been figuring out how to make painting into a habit. this week, I've been experimenting with rhythm. since I often like to add texture to my paintings with things like color pencils and pastels, I have to wait for the paint to dry before I can begin layering. I'm learning that dedicating a day to painting -just painting-, giving it a day to dry, and doing all my fun textural additions the next/another day has made things easier and more straightforward. I would often try to do it all in one session/day and more often than not would slate painting for another day, because I felt too impatient to account for drying time. but this would mean that I rarely painted, which is sad, because I love to paint!!

I am continually learning from life that it's not what you do, it's how you do it. your art process can be as personal as you want it to be. I've found that accommodating for my habits and propensities, instead of trying to eliminate them, generally works out better. it's worth it to figure out how to do things in a way that works with, not against me. better to paint a little here and there than not at all. :]
