Dude you are straight crazy! Make sure you get your break.

Justin Hughes

You’ve got your finger on the pulse! Don’t sacrifice family time though, hope you enjoy the Amish country!

Máté Gergely Balogh

Thank you! I was looking forward to your commentary - spot on, as always :) Have a great holiday!

Justin Hughes

Is that a new intro you’re showing off too? It’s cool but I miss Deathbringer! Your miniature sets and things were pretty spectacular in the old intro.

Andrew Johnson

So D&D with micro transactions great. ;(

Graham Kane

Spot on analysis I think! Again it looks like the WOTC are sticking with the “more rules = more options” approach. I’m liking the graphics of this intro, but I still think the mini shots and Deathbringer have to stay!

Karl

Thoughts: I’m a grognard, but this move puts D and D squarely in a box that I do not want to pay for. Just like everything else in life, our every turn, round, and segment is being monetized. If you think rolling for initiative takes you out of the mood, just wait - nothing stops a game more effectively than an effing pop-up ad. Enjoy!

Graham Kane

Have to say though the rumoured new change about monsters not being able to score crits is a terrible idea!

Karl

The more I think about it, the more I call this Episode “Revenge of the Fourth Edition.” I mean, this is a more perfect concept of what they wanted, right?

MrGunn

ROFLMAO! Ok, we carefully get ready to ambush the monster, *ping* Get discount tickets to the newest D&D XVIII movie from AMC Theaters! GAAAHHHHH!!! :D

Nick

So DnD is becoming an ap. Table top game is now competing with video games by becoming a worse version video games. I'll stick to OSR.

MrGunn

I am taking a wait and see approach, but personally I don't want to play on-line, I don't want to be micro-transactioned, the only thing of interest is a legit digital copy of the books, as opposed to my current method: Yeah sure, my digital copy is legit, I got it from a guy's trunk on 5th & Lex, said it was overstock off the truck. Thanks for the news and analysis PDM, your viewers and patrons appreciate it! Now go have fun in Amish country.

MrGunn

I heard DB was in trouble with HR for creating a hostile workplace... I mean a dungeon is a hostile place, how is that DB's fault! <8oD :D ;)

Microtransactions are a sure way to print money and or to kill an IP. The secret to ttrpg‘s is that they are virtually free2play.

Masterhit

Huzzah PDM! Keep sticking it to Bob World Builder!!! Deathbringer will have his due! ;)

Jeff Jones

Things like this are why I stick with Castles and Crusades.

NØKKEN_WAITS

As a big fan of theatre of the mind and minis as more of a “rough approximation” of the space, this makes me feel like it’s D&D meets the sims. A resounding “meh” from me.

samurguybri

and they seem to be taking crits away when you use sneak attack and some feats and abilities. I mean, it’s a 5 percent chance!!! Gotta leave some things up to chance or it’s just spreadsheet vrs spreadsheet.

samurguybri

It may use some micro transactions but will probably lean more on subscriptions and packs of buying digital with physical books. I bet one could create UDT in the unreal engine and just have a few other assets on hand for major terrain pieces in each scenario. Perhaps someone should get on that! Or someone could make it in Tabletop Simulator.

Garnett

I guess it all comes down to how much you enjoy playing D&D around a table vs. in front of a screen.

Rogue General Hunter (RGH)

A related Note: I just got an add from D&D Beyond for "Shadow of the Dragon Queen" Digital/Physical Book Bundle and it's 60 dollars! No discount for buying them together? So, Paper has become so cheap that it's practically free or PDF software has become so expensive that Hasbro has to pass the expense along to the customer... I don't think Hasbro/WOTC are looking as much at microtransactions as I think they have their eyes on macro-transactions.

Bryan Stephens

When covid struck I went to my local game store and bought adventure paths to help. I think this all makes sense for Hasbro. And, corporattiztion continues. And that ruins things.

samurguybri

One thing that they’ve done right and still offer is the OGL. That’s good for business and the community.
