I agree 100% that the foundation of 5E is really solid - d20 roll high, Advantage/Disadvantage, and there is something so dang elegant about proficiency dice instead of bonuses. Shame that wasn't the default rule.

5e is a great base, but I think the cultural side will lose them more paying fans than they gain. No set of rules will adjust that they are going to put the cultural/political issues front and center.
