Hello loves! ₊·*◟(˶╹̆ꇴ╹̆˵)◜‧*・

How are you? I hope your day is going well so far~ So, I'm sure you already saw the title and yes in exactly one week I'll be leaving for Tokyo and staying there for ~2 weeks! I'm really excited to say the least and I wanted to share this journey with you because I have some fun things planned for this trip! Before I go on, I want to make clear that the posting schedule will continue as usual while I'm gone so you'll be able to enjoy sketchdumps and BTS content like normal! I've been working hard this month to prep all the content so nothing will change for you while I'm away. ^^

Ever since I read frannerd's travel journal/book About to Leave I knew I wanted to make something like that of my own. Reading her thoughts and musings and seeing her interpretations of the places she visited made it feel like I had gone there too! It left me with such a special impression and I want to produce something similar while in Tokyo. I'm really excited to document all my experiences while I travel and share all of that with you once I get back! I've even bought a brand new journal to use specifically for this trip and have started decorating it. xD

I don't know how this trip will change me and my art yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. And I want to thank you for your support here on Patreon, which has undoubtedly contributed in some way to this moment. I'm seriously so grateful and happy for this opportunity and I can't wait to enjoy my time there and make new things out of this journey to share with you! <3 I think it will be nothing but a wonderful experience for us all. ^^

If you have any recommendations for places to go in Tokyo I'd love to know! I've already got a date at the Pokemon Cafe which I'm beyond excited for, but the rest of the trip is pretty much open. :3c Hopefully I can experience the sakura blossoms while I'm there! Whatever happens, I'll do my best to enjoy it to the fullest. (´∀`)♡

I did the same thing back in November! Definitely recommend: bakeries, animal cafes, Meiji Shrine, finding small ramen shops, getting lost in Akiba and/or Otome Road, and eating EVERYTHING (vending machines!!).

Oh my goodness... This is awesome, Vicki!! You are going to have such a magical time! I lived in Japan for 1 year back in 2014 and adored it so much... I always miss my time there~ Can't wait to see where you go and what you do! Enjoy!! 💖⭐ (PS, I love your Bananya! 😆)

Oh my gosh! It's so great for you! I'm also going to Tokyo in May and I can't wait so I imagine that 1 week apart from it you must be solo excited ! Enjoy your trip as much as you can ❤️❤️❤️

Andy

aaaa thats awesome!! I had such a great time when I went there last year. If you're going to kyoto I would actually highly recommend visiting the manga museum and the cafe there (famous cartoonists and manga artists have left drawings on the walls there, it's super cool!)

Catallena

How cool!! I hope you have an amazing time! 😍😍

alicia esquibell

that’s so exciting!!!! 💘💗💖 i hope you have the best of times!!!!! seeing everything and eating all the good things 😍 the ghibli museum in mitaka is always highly recommended 🌱 can’t wait to see or hear about all the great things that happen for you in japan ❤️

Sarah

I'm so excited for you!! I cannot wait to hear about your travels when you are back! I've been to Japan a few times now and I can say that I come back differently and inspired each time. I can't say enough great things about that country from the small cultural differences, the amazing food and the friendliness of the people. One of my favorite things to do is hit up Ikebukuro and sit at the Milky Way café to people watch! Ikebukuro is specifically targeted to female fans/nerds and is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in Tokyo!

Spring is a great time to go!! Shinjuku park is a great place for Cherry blossom viewing, or if you want a day trip I suggest hitachi seaside park bc it’s absolutely beautiful and the famous baby blue flower fields are starting to bloom I think (along w/ daffodils and tulips). As for food I recommend Nadeshico sushi in Akihabara bc her entire restaurant is run by women which is very counter to what’s normal in Japan + her food looks and tastes amazing!! I hope you Have an amazing time!!

I went last year so wow where to begin, for starters visit as many pokemon centres as you can because each has unique enamel style pins for that location that you can collect and as a Pokemon fan I’m sure that’d be cool for you. The deer in Nara are wonderful to see but be wary if you feed them, they’re a bit scary when they know you have food! In Kyoto the Fushimi- Inari shrine is amazing (famous for the multitude of red Shinto gates up the mountain) and also the castle with the ‘nightingale floor’ was total worth a visit (look it up if you don’t know what it is because it’s magical). The ghibli museum is magnificent, particularly as an artist but you need to book in advance for that so if you haven’t it’s too late now unfortunately but very near it is a cat cafe called Temari No Ouchi which is absolutely adorable and feels so ghibli in spirit too, you really need to see pictures of it to see what I mean so image search that one! And of course so many wonderful art and stationery shops!!! 😌 have an amazing time ❤️

Have fun!! Japan is amazing and so much fun! Where did you get a copy to read Frannerd's book btw? :o

A small thing that I didn’t know and is good to know in advance too is that when you buy things you put the money in a little tray on the counter rather than hand it to the assistant, they will put your change in the tray too for you to collect 😊

Im going to Japan April 20 for 17 days! I hope you will post updates of places you will visit! I hope you have the time of your life you deserve it 💕💖

How exciting! I can’t wait to see updates from your trip 💕💕 I think you would love the Aoyama Flower Market Tea House! It is a beautiful cafe full of flowers and reminds me of a lot of the cozy witchy art you draw 😍 I also second other people’s suggestions about Ikebukuro - it’s a really cool place to go, and while Akihabara is fun to visit too, Ikebukuro has so much more geared toward women and it has a really lovely vibe. I’d suggest looking up a guide before you go because it’s not immediately obvious where everything is. I’m actually writing a Geek Girl’s Guide to Tokyo that covers things like themed cafes, geeky shops, and all things kawaii, so if you would like any further suggestions feel free to ask! The Pom Pom Purin cafe in Harajuku is particularly cute 🎀

I went last year and Akihabara stole my heart!!! So many neon lights, and nerdy merchandise. If you can get tickets to the Studio Ghibli museum I'd really recommend that too!

This is so exciting. I'm so happy for you!! I'm sorry but I'm not able to give you may recommendations in Tokyo. I've been living in Japan for over 10 years, but I live in the major city north of Tokyo called Sendai. When I do visit Tokyo, I love going to Akihabara for kebab shops or Shibuya for TexMex. If you wander north outside of Tokyo, I'd be happy to help you find some great hot springs, nature, food, drinks, and shopping.

SO EXCITED FOR U MY HEART IS BEATING SO FAST thinking about how much you’ll experience!!! Please go to the monster cafe to see lovely cyclops girlfriends for me 😭😭 Also that journal is such a cute idea!! Mel Stringer made something similar when she went to japan as well (I still have it hehe!) - I’m inspired to do the same thing when I travel next, wherever it may be!

Alyssa Trama

So jelly! Also SO EXCITING. I have NO idea what area of Japan you will be but if you have the chance, def try to make it to the Ghibli museum! I feel like that would be a really inspiring place to go! I had a frnd who also found Harajuku quiet inspiring too! <3 http://www.ghibli-museum.jp/en/

I have a trip there as well. One place I'm especially going to see is the Kawasaki Warehouse. It's a huge arcade that is also a replica of Kowloon Walled City and lots totally Cyberpunk
