The Dire Tribble

Thanks for sharing this video, Prof. I'm 43 and this is something I've been getting more cognizant of each year. I'm sorry you're going through this but glad you are doing what's necessary and it's a good reminder for myself to get checked.

GM James

Hi Professor, I just wanted to say thank you for this incredible video. I know it's often hard to share, especially vulnerable and personal stuff like this, but this is another great example of what a stand up person you are, using your platform to help people. I'm glad to hear you're feeling alright, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for your full and complete recovery. Enjoy your downtime, you've more than earned it!

Scott Spears

Bad news/good news scenario. You got a bad diagnosis but they caught it early. I am casting Superior Healing.

David P Ackerman

I truly wish you clear results on all your follow-up tests. I have many friends and family who have had to deal with the Big C, and it is never pleasant and always scary. I look forward to many more years of your gaming insights and Deathbringer's bad jokes. Thank you for sharing.

JOSEPH ALKHAZRAJI

My father had Prostate Cancer and they caught it super early. As a result, it's something I watch like a hawk. Thanks for sharing this.

Anthony Johnston

Thx for sharing. Hang in there PDM. Not sure what your faith is, but I'll pray for your health & complete recovery regardless. Sick Deathbringer on it & it'll be eradicated in short order.

Martin Thomas

Thank you so much for sharing this very personal news. Your words are very eloquent, especially regarding your students and your daughter. Wishing you all the best for a complete recovery.

Steven Sweet

I'm so glad they caught it early and the prognosis is good. As a 59 year old male I do get checked but every year it's a bit stressful. Really glad you're focusing on your health. Being healthy makes everything else in life better.

Smarting

Thank you for this video. I think it is appropiate and necessary and I hope, it will help a lot of people.

Yellahammer Tabletop Crafts

We are so thankful that you have a good prognosis! I know that it is a scary situation. We missed you at MythicCon, but glad you caught it in time and you will bounce back better than ever. I have two years left till I can retire from teaching and I am debating on whether to do it or stick it out for another 5 after that. Decisions, decisions. Thank you for sharing your story and we will keep you and your family in our prayers.

Filippo Bettoschi

Best wishes for a fast and complete recovery. Take care!

Tommy

That took guts and that's what you've always had. God bless and stay strong!

Randy Smith

Praying for complete healing.

MrGunn

Dear Professor: It is quite upsetting to hear this news. However, I am relieved to hear your treatment is going well. I really appreciated you thanking all the folks who helped and supported you, that was very kind. Bless your daughter for pushing to you care for your health. Glad to hear you are doing better now. Thanks again for being vulnerable and sharing your health status. Best, MrGunn

Russell Schiffbauer

B.R.

glad y'all caught it early, PDM. and i'm extra glad you're turning this into an opportunity to raise public health awareness. wishing you a long bright future.

JoePest

Thank you for sharing and thank God you seem to have caught it in time; as a man of a similar age, this hits home. Best of luck in getting back to full speed soon. Enjoy your time off.

Jeff Krus

Cancer sucks!!! You will defeat this professor!! We are here for you..

William Smith

Wishing you a speedy recovery. It’s encouraging to hear that it sounds like they took care of it.

Victor Ramirez

I wish you well and I hope for a recovery soon. My sister had it when she was 12. So I had a front row seat. hang in there and God bless. I'll make sure to pray for you.

Matthew Smiley

Thank you for sharing. I am so glad you caught it early. Earlier this year, I went and got a full work up. Just some high cholesterol. Everything else came back good. I’m currently going through a transition at home but after, I plan on going for a more detailed work up and prostate check up. Just turned 45 but want to be extra cautious.

Eric Mason

Humour: Dungeon Craft is brought to you this week by wholesale medical gloves and lubricant Serious: Very sorry to hear about what you've had to go through. I provided an ear years ago to a guy I would see at the dog park who was going through prostate cancer, treatment, removal, and finally aftermath. I haven't seen him in years, I hope due to him moving away or the passing of the dog. Talk to your friends and family, to help keep your spirits up. Good luck with your fitness journey. I had to clean up my diet too, 30 pounds down so far. The big thing to remember is you can always out eat your exercise unfortunately. Vegetables are our friends ;)

Steven Bogart

Thanks for sharing this news with your community and encouraging people to take care of themselves. Best wishes for good health and a smooth recovery. My father was in a similar situation and lived decades after treatment with no recurrence. I wish the same for you.

