SofiaM.

Great reaction as always. A thing a would like to add on the part when Tsukki says "how lame" after seeing his brother at the cheering section, is that in the manga it is implied that Tsukki was not saying it to his brother but to himself. He feels guilty, in a way, for putting pressure on his brother by idolizing him. He thinks (and I quote): "It's just a dumb club. But I got so wrapped up in it, like it was all my brother was. In the end, that made him feel like he had to lie to me".

ゆきYUKI

I think Yamaguchi’s line, “What else do you need besides pride?!” is a really famous scene and line in Japan 😘 Personally, this line has really stuck with me—both because of its meaning and the voice actor's performance.

DragonSinOfWrath

I havent really played a lot of sports or sunken time into training for something, but I can relate to "the moment" really well. The satisfaction when you have an image of how you want your body to move and do something, and the moment you achieve it right when it mattered is exhilarating.

Shin Gettinger

Tsukki's arc is one of my favorites in the show. Hinata's arc seems all skill based, he's never doubted he loves volleyball, his obstacles are all external so the show is compelling watching him overcome external adversity. Yamaguchi, Daichi, a lot of characters don't ever flinch. They simply continue to try their best, and the show is interesting because of how compelling their efforts are and how exciting the characters and scenes are framed (in my opinion!) Tsukki is one of the only characters who really has to overcome himself to get more out of volleyball. I think Kageyama is another great example, and I think it's interesting how they had similar trauma (losing connections formed through volleyball because someone didn't meet their expectations) and took it in opposite directions. Kageyama just got more intense about volleyball and Tsukki tried his best to become indifferent. This show is so awesome 🤩

Mura_sakii_art

So to inform you, a LOT if not everyone that reacts to this episode thinks that his brother wasn't even on the team (even though he has the team jacket on the entire time) all because he was on the bleachers lol at this point with the little giant karasuno was huge so ofc they have players off court

Brendan

"Go spend your life in front of a mirror" holy FUCK, what a line!

Neko 🐈

I'm always so confused by how many people don't understand this. It's common at schools with strong sports teams. There are starters, the subs/bench, and then the rest of the team. They all practice together and the main roster is updated periodically throughout the season. Akiteru is definitely on the team.

FlexiejayAnime

Huh - am I like the only one then that didn't think that? haha Just wondering why you brought this up.

Mura_sakii_art

I've seen countless of reactors go "omg he's not even on the team?" When they see him cheering 😭

Crimson

I don't think he should be that disheartening. His brother was at Karasuno's peak. Tsukki was in Karasuno's "fallen" era. He is even the tallest in Karasuno's like it's the most prominent quality of his position.
