finally got around to trying something out that I've wanted to do for a veeery long time: paper collage! I didn't really know what to expect going into it since it was my first time and I had so much fun! I love how freeing the entire process feels from painting the paper to cutting shapes out and gluing them together. it's such a forgiving and versatile craft and naturally produces unpredictable and interesting results, happy accidents as Bob Ross would say. :D I've always been enamored by the look of collage (hungry caterpillar fans rise up!!!) and it's been nice to continue branching out and exploring new mediums and ways of making art outside of illustration.

I've been painting a lot more lately, which is super exciting! I like to keep my setup fairly minimal so I can more or less jump into things and not feel overwhelmed by prep.
I used gouache to make my collage paper. I just started out by putting down a color I thought was pretty and built it out from there. I'm really loving greens and purples lately...!
didn't get any pictures of this, but I assembled the collage by cutting shapes out with scissors and gluing them together with a gluestick. :3 I'd like to get an xacto knife for future projects as the scissors were kinda clunky and awkward.
I simply love how the collage artwork turned out. it reminds me of picture books I read as a kid and it feels really special to make something that my younger self would've been delighted by~