The Blind Bard

Thanks for sharing. I am so glad that your treatment has ended and I’m praying for a full recovery. I had a health scare too last October when my blood pressure was completely out of control and they thought something might be wrong with my kidneys. Fortunately, all the test didn’t turn up anything so I’m grateful but still dealing with the ramifications of that. Which includes a low salt diet. I used to eat pizza and burgers pretty regularly too because we game a lot, especially on weekends, but since I’ve switched my diet to mainly include fruits and vegetables and unsalted nuts, and since we’re not ordering out nearly as much as we used to, it’s help me lose weight when I combine it with at least a half an hour of exercise a day. I know a lifestyle change is really challenging and I still struggle with it but it sounds like you’ve got a great support system and it does get better.

Carl Dettlinger

Thanks for sharing. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and a long, healthy life.

Gavin the Mystic

Definitely worth sharing, thank you. All my best to your recovery and family.

William Watkins

Glad you seem to be on the other side of that scare sir. Good to hear you are faring well and doing things. I am 52 and had my colonoscopy already about 3 years ago, they did a screen and nothing, as well as I get a physical every year, nothing came up but the dreaded “elevated cholesterol” that I’m taking extra steps to make sure nothing else is heart threatening. Lost my mother to colon cancer, but that was 1978 and I’ve been taking steps to check over the last 7 years for things that shouldn’t be going on and keeping my mind at ease. Good for you sir, look forward to more DC and Tomb material, I am running a session on that module today!

Uipose

I am also a fairly private person, which is why it is always difficult for me to express my thoughts. In this case I think the situation warrants it. My best wishes for you. I hope that these side effects become bearable over time and in the end they are just a distant memory.

Bagel-Man

Praying for you Professor

Scott Mckay

I'm glad they caught it early. I'm praying you get an all-clear. It was very good of you to use it as a public health warning. I am also glad it reinvigorated the adventurer inside you. I only just got back from Rome. Ironically, it gave me so many game ideas, so there is that extra incentive. I don't recommend spending the holiday doing YouTube videos, but an "Adapt this for your game" series based on travels could do well.

Todd Sharp

Sharing this was the right thing to do. Bless your heart. Hopefully someone else will benefit. Nice to see you exhibiting that you care.

Máté Gergely Balogh

Thank you for sharing, professor! God bless you, and speedy recovery!

Tuska

God bless you sir. Never stop fighting the cancer.

Mordencai

Thank you for sharing, professor! All my best to your recovery, your family, and for a long, healthy life. Is Deathbringer up next for an exam?

Rod Thomson

A great PSA, and I'm glad you caught it early. Here's hoping the side effects of treatment fade soon.

Graham Kane

Thank you for this video. It takes courage to be open about illness and your message will help save lives. So glad to hear the prognosis is positive and good luck with the lifestyle changes, as a Type 2 Diabetic I know how difficult that can be! Oh and a couple of other points: 1) The Stones. That's drugs. 2) I'd hate to be the one who gives Deathbringer his prostate exam!

orrin white

I am very glad you shared this PDM, I am coming up on 50 myself and will take this advice to heart.

Dave Ciappio

Sorry to hear you’re going through all this, but my thoughts and prayers are with you

Chuck Thorin

Thanks for sharing and may you have speedy recovery. Won't go into my own sob story but I do have a doctor's appoint for the 12th.

Scott

Thank you for sharing, it takes a lot to publicly talk about health issues this serious. I hope the cancer is gone and your recovery (and return to the gaming table) is swift.

Justin Watson

Praying for you and your family.

Grendel

Professor, my very best to you and I will keep you in my prayers. Based on the information you have given, your prognosis sounds really really good. Prostate CA is very treatable and the earlier it is caught the much easier it will be. As a physician, I have had many patients who have beaten prostate cancer, and as a cancer survivor myself (different cancer, but still), it can take a lot out of you, even when it all goes well. Take care of yourself!

