This mod is born form an idea of Marco Cantillo, I only did the technical part.

You can still enter any profession with this mod, but progressing in your chosen field will require a degree at some point.

I updated this one to make it easier to maintain (it did not require updating)  but it will likely go unsupported since I have a better idea and this isn't really realistic, Maxis vanilla system is far more realistic. It also makes the careers easier and not harder.

Does this mod still work? I started playing with carreers again and remembered I used to really like this one <3

Shana

Has there been any issues with this mod and a.deep.Indigo University mod. I keep getting an error message and I was told by one of the discords that it could be these two mods conflicting.

Kristel

This is AWESOME

Should I remove the career's need degree mod?

zer0_Mods_
>>29188246

I will surely consider all of this while I'll finally get my butt into reworking the IR mods collection.

Jace

The way how you're just taking to this pack with a scalpel and just fixing/adding so much to it. Im blown away

BlackPiano

Great! Do we have to remove the other Required degree mod or do we keep both so it affects career choices AND promotions?

SweetLilja

Thank you, so fun! And happy birthday 🎈🎊🎂😊🎂🎊🎈

Kimberly Whiteside

Happy belated Birthday! Your work is AMAZING and I pray God bless you with all your hearts desires! Thank you for all your hard work!

Phoebe Denton

This is absolutely bloody brilliant!! Why EA didn’t do this I’ll never understand. Happy birthday from a fan all the way in New Zealand ❤️🥂 🎈

Cause they are bound to their public, a lot of people playing the sims doesn't like realism or restrictions, there are players of all kinds so maxis tries to make everyone happy, when you try to make everyone happy usually you end making everyone unhappy as a general rule. Thanks!

Marco Cantillo

OMG. University is killing me so I just had a little time able to test the modifications I did with tuning files. I actually got the promotion restriction to work but never as you did since I would never knowhow to add something to the UI. You're awesome.

zer0_Mods_
>>29221320

It's not so hard as it seems. Thanks for the idea though, this more your mod than mine.

Jace

Love this mod but had an isssue. One of my sims who's in the style influencer career was told to get a degree to get promoted. I started on my degree but still went to work with her and she ended up getting promoted despite not finishing her degree. I thought you couldn't get promoted until you finished your degree with this particular mod in

zer0_Mods_

if you have all ep yes. The pets package restricts the ability to buy a clinic only to sims with a biology degree if you want that.

Sharonia

This sounds great. Do I install all of these files? I get a bit confused, Lol.

Ashley Michelle

Hi Zero do I need to delete Careers Bg-v2 and download another?

zer0_Mods_
>>29466286

yeah, delete the other mod, this one is a lot better even though it works a bit different (also going to allow you to cheat if you want to skip the degree requirements) also, I'm going to use this in my game so I'm going to support this.

zer0_Mods_
>>29490923

Nope, technically you only need the main. The add-on will only add another required on too of the first one. Also, the zip with the career for the Eps/GPs if you want them (the main only includes basegame careers)

Holly Andrews

Aw, that's a shame. I actually preferred the other version you did, where you can't get into certain careers without a degree. I already had that one downloaded and it's in my Mods folder. Will it break my game now as it's no longer supported? I really liked that idea and I'd still like to use the mod if possible!

zer0_Mods_
>>29510112

Right now no... It will if the careers get an update though. I have a tutorial under the tutorial tag and it's really easy to do. Beware though that this can stop townies too from getting careers, the other one doesn't (and is very less likely to break with patches, the things I tuned don't get updated as often as careers)

David Wallin

There seems to be a problem with the mixiology track... Had a sim get the Mixiology specialist certificate, but she still doesn't fulfill the "Get a degree" requirement for the career. Edit: Actually, never mind! I just had to restart the game and the requirement registred! Leaving the comment up if someone else run into the issue!

zer0_Mods_
>>29520627

That's strange in any case... Usually the requirement register right away when the hidden trait is given. Glad it worked anyway.

