Excited to watch this meta video PDM, keep up the great work. Keep up the clickbait.

Steven Fader

Great video, thanks professor! People just don't like when you attack their sacred cows, but miss the point that this channel is where the sacred cows go to slaughter, including WOTC. I like almost every video that comes out here and have never regretted my pledge.

Martin Thomas

Thanks, Professor! I watched *all* of your YT videos when they come out, regardless of topic, as I enjoy them all. As I've mentioned many times (I'm "Daddy Rolled A 1" on Twitter/Facebook/IG/YT), your videos are what helped me get past procrastinating and to start running a game for my daughter and her friends at the beginning of the pandemic lockdowns and which are still running nearly three years later! And thanks for this advice/information. I recently started a YouTube channel back in March, so it's only been two months. But in in that time, I've seen the exact thing you're talking about. My videos on the History of D&D and Early TTRPGs get the most views, whereas my reviews of independent old-school games and supplements (which I want to feature to help them get more attention) get far fewer views and comments. Someone told me that the algorithm is pushing the history videos based on response, so I'm becoming known as the "D&D history guy" and any videos *not* about that will be buried. The problem is, sooner or later, I'm going to run out of history content. Also, I never intended my channel to be focused on the history of D&D. I made my first video about the History of D&D Editions purely to put into context for 5E players what I mean when I say I'm running B/X or Moldvay Basic for my daughter's campaign. I found on Twitter that so many people had no idea what I was talking about, but never bothered to ask or look it up. They would just ignore my tweet because they thought it "wasn't for them." So I made the video to help explain it to them, and it exploded (well, it exploded for me, which means it has about half the views of your least popular video). Thanks again!

Carl Dettlinger

I, also, watch all your videos, both on Patreon and again on YouTube. I find the WOTC drama interesting but I prefer your DM advice and crafting videos. I understand why you have to work the YouTube algorithm and don't mind the industry news.

Carl Dettlinger

PS. Thanks to your reviews, I joined the Shadow Dark kickstarter and will probably do the same with Knave. I also purchased EZD6 and ICRPG on the strength of your opinion. You have not disappointed me. Thanks!

A Name Apart

Who is the Eric mentioned in the video?

Grendel

I'm sorry professor, your directions were quite clear, but my human weakness overcame my desire to respect your wishes. I watched this video and gosh darn it, I will continue to watch all of your videos!

MrGunn

@A Name Apart Erik Tenkar, he runs a web site, Tenkar’s Tavern and a YouTube channel of the same name; do a Google search, should get you the links. Erik does a lot of industry news, and has live streams, he often posts several times a day.

MrGunn

@Carl Dettlinger Yeah, sameses, I am drinking all the Kool-Aid and smoking all the crack. Just used Tax return money to order the BlackHack and EZD6 Quests, I have a problem 😭🤪🤣🤣🤣

Daniel Defazio

Cool. I have to check out your channel. Good news! The history of D&D is exhausted. Covering "Playing at the World" would take 5 years of daily videos. You have PLENTY of material, and I'm looking forward to it!

MrGunn

@Martin Thomas Neat I just watched your video on D&D and Skills, I liked and wrote a comment, great video, you did a terrific job on it!

MrGunn

@DungeonCraft. Interesting video, you know I am a fan boy and I am working on my stalker badge, LOL, I hope to earn it in Charlotte this year. 😬🤣🤣🤣 I love your YT and Patreon sites and your thoughts on game mechanics. I was debating over on the Harn site Lythia.com and referred to your crunch video and another one to support my points about streamlining HarnMaster. Keep up the great work, wishing you and yours all the best.

MrGunn

@Steven Fader Want cheese 🧀 with that holy burger 🍔 🐄🐄🤠

Andrew

That gaming club was amazing. I don't know how I missed some of these--they are definitely going to be worth watching.

Jay

Thanks for the tip. I will check out your channel later and comment. Gotta catch up on some YouTube Dungeon Craft as I watch it mainly on here. Have a good one.

Jay

Great video. I haven't been watching on YouTube. Just started a binge watch list to catch up and feed the algorithm.

Scott Spears

The Youtube algorithm is always tricky and you need to pay attention to it so you stay relavant but sometimes you just make what you want to make. It's not like a TV show where hundreds of people depend on the show for their jobs. Can't wait for "The Lost City." Hope to see you at Origins.

Brent Norton

Now…now…now. You did say you were going to destroy this channel. Lol. Keep up the great work and looking forward to The Lost City.

Frederic Schmitt

I watch *all* your YT videos too. Although I prefer system agnostic GM advice videos.

David Gatt

You sir are a gentleman. Keep doing whatever it is you do.

Drago Russo

I am soooo glad that I did NOT watch this video. Otherwise, I would have been forced to watch these videos that I had not seen on the Caves of Carnage. I am about to run a "HARD MODE" 5e version of the Keep on the Borderlands and I MUST watch these videos that I will not watch of course. Thanks again as I was looking on YouTube for them but I never thought to look here on Patreon.

BrianV

As always great video. Looking forward to the next version/update for Deathbringer. It is my main RPG system. I appreciate all your videos. Your videos are the bones of my DM structure, sprinkled in with a little Runehammer ICRPG Master Edition. Keep up the great work and I look forward to the next campaign. Some of my crew and I are planning to go to GenCon, hope to meet you there. Please post any information on your plans for Gencon (Seminars/games) would love to catch one. Cheers!

Brad F

I have to get better at watching your videos on YouTube, to better support your channel. ...and I love Hudson Hawk! :)

Brad F

Wait, you're watching YouTube while driving?!?

Graham Kane

Clickbait or not, I'll watch whatever content you put out there. I find it funny that the most vocal comments telling you what content to make and what not to make seem to come form people who don't even watch all your videos!

