Tip and tricks: Dealing with critic and haters

Hello once again to another tips and tricks. This time we are going over one thing that always comes when you present you craft to the world; Critics. It is part of the system and nothing can really be changed about it. And yes even I have to deal with it. So take it from someone who has been doing this for a long time, no matter what you are going to get it. But there’s one that is far worse, a hater. So in this I am going give you ways on dealing with critic and haters.

The difference: first thing is the difference between a hater and a critic, at the base of it is simple the tone. A critic expresses the pros and cons and will be more in the tone of advice.

“Great story, really good could use a few reworks though”

“This was kinda hard to read”

“Need to work on your grammar”

These examples that you might get, I should know I have received them myself. By the tone which I am well aware that in writing is hard to tell. You can see they are trying to help you out. Now some critic can be very harsh as well so keep that in mind.

A hater, as the name sake implies is far more more aggressive and negative, and try to make themselves look better then you.

“Wow you use sex but can say the word shit!”

“this sucks!”

“this is bad and you should feel bad!”

“We don’t want your trash here!”

Once again the difference, is the tone and to recognise the difference. While these example you may not see and or in a different way of written tone.

Responding: it’s one thing to put something that you worked but how do you respond. Take it from someone who has put out work that believe is the best yet it still gets the “Its great but…” comments. The answer, I take it in stride by acknowledging it. I am well aware of my faults and where I need to improve or if I miss something and they point it out, I correct it. That’s when it comes to critics, one thing you DO NOT DO is respond with aggression. Never respond with aggression. The same thing can be said about haters, for this one thing they want. So how do you deal with someone that comments with “You fucking suck”? They are two ways, Ignore them or respond with something positive. So let’s say you get comment, “You suck dick” DON’T respond with “like your mother last night!” but instead respond with “And your adorable”.

The golden rules: When you do post anything and get responses to it, there’s two golden rules that I personal keep in mind: Keep your ego in check and, You can’t please everybody. I have been doing this a good long time, and getting the amount of praise I have received I gotten myself an ego. Do I keep it in check? Sometimes! I am well aware of my limits to my work, but sometimes I do think that a certain work should’ve gotten more love than it did.

There’s a saying: By pleasing everybody you please no body. In this is the same thing, you get people who love it, those who like but find something wrong with it and those who just hate it. And that’s fine, just do what you can.

The worst critic: there’s one critic who is the worse, one that stand over all the others, that can make and break, and this critic for anything you put out that can do this… is in the reflection.

That saying you are your own worse critic, well there’s a fact to it. I cannot tell you how many times I scrap a project that I thought it was too stupid, or stories that I loved and post and got barely any views or those I did find stupid and it is loved. Seriously I cannot tell how many times I stand in my own way. The fact is we are own worst critic and there is no way quick way on solving. Only that of time.

So they you some simple tips, next month is going to be interesting as I am starting to run out of ideas on what to say for these tips and tricks but hopefully I can figure something out. Until then I see you next time!
