reference board

the board I built for this month's pieces. it's always fun looking back through what I gathered for inspiration. seeing the photos of sea creatures in there is particularly interesting. I remember I was fascinated by their bioluminescence and unique shapes and patterns. so much circular imagery as well, dots, circles within circles, eyes...

gesture sketching

some fun gesture sketches I did to get the hang of poses similar to what I was going for. I tried to learn the energy behind these dynamic poses, where the body bends and contracts, and how that translates to a feeling of openness and aliveness. done in my trusty midori a7 sketchbook, love this thang sm <3

the combination of all the practice! I always like to include notetaking during the sketching process to keep track of fun details I think of in the process. I've learned the hard way that they have a tendency to get lost in the ether of the mind otherwise. xD

 brushes

tried out the oil maxpack for the first time, because I really wanted to include more traditional texture in my art and immediately fell in love with this set. super intuitive right out the box, tons of texture, and really fun to play around with. it's always really exciting finding a new art supply that you enjoy using, like a jolt of fun for when your process starts to feel a lil stale. ^^
