I love going to cafes to sit and draw while sipping and munching on something yummy. there are so many opportunities to people-watch and sketch a constantly changing environment as people come and go and food and drink is being prepared. the dynamism paired with the opportunity to stay awhile and observe often form the bedrock of my favorite pasttimes (I also love watching birds and staring at the ocean). it also encourages me to draw things I wouldn't usually think to, so it's a fun way to practice and test my drawing abilities.

I'd like to do more observational drawing moving forward, to get out more and build my comfort with drawing scenes that change, that are alive, rather than always learning from static images. it makes me feel excited about art and is a return to my general philosophy about art, which is that it's primarily a form of communication. I want it to be a way in which I can interact more with the world and other people and I look forward to finding creative ways to do that. ^.^
