UPDATE: March mail rewards will not ship until end of April/early May. I will be out of the country for the first half of April and unable to fulfill physical rewards during that time. Digital rewards will be scheduled and posted like normal.

hello!  (βŒ’β–½βŒ’)β˜†

happy april everyone! this month I wanted to explore ways in which technology has influenced my aesthetic tastes as an artist. I'm a '90s baby, so the chunky desktop computers that were characteristic of the '90s and early 2000s were a big part of my experience with technology growing up. I have a lot of fondness for the designs of that period as well as the mecha-influenced characters that were popular in the manga and games I consumed as a kid. these pieces are a loving tribute to those moments in time and the ways in which they continue to inspire my artistic creations.

want to look through old postcards and stickers I designed? click here to check out the gallery of rewards from previous years (no longer available for purchase).

above: I have so many fun childhood memories associated with a desktop computer. it was a way for me to play games with friends, watch anime+read manga, find new music, and discover interests that I otherwise would've never come across. the internet was an entire new world filled with fascinating creations and I'll always be grateful for the myriad of subjects it introduced me to. I featured one of my favorite OCs, City Girl, in both pieces, because I think her associations with technology and memory are well-suited to the themes I want to convey. I included nostalgic artifacts that meant a lot to me growing up and even now still to create a comfortable space that felt plucked out of one of my many memories spent huddled in front of the computer, a portal to a parallel world filled with exciting treasures and discoveries.

and this month's sticker! the idea of making something Tetsuya Nomura-adjacent really got into my head and would not budge, so I set about translating his style into my own. I was fascinated with the impression of a heavy lineart style, borderline vector, that emphasized shape and shadow. I had a lot of fun coming up with character design elements that captured my interests in mecha and chunky technological accessories.

lets goo! Love the sitting pose! It really is the proper way to do work, I find myself sitting like that half the time. I relate to your experiences with early technology, although I was born in late 90's so most of my experience was with the early 2000s stuff! I remember my first computer being my dad's old one, big blocky white tower with a chunky monitor to match. :P I wasn't allowed to use the internet though so I had to download games off my dads newer pc to put on my own for a few years. Excited for these!!

I'm an 80s baby but most of my strongest memories radiate around my high school days in the mid to late 90s & the way the internet expanded my world. πŸŒŽπŸ’šπŸŒπŸ’šπŸŒ I was the advocate in my family for getting a PC & I literally wouldn't have one of my siblings had I not been so insistent! Thank you Vicki for another month of absolutely inspirational, gorgeous art & opening the floodgates into my distant memories... πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ¦°πŸŒŒπŸ’œ
