Just Another Josh

I love how Oguri was framed as the villain in this episode. We mostly followed Tamamo’s perspective, we got some of her backstory, and she’s the one getting the triumphant surge towards to lead. Oguri instead is this menacing aura at the back of the pack, a monster looming behind everyone. It’s a fun way to frame her as she’s basically abnormally powerful and that alone makes her a menace, even if she lacks their experience or technique.

Yup! I like how it’s about Oguri, but we still get different stories and perspectives from different umamusume.

Just Another Josh

That’s honestly been a strength of basically every Umamusume show. Because it’s based on the IRL results you can technically have literally any member of the cast winning races, so most of them get their individual moments to shine. There can be genuine shock upsets and there’s no guarantee the MC is going to win no matter how important the race is. Season 2 of the original anime is a fantastic example of this, with a lot of the side characters getting their own moments to shine while the MC struggles a bit.

Mikifune

We got introduced to the main running styles in Uma musume. Here is a brief description of each mentioned: 1. Front Runner - Called "Nige" in Japanese. Leads from the start and dictating the pace for the entire pack 2. Pace Chaser - Called "Senko". Stays behind the leaders (mid-pack); versatile, conserves energy and waits for a good position to overtake. 3. Late Surger - Called "Sashi". Sits mid-pack, using efficient stamina conservation to burst forward in the late race. This does require immense strength from the horse at it deals with breaking out of the pack. 4. End Closer - Called "Oikomi". Stays at the very back, relying on power to accelerate from mid race till the finish.
