Apparently Steam has just allowed a 100% uncensored adult game on their platform, which means there is now a possibility of putting Kemo Coliseum on Steam!

Having putting a game on Steam before, I have to say that if this is possible, it would really help making updating and releasing patches for the game easier. Steam has a system that compare each game build and automatically make patches for you. The developer doesn't have to do much but creating many branches of their build and upload the game builds accordingly. The Steam application will deal with downloading patches and updating the game to the latest version automatically.

As you can see, this will save tremendously amount of time for me, as currently I have to make my own updating/patching system, handling and maintaining all of these by myself. Having to do this for two platforms makes it even more complicated.

Steam also allows us to make it easy to do a closed beta, so any $3+ supporters will be given a key that let them access the games before anybody else. Non-supporters can play the public version easily as well, since they'll get the game builds from a different branch. Other than that, I think it'll also be easier for us to manage future DLCs or mods in the future. This might require some refactoring to the code of the game but we can do this at the latter stage in the development. Right now I'm more interested in the maintaining the builds and patches of the game.

What do you think? Is there anyone who doesn't use Steam here? Would love to hear from you all!- Punipen

Sounds good to me. I'm not going to pretend to understand how coding/programming works but if it's easier for you guys I'd say go for it. It might even get you new eyes on the product since Steam has considerably more traffic generally speaking than Patreon does. Honestly not seeing a downside to this at all.

gloomie

I'm not too much of a fan of playing adult games on steam- I'm always thinking that the random strangers on my friend list will see what I'm playing, but if it makes it easier for you, go for it.

小教獸

What a GOOD news is!

kemocoliseum

This is true. I remember that Steam allows you to hide a game you own from public, but I'm not sure about the "currently playing" feature thing. I'll keep this in mind, thanks! - Punipen

Loui Albero

Suena a una gran idea 💡

Vitrified_Heart

I think having the game on Steam is a great idea. Hopefully Steam will have privacy options in the future to hide activity with adult games

Gorim Bear

My only problem with steam is the privacy I don’t one people seeing what I play 😩

KCrow

I don't mind it myself if it makes it easier for you

gloomie

There's always the option to go offline to play the game, it's not really a big obstacle all things considered. Plus, Steam would give you more visibility, and Kemocoliseum is an entertaining match-3 game outside of the adult content, you deserve the visibility.

Reaver

Sounds like a really good idea! It will cut your "maintenance" time down a ton.

kemocoliseum

It totally will! I don't have to keep all the builds and the diff between each build myself. Just upload a new build for each platform to Steam and the system automatically handle it for me. When I used it for my work I was like "Gosh, I wish I could use this for Kemo Coliseum" lol - Punipen

Soojimasu

If it helps you guys, I'm down for it! You guys work hard enough to get stuff released and I think Steam will be a useful platform to patch easier and even make the game itself more well known as it's quite the refined furry game compared to others.

Theris

This is a concern I have, too. The research I've done seems to suggest that "hiding" a game in Steam causes it to not appear alongside your other games in your library (and instead only appear if you explicitly choose to view hidden games); however, this does /not/ hide the fact that you own the game from /others/ ("hidden" games still show up if recently played, if their store page is viewed by an owner's friend, and in other circumstances through which the contents of a Steam's user's library might become viewable). If you come to find a way to hide the ownership of a Steam game from /others/, I would love to hear it.

Theris

Alternatively (particularly if I'm right to conclude that hiding game ownership from others on Steam is currently impossible), adding a toggle to disable explicit adult content might allow for the appropriate pretense for owning this kind of game on a more public account (and, as a side effect, make this game more accessible to those who might find it enjoyable if allowed to abstain from the porn).

Theris

Forgive me if I've asked this before, but are you in a position to use version control software (git, mercurial, bazaar, etc.) for Kemo Coliseum? Verson control greatly simplifies the management of source code revisions (and many options, including the ones I mentioned above, are both effective and free).

kemocoliseum

We have already been using git for Kemo Coliseum, but these tools deal with handling each revision of source codes and raw assets in the game for developers rather than handling binary diff/patch for the game build for the end user. - Punipen

Reit Zephyrox

I think its a wonderful idea! Much better for you, and in the future easier to other people to buy it :)

Firewolfe

Go for it, Steam needs more gay furry games. There's enough "OMFG BOOBS!!!" to last a lifetime on there XD

WakkaSeta

Might want to hold off on any possible plans just yet and see how things go with Steam's situation. You never know if this'll cause a big enough backlash (from the wrong people maybe, but still a big backlash) to force valve to reverse their decision.

SonicWolfe

The problem would be, what if one day steam decided to block or require heavy censorship for adult games in certain regions/countries such as China, Japan and Russia?