Craig Sutherland

I am so sorry to hear this Professor. It is very admirable of you to come out with this to us. It does sound like you have a lot of positive prognostic indicators. Take care of yourself however you need to, I will continue to be a patron of yours.

Chad Wilkerson

Love ya, Brother, and am praying for a speedy and full recovery. 👍🏻❤️

Jay

I dreaded thought it might be cancer as you were being a bit evasive in your videos. Never-the-less, will pray for a full recovery and provide whatever support needed as always. God bless.

Jeff Krus

Please take what the Professor has to says.. Go get your prostate checked. It is now lowered to 45 years of age and if there is a history of prostate cancer in your family you need to get it checked regularly. I went to get my physical 3 years ago he asked when my last one was and I told him I haven't done one. He looked at me and said I will be right back. 10 minutes later he walks in and the Dr said I called the Proctologist and you have an appointment in 2 weeks . Also get a colonoscopy done as well... Please take care and God seed!!!

Jeff Krus

Man that stuff you have to drink... akkk... but it does clean your colon..

SJBehindtheScreen

Yep, gotta keep things checked out. Best wishes for your health, Professor!

BrianV

Glad you are on the mend. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Happy to know you will still be providing your sage counsel!

samurguybri

I feel like the Stones have money to pay for the good drugs that keep you alive longer, nowadays.

samurguybri

I went to Rome for the fist time last year. Wow. I lost my damn mind there and in Pompeii!

Walter

You're fortunate to have caught it early. I have a friend who died of prostate cancer. He was diagnosed when it was at stage 4. He managed to hang on for about 6 years before finally passing. I hope you come out of this in remission. Take care.

Flowers

As a cancer survivor my prayers are with you

Chris Watkins

You're a class act, Professor, to share this personal info in the hopes that it might also help other prostate-equipped grognards. Thank you, and heal up quickly and fully!

Sid Stubbe

Praying for your complete recovery.

Steven Bogart

The doctor will probably want you to drink Golytely, which is awful. Ask if you can do the Miralax prep instead. It's much more palatable.

Lyle Stirk

Praying for you and your family Professor! Thank you for the advice, looks like I need to schedule a physical.

Brett

Wishing you all the best professor DM! Here's to a speedy recovery and many more years of great games for you and your family!

Alexander McKechnie

Prostate cancer is what got my great grandfather. Fortunately, they've come a long way since 1986. I'm hoping for the best, PDM!

Ruben Benes

My dad passed away in 2014 from a heart-attack. We had a really close relationship, and it's been a rough few years. It is very important to take care of your health so it's great for you to use your influence to bring light to this topic even though it might not be something that is "relevant" to everyone at this time. My dad never got to play ttrpgs with me, since I found the hobby in 2020 through an aquantance, but now that I've been GM'ing for four years, I can honestly say that he would have loved it. He loved "Lynvingen" (the original name for Batman in Norway, roughly translates to the Lightning Wing), Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and imprinted his love for geekdom into both me and my sister who now play Deathbringer, Dragonbane, Pathfinder and DnD (starwars 5e edt.) together. It breaks my heart thinking about all this joy that we've never been able to share with my dad, I just know that he would love sitting at my table and play these games with my sister and I, because that's the type of man he was. So thank you prof, for a very important video, that might not get the attention it truly deserves. Best wishes in your recovery, hopefully you'll roll nat 20 on your con-save :)

Scott Mckay

I WISH I had time for Pompeii it's on my list. I want to see Venice as well in a few years as Poland will be next (if I can afford it) then Dublin again.

Jeff Krus

I think Professor this is best and most important video you have ever done.

Larry Vieira

Thank you for the advice, I hope to play a game with you someday at a California convention :-) be sure and take your vitamin D!

