painting isn't scary! (Patreon)

local woman is shocked by what she can do when she stops overthinking!
I've had such a strong hankering for painting with acrylics lately, because I've been watching so many painters on youtube (sandi hester, annie fugere, art with antonio) and loving their process videos. I've been encouraging myself to paint more regularly, but more importantly, more casually. painting as a process tends to require more setup, idle time, and teardown than turning on my ipad or picking up a pencil. I've historically avoided it, because on some level I figured if I do all that and what I make isn't "good" or shareable, then it was time wasted (the capitalism really jumped out lol). but I just love the process of painting so much! I love mixing various reds, yellows, and blues to make new colors (vary rarely the exact same shade twice). I love the texture that naturally emerges from the interplay of brush strokes and paint. I love how the paint moves in unpredictable ways and forms new interesting shapes I couldn't have fully calculated. I love how alive paintings feel, possessing an unmistakable energy inherent from the movement of hands across a canvas. so much of what I've been trying to reverse-engineer through digital art (adding texture, color variation, sense of movement) comes through without force in painting. I find myself learning about new dimensions of art through painting and it's incredibly exciting.