MrGunn

@Brad F I thought the same but I assumed Mrs PDM or his son was doing the actual driving.

MrGunn

@DungeonCraft PDM you tuned off comments on the YouTube, how do I anonymously inform you that: You Stink! 🙄🤪🤣🤣🤣 You are great keep up the fine work.

jnlsn family

I have watched all of your videos. Some of them thirty times. Some more. I like to play them in the background when I'm working out. Even though I've listened to most dozens of times, you'll say something that hits a little different and gives me an idea. I run to write it down and then get back to jazzercise.

jnlsn family

I always leave a comment, I thought it helped the algorithm? Is he expecting that much hate?

jnlsn family

I have a confession, I liked Hudson Hawk. Unrelated: Lady Hawk is pretty great too.

Martin Thomas

@DungeonCraft Thank you so much for your support and encouragement, Professor! I really appreciate it! @MrGunn I saw your comment and thank you so much for watching and commenting. Cheers! @Jay Thank you! I hope you enjoy the videos when you get a chance to check them out.

Martin Thomas

Great minds think alike! I, too, purchased Index Card RPG, Terror in the Streets, Mork Borg, the Professor's own Frankenstein adventure, and contributed to the Knave 2E Kickstarter based on the Professor's reviews! I've got the Lazy DM stuff on a wish list for later.

Keith

Okay so without watching the video, what's next? Are you switching to a newsletter format? (With, say, hard-hitting analyses of the financials of various gaming companies?)

Daniel Defazio

I am doing two seminars with ben Milton of Questing Beast, sponsored by Lurking Fears. I think they're on Friday.

Daniel Defazio

That was wacky. I did NOT turn off the comments. Youtube did that. Took me 30 minutes of work behind the scenes to undo what they did.

Richard White

Hmm..🤔 PDM is my favourite RPG content creator. His original tagline that made me interested in the channel was that it’s about playing ‘the ultimate game of D&D’ and the way he presents himself made him more relatable to me then a lot of other content creators out there. I’m relatively new to RPGs, so learning tricks and tips from an expert decades into their hobby was a helpful way to expedite my own learning curve. I’ve noticed now the tagline is no longer about playing the ultimate game of D&D, don’t recall exactly what it is now, but something about the ‘playing the best independent RPGs’? Anyway, my own personal views on the different topics: 1. WotC - not gonna lie.. I love the drama and I enjoy PDMs take. Even though this stuff is covered endlessly by many, many content creators since the OGL debacle. 2. Indie RPGs - I really don’t care for these video’s. I was on-board with PDMs Shadowdark recommendation and I backed the kickstarter. I’m getting my teeth cut on that game and enjoying it. I don’t have time or money to invest in any other RPGs, but I’ve already decided that if I do, Pathfinder 2e will be next on my list. So I really don’t care for these video’s. It doesn’t matter how cool lamentations of the flame princess looks, I just don’t have capacity for it and I don’t want another book on my shelf collecting dust. 3. Crafting - I love the look of crafting, but I don’t know anyone in-person who plays D&D. I’m relegated to playing digitally online, so this doesn’t really help me personally. I tend not to watch. 4. PDM adventure’s this is MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE content - getting inside the mind of PDM, understanding adventure design, having a chuckle watch him run his own games, I LOVED the reviled society campaign, and the caves of carnage were also BRILLIANT. I love the grim dark style of game that PDM runs. It’s really cool. I also appreciate these are the toughest content to make, and takes the longest time. So this stuff will always be limited. But I do remember the old days where PDM would talk about things like how to narrate games, or different player types, which can really help me as a DM to think about my own games critically. Thanks so much for sharing this content, PDM. I can’t think of any other type’s of video’s out there. Just sharing my own perspective in case it’s of any interest to anyone out there.

Daniel Defazio

Thank you for sharing. Personally, I find lots of value in hearing about other games and ethic mechanics. Even if I don't buy them, I am fascinated with the innovation from creators. The XP system for Black Sword Hack is fantastic--and I may steal bits of it for Deathbringer. I will be making DM Tips and more campaign content as fast as I can.

Richard White

Oh yeah - that’s definitely true. I appreciate when you introduce us to good new mechanics from other games. Like the ‘luck’ system which I now use, which I think was originally from DM Scotty, if I’m not mistaken. Yes, thank you for calling this out. Thanks for the response and keep up the good work!

Jay

Same...I have more games than I will ever play but they are great for miniatures, inspiration, and borrowing ideas and innovative game mechanics.

James C

Ever since I became a Patreon member, I too have been guilty of not visiting your YouTube channel. I should at the very least play the video and hit the like button. Need to get that algorithm bot to work overtime!

Ben Waters

I might as well add my $0.02. 1. WOTC Drama - not super interested in but I'll admit, I clicked the link on them 2. Indie rpg reviews - pretty interesting and I've definitly bought some of the things reviewed that I wouldn't have known about like Black Sword Hack, XDM and ICRPG. 3. RPG Theory - Things like Crunch slowing the game down and "You are not a story teller" are the gold content for me and the most interesting. 4. Crafting - probably what I watch the least of. I usually play online or I just print off art from the books and glue it to garbage cardboard. I just don't have the time for that amount of crafting. 5. Actual play / adventure content - I watch it but maybe not as quickly as the rest of the content. It's interesting but not what originally brought me to the channel.

MrGunn

@DungeonCraft Weird techno issues. Glad you got the YT comments turned on, as promised, I said; You Stink! :P ;) ~<8oD in the most loving way possible. Wishing you a speedy recovery from Covid sir!

Ian Butterworth

I watched your video about not watching your videos. Now I am totally confused.

Don Forsman

I think, by and large, you have a very wide range of topics regarding the ttrpg hobby.
