Thank you for sharing your thoughts PDM

Really good video PDM. I had no idea about this drama, and you did a great job explaining it, as well as why it’s pointless drama. Keep up the great work!

I saw Dungeons & Discourse's video - yours is much better. It's sad that this video is necessary, but once again it falls to PDM to educate the masses.

What do I think, I think I don't care. This is a swirl in a mouse toilet, does anyone really care? You take the time to track down the original angry poster who started this mess and I am sure you will find a lost fool in search of a village.

@Keith LOL Remember, technically incorrect is the worst kind of incorrect!

Seems like there is always gonna be a Karen out there bitching about something that they didn't create, don't own, and aren't the designated spokesman for. PDM has to be the calm voice of reason for those who just aren't capable of critical thinking and being fair and impartial while researching both sides of an issue and setting aside personal bias. This story shouldn't matter yet I can see that someone needs quell the drama.

As far as I know, John Harper even invites people to steal from him, if his work is acknowledged. And his games are too good not to steal from. I hacket a game named Lady Blackbird from John Harper. It is the only game I GM at the moment. And ist awesome. I am happy that Candela Obscura borrows from Blades in the Dark. More people will play Blades in the Dark in the end than without Candela Obscura.

It’s the typical online trope of people jumping in with both feet when they don’t know what they’re talking about. It’s as PDM said, they are ignorant of the history of games and game mechanics. I also think some of this is fuelled by 5E fanatics (note I use the word fanatics rather than players) who want to take a pop at CR as they will probably soon abandon 5E in the future.

As long as there’s acknowledgment, not to mention John Harper promotes CO, what’s the fuss? They didn’t steal copyrighted material. Is it perhaps a competitor who is behind all the drama? Corporate espionage? Sounds like a grand adventure to uncover the culprits and have Death Bringer wreak some justice. Lol

I watched Discourse's vid too. Thought it was good and like PDM's thoughts too. PDM is right much of the drama is based on ignorance. But I also think there was some expectation from a lot of people. There's a big announcement the CR is coming out with a new game. Then it comes out and it's heavily inspired by another game, many think that it's not "new". What I'm saying is that CR is famous, big-name operation and with that many had an expectation of something more "original". I watched about half the first episode. Quick and dirty review. Setting is OK. What I could see of the game mechanics? Meh. Rather play Eldritch Hack. :)

“What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.” I mean everything pretty much is a derivative of a previous work at this point. Just acknowledge those who inspired and influenced you to write your take on existing mechanics. All those critics should try to build their own mechanics and see if they can come up with something new. I won’t bother to wait.
