New Patreon Fees and Possible Changes (Patreon)
Content
About 570 (over 80%) of you generous folks pledge towards my work at the $1 level, of which I see something like $0.85 for each pledge, currently. Starting December 18, Patreon intends to charge you each about $1.38 so that would receive $0.95, which is an offensive 38% increase to your expenses for a 12% increase in my income. You can read the details here.
Obviously, this bodes horribly for this map creation machine, built out of your many $1-pledge-shaped bricks. This change threatens to chase the majority of you off, and you would be acting in good sense to leave.
As I see it now, we have two options going forward:
1. Stick to the per-map model
Shoulder the fees, and hope that those of you sticking around cover the droves that might leave. Continue on without the supporters (present and future) intimidated by the 38% hike. Perhaps Patreon will change their mind, and we can forget all this and go about catching up before the exodus?
2. Switch from our per-map model to a monthly model
-with a minimum pledge of $4 per month. This is comparable with a $1 per map pledge today, except the new fees will charge you $4.47/mo rather than a total of 4x$1.38/mo ($5.52, 15% less). I'm inclined towards this solution, though I know it will also have its cost.

I fully expect this overhaul to be a major speedbump whichever way we go, but I want to involve you all in the decision, and please rest assured that I will keep on making maps despite it.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to say again how much I appreciate you all, whether or not you stay or go, and I want to thank you for your part in letting me draw every day and earn money doing it!
Finally, I'm up late trying to fathom and communicate all this, so please would someone double check my maths...