Firstspear

You're a good man PDM. Sending positive thoughts to you and wishing you well. Cancer impacts every family at some point and your warnings to others to be checked are well appreciated. I am sure you will roll a nat 20 fighting this disease. We (and DB) are all pulling for you and your full recovery. I was surprised at the hot flashes! Keep up the work on recovery and enjoy the upcoming trips. Hopefully DungeonCraft will buy you those 1st class tix in the future. Peace on you and yours.

Chris Franklin

You got this man! Wishing all the best.

jnlsn family

I kinda figured when you announced you were visiting your daughter and son. Thank you for sharing and you will be in my prayers.

Kevin Ray

Praying for a full and speedy recovery, thank you for sharing this and hopefully inspiring others to take their own health more seriously.

Bryan Stephens

Prayers for you and your family. God bless your daughter. Thank you for sharing.

John Madak

I hope for a full recovery. I will include you in my prayers. Thanks for being a great dungeon professor!

Steven Fader

Sorry to hear PDM, but glad all your treatments are going well. I got diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease when I was 25 after "walking pneumonia" stuck around too long. Fully support your message that people should get checked out and keep up with your medical screenings. Good luck and may you roll a 20 on your recovery!

baldrage

Thanks for sharing. As everyone else has said, best wishes for a full and speedy recovery! I'm in your target demo and echo your appeal to get an annual physical that includes PSA and exam (pro tip: female doctors have smaller fingers, making the exam a bit less uncomfortable). Also, go ahead and get that colonoscopy, too!

NØKKEN_WAITS

The very best wishes to you and your family, Prof. This is the same stage my own father is at, and he is also recovering well. I hope Odin and Freya bless you both with speedy recovery so you can get back to doing whatever it is you're doing.

Odysseus

We are with you Professor! Keep the focus on your family and know that your gaming family appreciates you and wishes you a speedy recovery!

David R. Howard

Thank you for sharing this very personal information. I am praying for you and your family, my friend. God bless you. Stay strong. Stay focused. You’ve got this!

Kage Holman

I want to thank you for this video Prof. I will be 48 this month and a father and a Teacher as well, I have been putting off THAT exam as well. This is eye opening… With that part being said; You have earned those vacations, and should not feel bad for spending DC money for those things. As for that matter I insist you take my $10/a month and spend it in Ireland. Get us both a pint. Love ya Professor, I hope to roll dice with you some day.

Christopher Gauci

Hey Prof, I hope you feel better soon & the hot flushes get milder and stop as soon as possible. I had guessed it was prostate trouble that you had when you put out your last video on your health issue. I hoped I was wrong but as cancers go... It's the one I'd choose if I had to. My dad is passing through the same thing and despite me urging him to excercise he is reluctant to go, So good on you for your discipline. Your videos are so good natured and positive, even now your altruism moved me to tears as I watched the video. I know you have all the help and support you need but if I can help in anyway just let me know. Maybe you and your wife and family may want to visit Malta. I have a beautiful apartment with a sea view in Valletta the capital. You can be my guests. If you like history... You need to visit... Malta is special. Anyway just a thought. One day I'll visit the US and go to a convention. It's quiet the trip but you have convinced me that it would be worth it! Take care. Look out for yourself and get well soon! Stay healthy or healthful as you say :)

MelodicMethod

I appreciate your opening up to sound the warning. You've got a positive can-do/will-do attitude. That makes a HUGE difference in recovery. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to more wonderful gaming content (and the occasional health update). Enjoy your travels! (P.S. Good luck on deciding WHERE to go in Europe, so many choices :)

Jeff Krus

They are already have it at age 45 and my dr said it Will probably drop.to 40.. They are seeing younger and younger people getting these types of cancers plus if it runs on your family you need to get checked yearly.. They found spots on my liver and long story short it was fatty liver syndrome. Very bad eating habits..

Daniel Defazio

Thank you. I WILL visit Malta after I retire from teaching in 2 years. And I will take you up on your generous offer and run a game for you and your friends.

7DSystem

See the world before you can't. Don't wait. Go. Go every year, go everywhere. The world is a beautiful place you can't see on TV.

Matthew Cacy

Glad you are on the mend, and best of luck on remission. Sadly we don't get to decide when we check out of this world, but regular preventative maintenance/care goes a long way. Take care!
