I was left with the same expression as you when i first saw this episode. The scene where Makima gets shot. The scene where everyone get shot while their eating. It's like everything went straight to hell in a matter of minutes. Aki was using his Cursed Sword against that guy. Wich why you saw a weird countdown. Didn't that imagery of the cursed sword remind you of the gates of Hell in Bleach? xD

Oof. Just a cursory introduction of a character and when they die it has such an impact. Himeno gave everything to save Aki, she was such a positive force it leaves a big void with her gone.