Kimikosoma

I'm a bit confused about the Military career. From what I saw, I 1st need a History of Physics degree in the 1st place, and depending on the path I choose, I gotta have either a History degree (makes sense) or a Psychology one for the second path ? Could you please indicate here the exact degrees required for the military career ? Thank you^^

zer0_Mods_
>>29665505

That's very probable that I confused psychology and physics. The requirements are what Maxis uses to careers jumps.

Nickolok

What a great idea. Definitely looking forward to trying this for a playthrough in the future.

SummerH

First off, i'd like to say i really like the idea of this mod. I'm definitely gonna give it a try. Sounds very interesting. Second off, i have to disagree with you about the education professor track. I think it is very important to have the psychology degree. If you think about it, it kinda makes sense for professors to understand young peoples minds. To be a good teacher, you need to have compassion for the individuals and understand the difference between the students. I have met so many teachers/professors that had zero understanding of my mental health for example. I have mental health problems and they just thought i didn't care about what i was doing and i suffered even more under that. And there it would have been great if they had had more education in the psychology part of education. So i must disagree with you here, that it doesn't make sense. To me, it makes perfect sense.

zer0_Mods_
>>30167123

You don't even know what you're disagreeing with though, clearly. What I don't agree with is the fact that they can only study to be professors IN psychology.

BarefootedMama

So when it says to get a degree do you have to quit your job to get the degree? I don't want the performance meter to go down in my job while attending uni to get the degree....

zer0_Mods_
>>30228091

Nope, you can work and attend uni at the same time... If you pile un PTO days and don't take too many classes all at once is not even so hard

Quinn

I really like the idea of the other mod and so I was wondering if this one will make it where it's required to have a certain degree for certain jobs too?

zer0_Mods_
>>30238400

Yup, but the requirement will come a bit later. You can get to level 5 in the business career for example, but it you want to go up then you need a degree.

Omar

I like this bit of realism. Thanks for the time and effort. Your knowledge is beyond my reach. Have you ever thought of a Mod that continues this general theme and make advanced degrees (masters and PHD) attainable rather than just extra degrees as currently in the game. Then professions such as Doctor, Lawyer, Scientist etc careers would need a advanced degree requirement? Just a idea.

zer0_Mods_
>>30807711

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.. like making distinguished degrees the "masters"

Aaliyah J

It seems to me that the mod for just careers requiring degrees isn't working or up to date anymore? I tried with a fresh game, reinstalled the correct XML injector but it doesn't work sadly

zer0_Mods_
>>30862364

the one for career requiring degree is unsupported by me, i'll only support this one. if someone wants to pick it up they're more than welcome.

SIERRA N JOINER

Can you make a Archaeology degree? And maybe make a career to go with it?

Anstett Sandra

Hello, my Sims received a fine art diploma but obtaining a diploma is not valid for an influencer career in Style

OnlyBroken

Hi, l Iove your University - Required Degree... but for promotions! mod. It is written that it has Polish translation, but it doesn't work/appear in the files, so I translated it myself. Could I send you translated STBL files? If so, where?

Chubby✿Usagi

Hi! I have translated your Required Degree For Promotions Mod into Chinese. I can send you the files if you would like to publish it? If so, lemme know where I can send it to you. TY for the amazing mod! :3

zer0_Mods_
>>32810553

Send it via private message if you don't mind... Sometimes I lose the comments where the translations get posted.

Jackie Enders

I was getting a degree_tracker LE when I had this mod installed, when I removed this mod, the error went away O.o

Vuvubear

I cant buy a vet clinic with the c&d portion

Crimson FireCat

What happened to the 'required degrees for careers' files?? Or are you only leaving the promotions version up now?

zer0_Mods_
>>33969018

Yeah... the other one prevents townies from getting jobs too, the game's strict like this on that.

Caitlin H

Is there a way to start a career at level 4/5 if you have the assigned degree ? I know this already happens if u went to uni in the first place. So I mean for custom careers.

