Nuragai’s the one criminal actually innocent. Her village were deemed rebels, but she was just a kid who knew absolutely nothing about that. Unbeknownst to her she led the samurai to her own village, after which they slaughtered everyone and threw her in jail as a fellow rebel. Tenza learned of this, recognized she was innocent, and was trying to get her the pardon before he died. Her perspective in this episode is so tragic. She feels responsibility for the death of her village, but then she also had to watch Tenza die (the one person who believed her innocence), she is forced into the care of Shion after his student dies, and now that she’s just as attached to him she is watching him about to die too. This is her third time watching people she cares about die in front of her and being unable to do anything about it, but this time she finally has an option to stop it. I also really like how her solution makes sense for her. She isn’t just magically more competent in a fight or anything, but she is able to transfer her Tao to restore some of his health. It makes sense for her character, but it also doesn’t instantly remove her flaw of being inexperienced in combat.

I'm caring too much for these side characters; this show is doing such a great job at it. Let's hope Gabi & Yuzuriha don't kick the bucket.
