watch the extended ad-free cut on Nebula

We're back! Apologies for the delay, this one should not have taken a full month to make. I'm trying to finally start increasing the pace of the videos so they're more of a "every three weeks" thing. We actually shot the next episode a couple days ago so that's progress!

Anyway, the idea for this video started with Emma, half-joking, suggesting I make a video about Taylor Swift as a way to hopefully reach a new audience. But then I took it too seriously because I've been really fascinated by Swift's foray into filmmaking over the past few years. Since her first feature film has been announced and is happening (but probably not until after the Eras Tour ends), there will inevitably be a whole wave of pieces analyzing her filmmaking work. So I decided "let's beat them all to the punch by at least a year."

Plus I love any opportunity to talk about music videos and the work of Joseph Kahn.

The Nebula extended cut has an extra section about Taylor Swift's acting career that comes at 16:26 if you want to see the full uncut thing.

Patrick! As a bit of validation for your hopes that this may reach a new audience: I mentioned this video was coming to my girlfriend (also a fan of yours, and we all met at the Brooklyn RRR viewing) when I got the watch list email. She immediately asked how she could send it out to all her Swifty groups and forums. I asked her to wait for it to go public, but rest assured you'll be getting some cross promotion!

Because the question has to be asked for the "Patrick replies": What is your beef with Wallace Shawn? Why did you choose him?

Don't overlook Tom Petty and his groundbreaking "You Got Lucky" video, that features a one minute non-musical opening. With a treatment written by the band themselves, It was one of the first, if not the first, mini-film MTV music videos with a visual narrative, as opposed to images of the band playing.