Scarlett Smith

Hello, thanks for the mod, but i faced the problem: my sim works in Politics; first time when was required he got Britechester history degree, it worked fine, but now it's the second time and he has to get Britchester history degree WITH HONORS for promotion. But the game doesn't allow him to go back for history anymore, cause he already has history degree. How should I solve this? Sorry for my English

zer0_Mods_
>>35593246

Yeah this... Is intended behavior for this mod. Sometimes in life... This can happen. You get stuck because you didn't give enough in school. You can use UI cheats to cheat the requirement though.

zer0_Mods_
>>34702185

Custom careers would need to be manually added into the main career tuning and I'm not going to do it. Though, I explained how to do it to make a personal mod somewhere in the comments.

Kisica

Will you add careers from Eco Lifetyle expansion?

Rrxanne Bvais

Hi! I was wondering if there was a way to go to university (without taking like 12 sims weeks) while still working? And do I need to redownload the files for the June patch?

zer0_Mods_
>>38368257

You should be able to do it.... It depends on how well you can manage time (this is actually the only strategical aspect I found in this game so far)

Millith

Hi! You mentioned artistic careers didn't need a degree because of talent, but I have a Sim in the painter career (level 6), and she is required a Fine Arts/Art History degree from Britchester. Is this an error or something I have missed? Thank you for your time (and your brilliant mods!) xx

zer0_Mods_
>>38411158

Painter requires a degree, yes. Actor, Athlete and criminal don't. Technically if you want to be serious about painting you need a degree (it's because of how maxis set up the career levels that I decided to include it)

CapriSim

Hi, I love this mod so thank you, Question, will this clash with Turbo careers also requiring venue changes mod? Zerbu said it will clash with any mod editing the base careers file. I'm hoping they can both work in tandem but I'm thinking they wont, can you confirm please? thanks.

zer0_Mods_
>>38578531

This only touches aspirations... I doubt Turbo Careers needs to do the same... actually, careers are not modified by this mod in any way.

Breezes B

Hi! Love this mod, thank you for making and sharing it! I'm a bit confused by something. I fully understand why sometimes one would need a degree with honors rather than a regular degree, but my sim had a degree with honors, and the mod would not accept it. I had to cheat to add a non-honors version of the degree for the mod to recognize my sim had the relevant degree. That seems a bit off to me? Unless the thinking behind it is that my sim is now *overqualified* to be a politician? Just curious, still a great mod either way; thank you!

Kimikosoma

Thank you for updating the mod to Ecolifestyle careers as well ! Have the FR strings changed, do they need an update too ? :)

KaruMy

Hello ! Can you update the mod for the new SE career please ? Thank you :) Edit : Communications degree is needed for the Supervisor Branch. Computer Science is needed for the Expert Branch, as far as I know.

zer0_Mods_
>>48519228

I haven't played SE yet... I didn't even know there were new careers, this pack interests me less than EL

niesje917

thank you for the update :)

AthenaVee

would shorter university mods have any problem with this mod?

zer0_Mods_
>>52815099

Nope. This doesn't touch university and it doesn't touch careers either. It works on aspiration levels. It will hardly ever need updating or cause conflicts with other mods.

Dylan W Rheuark

Hi! I'm really enjoying the mod, however, my sim is in the social media career. She got her drama degree(with honors I might add), but it is still not registering in her job tab that she has the required degree to promote to the next level :(

Cassius

I have a problem with this mod. My sim needs a "Mixology Specialization Certificate" to progress in her Mixology career. Looking on line, you seem to only be able to get this by sitting in on Mixology courses at the University or by getting it seemingly at random; however, my character has already maxed out her Mixology skill, and therefore cannot attend these classes anymore. Is there an option to "Apply for specialization certificate" I'm missing? Otherwise this feels like an oversight and I'll have to remove the mod for the time being to avoid being locked out of progress.

zer0_Mods_
>>56490846

Ending up locked out of progresses is exactly the sense of this mod, though... So I'd say you can safely remove it, not a mod for you clearly.

AshSims

Is this mod still supported?

KaleeEvans468

any chance we can get a separated version of this? So we can pick what careers we wanna include degrees for.

zer0_Mods_
>>74403859

We'll see, I'm not playing the game anymore but I have the plan of going through old mod to clean them up/add new features (slowly though)
