Great messages from this episode. First dealing with some male mental health awareness with Kasamachi. Then the fact Emiri is insistant she doesn't like boys, hmmm. But the reveal of the struggles Asa's mom was going through was peak. The fact that every time she was mean to Makio was her projecting her own insecurities onto Makio. I think what happened based on ep 5 is that Asa's mom actually mellowed ot more after Asa was born, learning to be less judgemental and not shunning things that are not "the norm" as much, for the sake of Asa. But in the end we saw some aspect of her inner personality still present, when Asa said her mom would hate bands, and when Asa cut her hair and her mom was displeased with it. It's super sad too that the dissaproval and judging of her hair is one of the last memories Asa has of her mom too, closely before they died. Soundtrack during that whole part straight up sounded like a psychological thriller.

If you don't know already, Asa's name literally means morning/daybreak. That whole part about her mom saying she named her to signify something new and beautiful is extra impactful understanding that. Maybe to her, Asa was like a symbol of a change in her life, of accepting new things and accepting her own flaws. In that case, Asa was literally a new dawn for Minori to start a new part of her life. Sad thing is, with how Asa's dad was, I feel like Minori was incredibly emotionally isolated and didn't know how to feel, also having no one to share her feelings of this with. Knowing that makes it way more fucked up. If only she still had a relationship with Makio at this time, maybe they could have confided in each other, and even patch up their past issues. Maybe if they grew old they could have reconciled and talked about the old days. Too late now though.
