I do actually like how the guy wasn’t even a bad person. Yes it probably wouldn’t have been THE most moral thing to sleep with a potential actress, considering the power dynamics there, but the guy did genuinely think she was going to consent and backed off immediately. Even listening to her afterwards and vent her frustrations. He appeared to genuinely like and respect her, even though he was absolutely pushing the limits. That being said, it also shows just how vulnerable people can be. He turned out to be a decent guy, but that’s obviously FAR from guaranteed. I feel like it’s just the right level of realism to address the real world problem. As a fictional show we get the relief that he’s a good enough guy to accept the no, but we still get the discomfort of seeing just how easily someone could get into this horrible scenario. It takes us right through everything that could go wrong and pulls back at the last possible second. And yeah, we have a setup for future drama but I’d argue a paparazzi scandal is FAR less emotionally intense to address than the alternative. We still get some tension and to address serious concerns in the industry, without having to make a beloved character actually experience something THAT traumatic.
