Content
Hello and welcome to a brand new Tips and tricks and thank you to all my Patreons that have supported me. Now as you can guess this is not a audio version mostly due that my laptop don't wanna play ball with recording. Soooooo.... this is just a temp version until things in my life get more sorted.
So for this one, we are going discuss on solving several problems that a writer can stumble into when it comes to writing.
First when it comes to writing, there's three parts of writing stories that many have problems, The title, the beginning and the end.
The title: One thing about a title that many find a problem and can get stumped by, is what to call it. Now for me, i find a good way on solving this issue is go by a few tactics. play on words, something to do with the story or theme. For example say you have a story of a reporter going somewhere they should, the title could be 'the scoop' or 'the last scoop' or 'Perils of a noisy reporter'. Using a theme can help, take example my "Error Code" series, the theme in that is very simple a error in a machine that causing the change, you can also use it if you have an item that is a mcguffin in the story you can call it after that. And finally play on words this is a little bit more tricky specially if you have no idea what the story is. if that's the case have a number or a very simple title until you have story sorted, see what is about to use a play on word.
The beginning: I like to think the beginning of a story is the entree of the story. Something for readers attention, interest and get them ready for the main course which is, well, the main story. Now if you have problems with starting a story here some very quick tricks on how to start.
Intro: Well know the 'Once upon a time' beginning to fairy tales. this is it, the star wars crawl is another way on a intro. is way to get introduce the world you are creature through narration of text. giving just enough to get an idea of the world the reader finds themselves in. You don't give too much or not enough.
Action: Action can be several things, it doesn't mean you start with a explosion. i mean you can, i an not gonna stop you. Action is when something is happening, something small like someone walking down the street, or going for a run to something big like that of a disaster. I find a good way is to have it about in the mids of the action. So using the running action for a example, you can have your main character at the start of a run or middle, could be a simple jog for exercise or they are running from something depending on the story you are trying to tell. they could be in the middle of a presentation. Action pretty much means, something is happening, whether it's at the start, in the middle or at the end is up to you.
Conversation: Conversation is well, talking. Ever had that moment where you stumble upon a conversation but it's half way through and leave to wonder, what the hell they are talking about? Well this is pretty much it. Starting with conversation, someone talking in mid or near the end is a quick way grab the attention of the ready.
"I can't believe he did that!"
"I know right, what an ass!"
Two sentences, of two people talking, you know they are talking about a guy and he did something that the two didn't like, now are they just complaining, or bad mouthing, or just being catty? Humans are curious creatures and just hearing that you kinda want to know more.
The ending: If the beginning is the entree, the ending is the desert. Do want them to be satisfied or wanting more? either way you want to leave a good taste in their mouths. Endings i find tricky, yet they are ways to end a story depending on the story.
Resolved or not resolved: A resolved ending is when the issue or the reason behind the story gets resolved, so for a TF the resolved ending is they change back, a not resolved ending is the opposite condition the change didn't revert and now they live in the change body/form. this usually a close story if its good or bad.
Continuation/open ended: As the saying goes, when one door closes another opens, an open ending is that for this part is done but they can be more in said world or character to explore. you leave an opening for maybe there's more to this and could return back when you want.
Cliff hanger: (Insert The Sopranos fade to black here) but all jokes aside, Cliff hangers is a reveal of a situation or confirmation on something that you just let it hang. it is a little bit cruel but you want "Oh come on! i want more" to the reader and not "Are you kidding me? this is bull!"
Writer's bloke: Ah yes the infamous writer's block, the bane of any writer. So you are stuck? and you cannot think out a way of your current situation. Well here's two tricks i do to get out, Does it work all the time? No! but it help!
1: go back couple pages or to the start and well read it, get in the mind set of the character, see how the story flows and the action or reactions they would do, sink or swim? fight or flight? left or right?
2: Ask your self one simple question; What is the worse thing to happen in the situation right now? What ever the answer is, do it!
Like i said, doesn't work all the time and sometimes just taking a step back can help as well but it can get you back into the swings of none the less.
So, there you go. Some tricks on dealing with some problems that can happen when writing, like anything you can take it and use it if you wish. This just a guide then anything else. As for now, and to the fore seeable future my tips and tricks are mostly likely going to be in written form. Now if you like this then me rambling on in audio form let me know. Until then thank you so much for your support and i will see you later on.
