I would call it a musical anime but not an idol anime. At least not as far as the sub-genre itself goes. Mainly because it has more focus on saving the world than idol-ing.

Btw, Vivy has the same VA as Mjurran in Slime S2 and Juno in Beastars, Nikki in Dr. STONE, and Rio Futaba in Bunny Girl Senpai. Also, just an FYI, the person who wrote Re:Zero wrote this, but the animation studio is WIT Studio (AoT S1-3, Vinland Saga, The Great Pretender). So you got a wombo combo.
