Since the question was asked, I watched most of the UC Gundam shows (the "main" timeline), with the exception of some oddball projects like the Igloo series, and the new Hathaway 2 movie since I'm waiting for it to be on streaming. AU I have watched Witch from Mercury, After War X, Turn A, 00, and Iron Blooded. My favorite Gundam series is War in the Pocket (sometimes referred to as 0080). It is part of the UC (aka the "main" timeline), but you don't really need to watch other UC Gundams to really understand this one. Plus it's only 6 episodes long and has amazing animation for a late 80s show.

Yeah alot of Gundam shows are in the 40+ episode range (usually around 50) since it kinda needs the time to do worldbuilding, characters, and pace plot developments without rushing things. Even though I love Witch from Mercury, that show plus the recent GQuuux suffered alot from being on the lower episode counts since they didn't have alot of time to dilly around.
