Masterclass 6: Two Types of RPGs

This video is about My Movie

I am familiar with all the references you mentioned in this video and we are of the same mind regarding Narrative vs Simulation. I prefer a somewhat more narrative driven. My preferred game would be using your rules only with a 2d6 or 3d6 game mechanic. This is due to the probability bell curve. I’m looking forward to your next video regarding dice mechanics and believe you have seen the same matrix I’ve seen. Brilliant video.

Many of my "Pathfinder" type players love to min/max and find ways to "abuse" rules or just try out builds with multiclassing and feats. As their DM I was fine with that if they wanna do the research and know what they are doing. My 5E players don't care, they roll the dice tell me the number and look at me waiting for a response to what happens. I see both sides and have to cater to my players. I really liked your recommendation of XDM, it's greatly helped me find a target number and see what's really important in the overall situation rather than going rule crazy. Great video, look forward to more discussions.

Love the video! I was that interviewer, we'll do another one of these days!

I feel embarrassed that all of my comments are always praising you. It feels like I am either a plant or sycophant, you know I am not the former and I hope don't consider me the latter... Your stuff is just good! You touch on things that have been rolling around in my head that I am either conscious of, or that I after I hear you comment on it I think, "Oh yeah! That's what that was!" Anyway, I hope you and your family and friends are safe. We will all be through this soon enough!

thank you for going deeper into the explanation of the two types Professor. , This will assist me in my campaign development and game mechanics.

I loved how you mentioned Rolemaster; I actually used to play this! I hung out with a lot of engineers and scientists from White Sands Missile Range when I was in high school and this was their game of choice. I did find the use of charts a bit cumbersome at times but I always felt that the game was also very flexible in that regard. Thanks for the kind memories from the past...

Bbbut you didn't close with wishing that all my rolls be 20s. 'sniffle'. Awesome video, I think it distilled my thinking and my journey regarding roleplaying excatly. I have played, Chart...err I mean Rolemaster, AD&D, HarnMaster, Runequest, Traveller, StarFrontiers, Fate, CoC, and most recently D&D 5e, I never had as much DMing as I did playing AD&D. I am more a narativist than ever.
