We're wanting to knock out a few anime movies. They will likely be Patreon exclusives because I've heard horror stories about anime reaction movies on YouTube. Positive side is that I can include more of the movies that I upload to Patreon.I'll likely keep it in the studio ghibli arena to slowly introduce Jen to that medium, but I'm open to other studio anime films. I was thinking of starting with the usual Spirited Away, but I'm not opposed to starting elsewhere. Let me know what you think!

"Howl's Moving Castle" a 2004 classic between classics.

Edward McEnderfer

Your Name. It's fairly approachable just like Ghibli. The director is on par with Ghibli and has fun twists halfway through his movies, and imo they are way prettier.

Alexander Ocean

To make a first good impression I think she might like “My neighbor Totoro”!!!

Timothy

I absolutely love spirited away. The Boy and the Heron is pretty good.

Lys

your name is a popular anime movie that is not studio ghibli but it’s got a similar feel

Thomas H

The secret world of arrietty is a good starting point in my opinion

Duck

Your Name is fantastic!

Josh Lugo

Your Name A Silent Voice I Want To Eat Your Pancreas Suzume Weathering With You...... just to name a few, but definitely the first 3 of these

Timothy

Oh yeah, Natalie Gold reacted to it. Or at least I think she did.

Timothy

I also need to watch that

Povenmire

Hi. Can you give any update on the DCAMU please? It’s been a long time since any update and a lot longer since the last upload. Thanks.

Nick O

This isn't really a movie suggestion, but rather a series. The series I recommend is Aggretsuko.

Eric Tanaka

Your Name in the original Japanese please 🙂

Yoshikage Kira

Ponyo is a really good one that’s pretty easy to enjoy

MonkeeyDthomas

A silent voice is probably one of the best anime movies ever made. Both you and Jen would love it!!!

TheFatmanBatman

A Silent Voice Your Name The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Weathering with You and since you guys played the first game, Halo Legends is Anime Film with different storylines with different animation stidio

xStxrKillerx

Your name or a silent voice. Both are great imo. Been a while since I’ve seen them but I think I remember your name being a more fun movie, whereas a silent voice is a bit more serious, while still having its lighthearted moments.

MESHA

A silent voice !

Rigbys Life of Gaming .

"Howls Moving Castle" "My neighbor Totoro" "The Boy and Heron" "Princess Mononoke" (personal favorite) "Spirited Away" I feel like Ghibli Studio movies are the best to start off with, there is just a certain charm with them.

MO

Redline is great. Good art interesting world and fun premise.

RealTimeNoob

Some good ones are A silent voice, Your Name, and Suzume

Kian Kavanagh

A silent voice and Your name are both incredible films and I think are a good gateway for more emotional themes in anime. With the Ghibli stuff I’d recommend the dub as they are good quality but for the 2 I mentioned you could go either way

Daaylen Watson

Your name, Then after that A Silent Voice

Eric Miller

I haven’t seen many folks react to The Animatrix.

Halfblood Fuko

It would be greaf if you guys watched Howls moving castle, Ghost in the shell and maybe even some pokemon movies i feel like they are very underrated even if they are for kids

I definitely recommend to start with Ghibli, it's the easiest way to get newcomers into anime especially through movies (I usually recommend Death Note for shows, if you can't get past first 3 episodes of Death Note anime probably isn't for you :P) Outside of the Ghibli arena, I agree with everyone saying Your name, Akira, and A silent voice. Finally, for other personal recommendations, I love the Makoto Shinkai works. Everyone says Your Name is the best, but Garden of Words is my personal favorite. Weathering with you is also amazing, along with 5 Centimeters per second and Suzume. And finally, since I haven't seen it posted yet at all: Grave of the Fireflies and I want to eat your pancreas are both soooooooooooo emotional. Edit: OH AND PERFECT BLUE. IT'LL MESS WITH YOU BUT IT'S SO GOOD.

I see people recommending English Dub for stuff. For Ghibli, I think it's fine. They usually get some pretty good VAs/Actors to do voiceover. However, for anything outside of Ghibli I definitely recommend the original Japanese. Plus, if you ever do a cut for youtube, you'll likely not get a lot of heat for Ghibli dubs, but for others you likely will.

Utkast

Ghibli has a lot of great ones, I think some might find some of the slice of life/coming of age stories a bit boring though, compared to for example Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle, and Nausicaä. Redline has amazing animation and is cheesy and over the top in the best way. Ghost in the Shell is one of my personal favourites, amazing ambience and interesting questions asked. Akira is a classic. Suzume and A silent voice are great modern coming of age stories. I would love some Satoshi Kon stuff like Paprika (Inspired Inception), Perfect Blue, or Millenium Actress. So if you just want one, Paprika! enjoy whatever you end up choosing!

Kabnoot

Princess Mononoke for sure.

Cory

the boy and the beast, i know for a fact u guys would love this movie and think jen would genuinely love it since there are like animal characters!

Robert

I love Porco Rosso and feel like it’s underappreciated. But Spirited Away is great. Same with Princess Mononoke. And do think Your Name is a solid anime film as well like everyone else is saying.

Ringhio8

Laputa: Castle in the sky

Jack Thompson

Your Name is a great one to start with.

Ninjapino

Grave of the Fireflies

ItsGari

Dark. Watched it recently, hated the vibe

BichaeldeAngelo

Don’t know if you’re still looking at comments on this but just wanted to say- it’s totally okay to watch the English dub of an animated or Ghibli film and I don’t think people would react like Squid Game With Squid Game the dub takes away from the experience because 1) the dub is complete trash for the first season, maybe the 2nd I have no clue 2) Live action is much more difficult because it’s so incredibly apparent the voices don’t move with the mouths or always have the same sense of emotion, to me it’s a vital part of the performance (whereas in animation you’re just hearing a different performance) I’ve watched my hero academia both dubbed and original and felt no difference, one punch man was the only anime I thought the dub was significantly worse. TLDR: WATCH THE DUB for Ghibli movies, they have amazing voice casts.

The Flying Swordsman

Studio Ghibli or Evangelion (The original series and End of Evangelion film)
