Here is an early look at the cover art for book ten, coming late November.

Weird question new patreon here, why are all of the book covers very wrong? Like is it a style choice? Is there a reason he describes his cloak as a void then the next art it’s a radiant galaxy? Or am I just reading wrong? I love the series but I can’t get my head around the fact that all the cover art is factually wrong

The art is good but it doesn’t match the books one bit. I know people will be mad that I am expressing my opinion because I am not agreeing with them. This has nothing to do with the artist unless they read the book and decided this was a match to it. This is garbage if you are tryin to design a book cover that captures any scene in the book. Junk.

Firstly, I'd like to say that I do have favourites amongst the book covers, being the ones featuring Farrah and Dawn. I have framed or screen printed covers of books 5, 6 and the alt art for book 4 framed on my office wall as I really like these ones. For those interested, I'll go over how the book cover sausage is made for my series; I can speak for other authors. The cover art comes from the publisher and I've never had a direct interaction with the artist. I give descriptions of scenes that I think will work but he's never read the books so it's an artist's interpretation based in minimal information, zero story context and no direct interaction with me. I've passed along passages from the relevant scenes and answered questions passed along to me from the artist, but we've never had a sit down or a zoom chat or even directly exchanged emails. My publisher likes to be the go-between, and they're the ones publishing the book. The result of the process is a matter of artist interpretation, and that is where the elements that aren't book accurate come from. For this reason, I gravitate towards the ones where Jason is absent or minimised, with books five, six and eight being my favourites. I think Dawn and Farrah have been captured a bit better than Jason.

Yea the art is good I never said it wasn’t it just didn’t capture what I was imagining so it kinda through me for a loop a few times, but yes based on book it’s very bad.

The purpose of cover art is to sell the book. It does not need to be an accurate representation of the contents.

What you're saying about void really resonated with me. I've always thought since he's hiding in shadows and the pitch black familiar shade. Jason traveling through the dark and all he is often hiding, then popping out. Wouldn't make sense to be surprised by something hiding in a lava lamp, or disco ball of colour. I think people in the story have even commented on how it is like looking into nothing? Like nearly more nothing than a regular shadow, so much so that Jason had to color tone it to be less black? Nearly opposite to the void part, would be Jasons soul crest. According to the tattoo he got way back when, and Dawn's paintings. The crest seems to embody a galaxy feel? A sky speckled with stars, as depicted, seems wrong though. What seemed to be described back then was a nebula similar to the "Pillars of Creation", or "Mystic Mountain". Could the artist have gotten these mixed up somehow?

He's always been described as half Japanese half Australian. A "Banana" by his cousin ('yellow on the outside, white on the inside'). So he'd be somewhere between white and Asian complexion.

Shirt has already stated that that was an initial estimate, but he has exceeded this number already possibly by several books. He has a vision for the series irrespective of the number of books it requires to complete.

Glad to hear that. Just finished Cradle and it seems like the author went the procrustean route of chopping up the story to fit the book count. Like the entire abidan conflict the story was building up to from book 1 turned out to be almost entirely irrelevant to the main cast of characters.
