the June mood continues into August, in which I'm possessed by this irrepressible urge to MAKE things with my HANDS. I finished the top I was working on and it turned out sooo unbelievably cute! really nice for wearing lately on hot summer days thanks to the built-in ventilation, though I'm curious to see how it will layer for colder weather outfits...

while I was at the library, I came upon a crochet book filled with fun bunting patterns and figured I'd give it a go! this is easily the hardest crochet project I've made to date, so many different stitches and little parts to assemble! it was a lot of trusting the process for a long time, because before things really started to come together toward the end I just kept thinking "I can't tell if this is ugly or not". thankfully, it turned out great and now I've got a cute decoration that hangs above the entrance to my studio. ^.^

I wanted noren curtains to separate the living room from the rest of the home and figured I could just make them myself instead of buying. gotta love the crafter's audacity. I totally lucked out at the thrift store and found two test subjects, -cough-, pillowcases with lovely patterns and colors for $1.50. I cut them open, sewed them up, and voilá! curtains! :D

I wanted to make another curtain for my studio bookshelf and thrifted a bunch of fabric in the form of a king-sized duvet cover. it's actually so much fabric and I was a bit overwhelmed during the cutting process. thankfully, I had my assistant Kuma there to help me measure and keep morale high. :o)

as you can imagine, I had a ton of fabric left over after making the curtain and decided to make a skirt following this tutorial (which is great!). I learned soooo much making this skirt by essentially making mistake after mistake. turns out? the fabric you use is really important! for example, making a skirt out of a duvet cover will, in fact, look and feel like you are wearing a skirt made out of a duvet cover <3 making this was a great learning experience and I'd really like to try it again with lightweight fabric better suited for the job!

have you been making or tinkering with anything this summer? I'd love to know what sorts of projects you're up to! :D
