I spent all of yesterday putting together this video and, well, I just don't like it! I'm not going to publicly release it on YouTube, but I thought that some of you may enjoy it anyway.

It contains my thought process when I draw a QUICK battle map during game time at my table. It covers the drawing technique as well as the mental check list I use to make a tactically interesting battlefield.

It's not a terrible video, but it does suffer from horrible exposure and a bad case of I-need-another-coffee. Oh well, lessons learnt for next week's video!

I haven't seen the video yet (since I am at work right now), but the topic is really interesting. I regularly come up with encounters on the fly and having a toolset for some of the most prominent problems would be really helpful. One of my biggest problems is how to signify elevation.

The simple way to draw elevation was revelatory! More videos like these, please!

Will do! Perhaps I'll include both quick and detailed methods for all the topics I tackle.

I stumble over it in the video, but all elevation comes down to for me is a) defining the area that counts as difficult terrain and/or climb checks, and b) scattering a few rocks at the bottom to act as a visual cue. As for the actual pen work, I'm going to cover it soon!

I know this is a subtle distinction but I think it's worth sharing: I am most interested in understanding the why behind your techniques and then the quick way of implementing them. Just what you've done in this video where you explain in ~15-minutes how to draw up an interesting encounter to look pretty damn good in just a few minutes at the table. I'm less interested in the finer details of how you create your amazing, published maps because I'm not trying to be a "pro" battle map creator, just a more effective GM.

Love the video! Honestly getting your maps and watching your vids have helped me so much in making my own material that I cannot thank you enough!
