I watched this movie before anything else Umamusume and it hooked me so hard. It’s just unreasonably hype. The best moment for me still has gotta be T.M. Opera O taking time mid race to literally give a pep talk to everyone else in order to make them race even harder. She’s so wonderfully arrogant and actually wants them all to race even harder just so that her victories seem even more impressive. So some quick fun fact’s about the two absolute beasts in this movie: Agnes and Opera O. Agnes was a potentially generational talent that won all his races by unreasonable gaps, but suffered a bowed tendon that ended his career after a mere 4 races. Despite that the mere potential of what he could have done basically left a shadow over every future race that year, with the audiences basically convinced none of the other horses would have beaten Tachyon. Opera O though is the exact opposite kind of legend. His overall record is already solid at 14 wins, 6 seconds, and 3 thirds out of a total 26 races, but his real legacy is the year 2000. In that year he went completely undefeated for 8 straight major wins, where he earned the title “Overlord of the Century’s End”. Jungle’s victory over Opera O wasn’t the one that ended the streak, but even then Opera O was the number one favorite for that race and was still EASILY considered the strongest horse in Japan at that point. His loss here was a bit of a shock, but he would only race once more after this and place his worst result ever, 5th. The cool thing for this movie though is that Manhattan Cafe actually won that final race, so two of our main characters were the last two to ever beat the Overlord. Also, after his death it was discovered that Opera O had a unique enlarged heart not unlike Secretariat, America’s most legendary racing horse. The Road to the Top OVAs actually cover a bit of Opera O’s earlier career alongside Narita Top Road, one of the girls seen frequently in this movie and a horse unfortunately cursed with being in the same generation as prime Opera O. So he usually placed second or third despite fantastic times.

Unfortunately Belno and Jo don't exist outside of Cingray. It and the Pretty Derby series share some horses but otherwise are different universes

tbf while it's probably still better to watch RTTT first other than giving some context on a couple characters it doesn't impact the story much at all

10/10 movie. If you’re interested in more Uma, Road to the Top is also great and has more about TM Opera O, the Overlord horse

In cingray there's some homages to IRL trainers I believe and the training groups the Umas are in relate more to IRL whereas Pretty Derby just kinda does what it wants in regards to those aspects. I'm no Japanese horse historian though so maybe there's more than I think

Alright. As promised here are the non spoiler fun facts for the movie. Now i won't go through everything as that's a bit too much but this will hopefully keep you interested in the Uma franchise further: 1. There are a plethora of cameos littered in this movie. Whether they be in game characters or those appearing in the main season. For my fellow uma players: The URA/Unity and Prix de la arc characters are shown here. 2. The movie showcases Agnes Tachyon's full career minus his debut. Agnes retired undefeated with a record of 4-0. He had to retire early due to a bow tendon injury he suffered which is shown in the movie. He is also known as the Phantom Triple Crown as people speculated that since he defeated Jungle Pocket and Manhattan Cafe (who won the remaining legs of the crown) previously, he would have bodied them easily and would have been the next triple crown. 3. The Jungle Pocket roar in the movie is based on IRL events. The roar took place during the 2001 Japanese Derby in where after crossing the finish line and entering the winners circle, Jungle pocket held his head high and started neighing loudly. The commentators in the movie did borrow lines from the actual race stating that Jungle Pocket is screaming his victory. 4. Manhattan Cafe is portrayed in the movie as always being sick and out of breath. This is a nod to the actual race horses condition. Despite coming from an award winning pedigree which held promise, Cafe was held back by his weak body often getting sick, loosing weight and being pulled out of races. It is also theorized that the imaginary friend she is chasing is his dad Sunday Silence (a Kentucky derby winner and one of the most successful breeding studs in Japan) 5. Lastly, TM Opera O is featured as the movies "Final Boss". Opera O was nicknamed the Overlord of the Centuries end for good reason. In the year 2000 Opera O would hold a record of 8-0 and also winning 5 G1 races which was a new record for the most G1 wins in a year. She also makes a cameo in Cinderella Grey during the fake out episode. The rule change Oguri cap spearheaded influenced Opera's career allowing him to participate in the classic races and make a legacy for himself.