Solitary Hyena

I think this is a good idea! As long as it cuts time. However, SonicWolfe has a good point, i know some eastern countries eventually get ahold of these things and censor certain media in some way or another.

Drake

I think it would be like a win-win situation for both you and us. You mentioned the positive side of it above and that is clear. It would be much better for us too, because nowadays everyone has Steam at home, just like most of the furries so the downloading part would be much easier. The ideas you mentioned above the Steam codes, for those who pay you 3$ a month or more, would make it easier again. So, all in all, I can see no harm in it at all to try it. Of course we do not know what Steam is planning to do in the future about this "okay to upload +18 games on our software", but as long as they are willing to put Kemo Coliseum on their list, it's really worth a try. :3

Furlock O'Donnell

That's a fantastic bit of news! I love the idea! Hopefully everything goes well with it!

Reaver

Good news Dudedle they just allowed a all guy game called "Coming out on Top". So I am very confidant that Kemo Colesium will be approved; it's just about filling out the mature content survey.

Reaver

Just go offline when you are.

Reaver

Don't think that will happen, as adult games have already been approved. Big issues would arise if they did this.

Morphbeast

Steam has some problems and they could suddenly ban adult games all together or by region. I personally do not use steam and would likely not make an account just for a single game. I have to many accounts with too many things already. It could be beneficial for you though. Basically, all the stuff Maxx already said.

Mark

There's a risk factor, but I can definitely see why it would be help ease the process. Maybe see if there's other games on the same level in terms of adult content already there. Don't necessarily want to be the first to test the waters.

Suikey Shirasu

Steam needs more explicit homoerotic games. Nekojishi iirc is the most popular and we need more.

Orangebunny

When do you think you'll be putting it up on Steam?

kemocoliseum

Not anytime soon, since I want to focus on finishing the game first. I'll keep my eyes on the situation while working on the game. Submitting a game to Steam does take time and I don't want it to interrupt us at the moment. - Punipen

ZR

This was one of the first games I thought of when Valve announced they planned to do this back in June. I didn't know it actually provides useful tools too.

kemocoliseum

Thank you for your feedback! This is also my concern. I really don't want to tie everything to one platform like Steam, and while many people use Steam, there are people who don't use it and I really don't wanna force them to, if possible. - Punipen

kemocoliseum

@ThyBossMan Do you have a link to that announcement? I knew Coming out on Top was in Steam but they had to censor their images and altered the game a bit and let players download an uncensor patch outside of Steam. But if this is something new like no more uncensor/R18 patch technique, that this sounds like a great news! - Punipen

Viberum

i would love this to be on steam!!

ZR

I just made a second Steam account. Problem solved. You can even make a second Windows user name and shift-right click to launch Steam as another user, if you want to keep switching between the two easy.

kemocoliseum

True. This already happened to some games in some countries. I have no intention to tie our game completely to Steam though, so if that happens, I'll still host the latest builds myself, although it'll probably be updated less often until I can find a new platform. - Punipen

kemocoliseum

I'm definitely not going to do this any time soon, as we are focusing on finishing chapter 3 at the moment. Submitting a game to Steam is a time consuming process, and with the new adult content policy, I'm not sure how much time it will take and what kind of documents we need to prepare. However, I believe the possibility should be brought up early to see if people are ok with using a certain platform. I want to make delivering contents and updates to supporters smoother in the future, especially during chapter 4, 5 and 6. And if I can cut down this maintenance time, I can spend more time on making contents instead. - Punipen

Heulen den mond an

That is great having game on steam! It could be easier to get the update and the news.

gloomie

Coming Out On Top has been on Steam for ages. It's explicit, yeah, and very porny, but it also has a censored version which could be part of why it's there

kemocoliseum

@gloomie Exactly. It's a common practice among adult games on Steam ( clean or erotic contents in text only on Steam + an uncensor patch outside of Steam). For a game still in development, having to make two separate contents or a patch to just change the contents add more workload to us. I'd rather avoid that route for now. - Punipen

Reaver

I get that, Just sending the link for reference. :3

Stan Bunmee

I use steam too and I think it great if KC put on steam ^ ^ and if you have a card badge and achievement I think it so cool .

Reineke

I don’t know a lot about Steam, but as someone mentioned, I worry that Steam will also prohibit the games like Kemo Coliseum. However, if it comes to that, I hope that there will be the next Steam and that you can create the game comfortably.

Mogéréo ArcAngel

Steam is good for keeping games regardless your computer, easy update from the Steam client for all your installed games and that on hidden task (it's not fun to run a game you wanna play, find that there is an update and not be able to play it).
