The fact that they’re having this entire conversation and NOT STOPPING WHAT THEYRE DOING should help set up their entire hate/love dynamic lmao (I did introduce them as exes! They love each other but it’s NOT gonna be easy!)

Poor bb 😭😭 that would be torture ngl

Venus

i think i’d fall for someone crying their eyes out cause they can’t say they love me 🫣

Jen

Ouch.

Kiarra Clark

This one hurt ALOT 😭😭😭

ALuckyArtist

It’s here! If it doesn’t open in the app, you might have to try in a browser or the desktop site. Patreons app is notoriously bogus 😭

Bromhildr

The kicker though is that she doesn’t know that

ALuckyArtist

She doesn’t! She suspect something’s off but Lock can’t explicitly tell her what, AND the original script for this page almost had a line where they circumvented the ā€œdealā€ by her asking if they loved them and them nodding but they can’t even do that, so this is what I changed it to 🤭

Sakura Studios

That’s even more tortureeeee 😭😭

Venus

how dare you show me this information T-T </3

Real love is comforting your crying partner while being intimate. Many kisses and wiping away their tearsšŸ˜ā¤ļø

ALuckyArtist

I think she’s handling it very graciously, all things considered. She confessed and Lock is being indirect, she might suspect there’s a reason but don’t forget!! She doesn’t know what it is. We do, because we’re the readers, Dove doesn’t know what we know. If it were me, I wouldn’t have been as patient.

R4see_Pox

Sighh, the troubles of dramatic irony where we already know but the characters unfortunately dont šŸ’” Im excited to see where this goes but I have a nasty feeling that Lock’s lack of communication will eventually lead Dove to a blow up. 🄲

There is a special place in my heart for these characters and my heart breaks for them šŸ˜šŸ«‚šŸ’” Good job to you and Mags šŸ’š

Michelle Jones

No, no, I get where you're coming from, and in her own way, yes she's being patient. But if she, as a partner, cannot see how much this is tearing Lock up that they can't say the one thing they so clearly desperately want to, I... I don't think she's healthy for them. I understand, as a fae, words are literal power, and without saying it back they are creating a depth to her, but if Lock, who is so blatantly obsessively in love with her isn't enough because of this one thing? They'll never be enough. Seriously, she's talking above them proving their devotion while they're sobbing. I'm sorry, Caez, but my red flag radar is going off, and not just because I know they break up

ALuckyArtist

I’m afraid I’ve completely misrepresented her character, then. šŸ˜” Tbf, the comic hasn’t ended and I guess without context, we don’t know when/why they breakup so it probably seems like this is a catalyst, but it’s not. Dove accepts Lock’s devotion even if she’s cautious in this page, BECAUSE she sees that something is wrong and they’re not able to talk about it - but her not knowing that immediately and being blunt about it is more of an ā€œIf I were in this situation, I’d have an emotional responseā€ reaction than her being the type of character to hold it over Lock’s head (which she doesn’t, or else they wouldn’t still be together for as long as they are). I can see how it could come off as a red flag, because if she resents them for it or actually DOES treat their lack of confession as a debt they owed her, it could be bad. But again, comic’s not over. That line is supposed to parallel the debt Lock already owes their mother and while Her (mom) WILL hold them to it until she’s repayed, we inevitably see that Dove would NOT do that to Lock. Fae deals are tricky, and involving them in love can get nasty. That’s kind of the point of their whole relationship, they avoid the deal/transaction aspect that comes with being fae, and down the road, it’s Lock who tries to break that rule. Lock is very precious to Dove, she probably felt a bit rejected here too before realizing on her own that they’re completely in shambles over her.

Michelle Jones

You're right. I'm sorry for jumping the proverbial gun on judging Dove. I'm empathizing a little too hard with Lock's character, and projected. You've always been good at creating genuine relationships, and I should have given you the benefit of the doubt, especially since as you said the comic isn't over.

ALuckyArtist

To be fair, I want to be careful with making sure I’m not painting Mags’ characters in a bad light so I tend to over explain missing context. Lmao and there will be other times where we have a ship where the dynamic isn’t immediately good, which is a theme I like to explore in love and relationships because sometimes, things are rough or weird and I like to see how characters can overcome things together. I like stories where the love isn’t always perfect, but they find their way back to each other because it’s serious to them sobs It’s easier to sympathize with Lock in this comic because it IS their point of view, and I DO want y’all to feel bad for them, so I don’t fault you at all for that! It’s kinda like… the same reason people didn’t like Wiley being a widow that fell for Fia even though he’d been alone for 30 years, even though love can still happen after grief. Complicated dynamics are tricky to handle, and I’m not perfect at conveying things in scenes all the time, so I hope I can stick the landing with these two! But we will eventually have to watch them break up, I apologize in advance (but not too sorry because them getting back together is a very indulgent and messy lmao) I also know it takes a lot of trust to follow a story and a ship dynamic if there’s missing context or if the story isn’t easy to follow, so I hope I can continue to improve in that aspect. Thanks for the conversation, it’s good for me to reflect on how perspective plays a key role in how characters can be interpreted or represented!
